Alabama basketball: Tide officially signs guard Herb Jones

https://www.seccountry.com/alabama/alabama-basketball-tide-officially-signs-guard-herb-jones

Quote
Jones is a 3-star recruit in the 247Sports composite rankings, but a 4-star prospect on Rivals.com and in 247Sports individual rankings.

Outside of Jones, Reese and Smith, Alabama is in the running for two 5-star players.

Collin Sexton, a point guard from Pebblebrook (Ga.) High School), and John Petty (Huntsville, Ala.) have Alabama on their list of finalists.

Sexton is scheduled to announce his decision at 6 p.m. ET as a part of ESPNU’s basketball signing special.

Petty, a 6-foot-5 wingman, will also announce his decision on Thursday as well. Petty is the No. 1 player in the state...

Alabama basketball gets commitment from ESPN 5-star shooting guard John Petty

Quote
John Petty, a 5-star shooting guard from Mae Jemison High School (Huntsville, Ala.), according to ESPN’s rankings, announced his commitment to Alabama over Kentucky during halftime of his team’s game Thursday night. Petty becomes the second 5-star basketball recruit to choose Alabama on the day as point guard Collin Sexton announced he would play for the Tide earlier in the day.

It was a telling sign that Alabama was the favorite to land Petty after he canceled his official visit to Kentucky late last month on the same day he announced his commitment date.

Kentucky kept its red-hot recruiting run going Saturday night when 5-star point guard Quade Green announced he has signed with the Wildcats. That makes four top-50 pledges in the last 10 days for John Calipari, who entered the early signing period last week with zero commitments.

Green is “one of the most talented players in the country,” Scout.com national recruiting analyst Evan Daniels told SEC Country. “A very good passer with impressive vision, and he proved that by leading the (Nike) EYBL in assists. But he’s also a more-than-capable scorer that shoots well from mid-range out to three.”

Kentucky’s haul now includes (from Scout’s rankings): No. 14 P.J. Washington (power forward), No. 17 Nick Richards (center), No. 25 Green (point guard) and No. 46 Shai Alexander (combo guard). And the Wildcats are still waiting on spring decisions from No. 2 Mohamed Bamba (center), No. 7 Kevin Knox (small forward), No. 10 Hamidou Diallo (shooting guard), No. 17 Jarred Vanderbilt (power forward) and No. 22 Trae Young (point guard).

While Young was Kentucky’s earliest recruiting priority at that position, the addition of Green and Alexander “means no Trae Young,” Daniels said. “Quade and Trae were never going to go to the same school.”

Five Compelling Questions for the NCAA Late Signing Period http://www.zagsblog.com/2016/11/23/five-compelling-questions-ncaa-late-signing-period/

La Bamba

Quote
1-Where will Mohamed Bamba take his talents?

7-foot center from the Westtown (PA) School and the Public Service Announcement Cardinals is working with a list of seven schools: Duke, Kentucky, UConn, Michigan, Syracuse, Texas and Harvard. He has already taken unofficial visits to Harvard (Sept. 24) and Kentucky (Oct. 14), and an official to Michigan in early September.

Quade Green, Bamba’s PSA Cardinals, teammate told ZAGSBLOG he plans to recruit Bamba, and several others, to Kentucky. Meantime, Bamba has also been linked to Duke...

2. Will Hamidou Diallo go to the NBA or to college?

4. What does Trae Young do now?

With Quade Green’s commitment to Kentucky, they now have two guards in the Class of 2017 with Green and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, a 6-6 combo guard from Canada who plays at Hamilton Heights Christian (TN).

6-2 floor general from Norman (OK) North and MoKan Elite was believed to be focusing on Kentucky and Oklahoma, with Kansas and Oklahoma State among those also involved. With Green going to Kentucky, it remains unclear if they would take another point guard, or simply put all of their efforts into Diallo in terms of fortifying the backcourt. That could spell good news for Oklahoma...

Georgia hoops picks up a commitment from combo guard Teshaun Hightower

Quote
6-foot-5 combo guard at Baltimore's Mt. Zion Prep, announced he will continue his basketball career at Georgia. Before moving to Baltimore, Hightower attended high school at Collins Hill in Suwanee.

Hightower, considered a three-star prospect, chose the Bulldogs over La Salle and Western Kentucky.

He will be the third player in Georgia's recruiting class of 2017, joining four-star Rayshaun Hammonds and three-star Nicolas Claxton.

Georgia has now filled up the three scholarship spots that will be vacated when seniors J.J. Frazier, Kenny Paul Geno and Houston Kessler leave the team.
