It will help some smaller European nations I guess.  They have a harder path to the WC than North American teams.

Not really.  Europe is only going from 13 to 16 teams.  Infantino pushed this as a way to appeal to the less represented confederations in the World Cup.  South America goes from 4.5 slots to 6.

The real changes are in Africa, which will increase from 5 to 9, and Asia, 4.5 to 8.5.  CONCACAF will go from 3.5 to 6.5 and Oceania will have a guaranteed place in the World Cup instead of a playoff.

The argument for more representation from the huge populations of Africa and Asia makes perfect sense.  Deviating from the perfect competition format does not.

I'd be so stoked if San Diego got an MLS team! Didn't think it was in the cards as any new soccer stadium would almost surely have to be built without taxpayer dollars. This investor group thinks they can do it. Soccer is big here, and I think an MLS team would do well.

"Without taxpayer dollars" does not mean without corporate welfare.  Some states and municipalities are willing to play along.  Some aren't.

MLS could really capitalize on a vacuum left by the Chargers, just like they did in Seattle after the Sonics moved.

Don't look now, but Leicester are only one point out of relegation and two points above last place.

And they have lost four in a row, so they're not trending in the right direction.

I expected a big drop off this season, but wow.
