QuoteAs part of the settlement, according to Yahoo Sports, the NCAA will offer $1 million to $2 million less per school in annual distributions for the next 10 years as part of damages owed to athletes for usage of their name, image and likeness before the NCAA made NIL payments legal in 2021.

Further, another part of the settlement will remove the NCAA's scholarship limits for each sport. For instance, Division I baseball teams are allowed 11.7 scholarships, which can be broken up and spread across the roster. By terms of the settlement, roster limits will be set for each sport, and schools will be able to offer as many scholarships as they'd like.

That means if the baseball roster max is set at 30, teams can offer 30 full scholarships. That's nearly a threefold increase in scholarship cost.

Schools won't be required to add scholarships and also don't have to use all of the $21 million marked for payments. But the implication is pretty obvious. Schools that have the resources to offer more scholarships will be more competitive than the ones that can't.

this will make the SEC stronger

Glad to hear the 11.7 is going away, but you have to wonder what the roster cap will be.

I like this for baseball where development is a big part of the sport.  Being able to have guys on scholarship while they develop as opposed to a quarter scholarship will be huge.  Also Vandy just lost a competitive advantage in baseball which may not relegate them to their usual place in all other major sports but it will hurt.

Big deal for baseball but expect Title 9 suits to follow.  We literally have to add what 19 more womens scholarships or kill 19 mens.

Gameday roster cap is 27 is it not so it'll have to be somewhere north of that unless they adopt the MLB roster limit of 25 regular season and expanded for postseason.  In that case they'd have to allow scholarships at that postseason number.

I was wondering if they might lower it to 20 or 24, because some of those guarantees will
have to be directed toward Title 9 sports also - and football and basketball are going to suck
the vast majority of those funds away - the only way I see to resolve that is to either have fewer
roster spots in men's sports, or up prices to help cover (which will absolutely happen anyway)

This will really help the big schools like arkansas.

Football should be taken out of the equation when it pertains to Title IX.

You very well may be correct...or...it may even usher in a golden era for college sports.

And of course...they do say, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

How ever it shakes out..big fish will likely continue dining on smaller fish.
I said...LSU has often been an overrated team.

That ignoramus Draconian Sanctions said..if we're overrated, why are we ranked higher than you are?

Wonder what/if any impact will be to "walk-on" programs?

I'm not sure it will be slow.
Baseball is simple, but never easy.

I actually think this will hurt us. We have cheap tuition and give in state to the entire southeast and Midwest practically. That's a big advantage in lowering the cost of coming to play for the Hogs relative to other schools like Bama. It will hurt Vandy more, but this will be a seismic change that definitely nullifies one of our recruiting advantages. We have established ourself as elite enough that as long as we can continue to get NIL we will be fine for the rest of DVH tenure but it does take away a slight advantage we currently have.

With that said, I am absolutely in favor of eliminating 11.7, to be sure.
