SEC Knee Injury Update
« Reply #57 on: August 06, 2016, 10:23:06 am »

Georgia nose tackle John Atkins hyper-extended his knee earlier this week in practice, head coach Kirby Smart said.

Quote
Smart categorized Atkins as “day-to-day”, but indicated he will not practice this weekend.

“He’ll be back. But he’s out for a little while. That’s tough at a position that we’re already thin at,” Smart said.

Georgia is already set to be without defensive end Jonathan Ledbetter, who will be suspended at least the first two games of the season. Freshman defensive tackle Julian Rochester could also be suspended, depending on the outcome of the BB gun charges from the spring. And the team lost defensive end Chauncey Rivers in the spring, when he was dismissed after a third marijuana arrest.

Lauren Shute: Joshua Holsey ready to compete after ACL injury

Quote
Holsey suffered his second ACL tear last year in Auburn’s second game of the season against Jacksonville State. When the injury occurred, the defensive back did not know if a return to the football field was possible or warranted.

Now, he is taking reps at the corner and nickel positions in Auburn’s first week of preseason camp.

“I’m just happy to be out there running around. It’s just, it’s fun,” Holsey said after Auburn’s first practice in pads on Friday afternoon. “Sitting on the sidelines for so long, it gets frustrating. You kind of get down on yourself. You don’t really know if you can still do it.”

I'd say he has a very, very, very good chance, if he wants to seek another year. Not a lock, but pretty close.

Auburn redshirt freshman cornerback Jamel Dean is out indefinitely with a knee injury

Quote
He spent a semester at Ohio State in early 2015 before enrolling at Auburn, as the Buckeyes’ medically disqualified him because of a knee injury he had sustained in high school.

Dean joined Auburn later in the year after getting a positive medical review from team physician Dr. James Andrews.

Auburn freshman Jayvaughn Myers will undergo surgery on an injured knee Thursday and miss the remainder of the season

Quote
Tigers cornerback suffered the injury in practice last week, but was widely viewed as a redshirt candidate this season anyway...

Jayvaugh Myers signed with Auburn along with his brother, Nate Craig-Myers, and was rated as a 3-star recruit out of Pasco High School (Dade City, Fla.).

He was ranked as the nation’s No. 38 cornerback and the state of Florida’s No. 53 overall player...

Both linebacker Michael Scherer and defensive lineman Terry Beckner, Jr., have suffered torn ACLs.

The two Missouri players suffered the injuries in last Saturday’s loss to Middle Tennessee.

Scherer, a senior, was the team’s leading tackler through seven games, collecting 53 tackles.

This is Beckner’s second knee injury — this time occurring on the opposite leg.  The sophomore suffered a torn ACL and MCL against BYU last season on Nov. 14.

Hamilton was having himself quite a Saturday on Dec. 3.

Alabama's middle linebacker already had an interception in the first half of the SEC Championship Game with Florida. He returned it 40 yards and nearly scored a touchdown.

Things took a turn late in the first half. Seasons can end in an instant as Hamilton learned. He was dropping into coverage, giving chase to DeAndre Goolsby when the tight end cut back up field.

"I got stuck in the turf," Hamilton said Saturday in Tampa. "I knew right away."

It was his right foot that caught in the Georgia Dome's plastic grass. The rest of his body kept moving, a bad combo for the knee. It tore his ACL, ending a big season and turned the Montgomery product into a spectator for the playoff.

"It sucked," Hamilton said bluntly.

Vols lose another offensive tackle to season-ending surgery

Freshman offensive tackle K’Rojhn Calbert is the latest to go down.

Quote
Calbert will have season-ending surgery on the same left knee that was operated on his freshman and sophomore seasons at Warren Country High School in McMinnville, Tenn., a source told SEC Country late Wednesday night.

The source added that the injury was to Calbert’s ACL, but was not the result of a contact drill.
