It won't happen, if you mean Long being fired, as he should be.  Not gonna go down that way.   Long will find another job before 'long' and that will be the end of it.  If he doesn't get out soon, he risks his reputation ... what's the word?  Ah..'degrading' to the point that he can't find another gig.

So just curious about the logistics of replacing a head coach and the athletic director at the same time during the recruiting window between the end of the season and the end of January.  How would that work?  Somebody would need to hire a head coach and you wouldn't want it to be the guy who is on his way out the door.

Well, obviously , it shouldn’t take Long, I mean he is one of, if not , the top ADs in the country. I’m sure he’s been turning down “overtures” for years. Especially since he had that fantastic and gut wrenching press conference in April of 2012. I mean, who wouldn’t be clamoring to get him.
This should be easy for him. I’m sure his Alma Mater has already “ primed the pump” for his announcement.

Bert being gone is good news, but JL needs to be as far back in the woods as possible...
Seems like a good guy, but he is a bad fit for us as a coach.

JL deserves credit for ousting Hooty and the GOBN, but not much else and he may have thrown out some babies with the bathwater,

Today's non-news on JL's status and contract seems to be an invitation from the BOT to look for other jobs. If he gets the message, there wouldn't be a need to fire.

If he leaves, would Bert have the gall to NOT leave with a Hootyesque parting gift? I doubt it, it always looks better to potential employers to resign rather than be fired.

Go Bert Go! Kansas, KSU if Snyder retires, anywhere but here and Godspeed...

Long had nothing to do with Hootie's being ousted, happened while Broyles was still athletic director.

Yeah.  Exactly.  His best shot is to go to Auburn and tell them they can do whatever dirty crap they want, and he will pretend to be AD just so they can pretend to have 'Integrity.'

Just wanted to highlight what I think is an excellent point that's seldom heard. Breaking down the GOBN strangle-hold was necessary, but he may have gone a bit far with it. Time will tell I suppose when it comes time to hire the next HC.

Some will like it, some won't, the situation is fluid........

This is one of my favorites. Because it is completely meaningless.

I have a reliable source that told me that we have an agreement in principle with coach Peterson. Stoops coming as DC and urban meyers as OC. Apparently the entire freshmen class is transferring from LSU. ESPN is also going to broadcast exclusively from Fayetteville from here on out.

Situation is fluid though. So if it doesn't go down like that it's because y'all didn't give me enough internet love!

Yeah well, none of us know what wheels are already turning behind the scenes so I wouldn't jump to any conclusions at this point. Think they are going to get rid of an AD (or removing power from same) who would normally be in charge of such a search, without already having a pretty good idea of where they are headed with the search for a new HC? Probably a lot more going on behind the scenes than we know.

CBB is no surprise.  No action out of a 4 hour meeting probably means he was destined to be bought out from the get go this year if the BOT took no action to reverse that position by todays meeting. Today was just the last chance for Long not to be under orders to do the buy out.

Long is probably under pressure to manage the buyout and new hire under a spending cap or start getting his own resume in order before too long.

So if they fire CBB after the last regular season game and they fire Long with his contract rollover ( with cause I figure nothing but they better be willing to go to court over that) and a possible buyout of another Coach and the yearly salary....how much is that going to cost the university?

My understanding is that it won't cost the University anything, but the Razorback Foundation will be out a nickel or two.

If Bert's here to the end of the year then all of the decent available coaches will have already found new teams.  He needs to be gone at the end of the season, and the search committee needs to work fast.

If they release him, it will be immediately at the conclusion of the season. Their target will be to make a new hire by December, in order to allow the new regime to get settled prior to the Holidays. Afterward, they will have had an opportunity to evaluate recruits committed to the previous staff, and be prepared to not only hit the recruiting trail before February 5th, but hopefully had the chance to bring some recruits with them that they were recruiting at their previous school.

So just curious about the logistics of replacing a head coach and the athletic director at the same time during the recruiting window between the end of the season and the end of January.  How would that work?  Somebody would need to hire a head coach and you wouldn't want it to be the guy who is on his way out the door.

One recruiting class possibly being somewhat disrupted is no reason to keep a failed coach or an AD who can't be trusted with the best interests of the athletic department.  What's the worst that will happen?  We won't be very good for a couple of years?  Well...guess what?  We've already been through six years of that with the current regime.

Don't get me wrong.  I'm not suggesting a change shouldn't be made.  But it's one thing to believe a change should be made and another to believe that there is anyone up there capable of doing this right.  Our track record hasn't been too good in awhile.  But we'll see.  I'm curious how they might do it if the AD chair is vacant.

Which you can play the other side of that coin. ADs across the US will see we removed a highly respected AD.

Except the switch to Pepsi was for the whole campus I believe and not just the athletic department. That decision wasn't Long's. Besides when someone outbids someone else for a contract generally the highest bidder wins.

It would depend on what my contract allows, the unversity's airplane, or the Foundation's? We've had former coaches and AD's use the airplanes for trips to Georgia and elsewhere numerous times over the years, one would have to know the details, much like this alleged insurance snafu, details please.....

Exactly.  I would much rather have a smooth transition and a dismissal based on competency than (yet) another gossip filled "midnight" presser.  Its been a while since we were able to do that.

Next 2 games are losses.  CBB will not be able to get these kids off the mat for Mizzou.  But.  Does that Mizzou game really even matter?  I don't think we except a bowl bid at 5-7.  I don't think Long is out of the woods if he sticks with Bert he is gone.  Just pisses me off we will wait until Jan 1.

With our academic scores we are to low to be getting a 5-7 bowl invite.

$5 mil plus. We want be only school talking to his agent.

This overpaying under-experienced coaches is way overdone.  We really need to bring out head coach salary down to the comparable range that we are able to get...not try to make an up-and-comer the highest paid coach in the SEC.  We should only pay 5 million to someone who's proven himself in the SEC.  Period.  High annual salaries demand high buyouts that make us stuck with a coach that in a few years we won't want anymore.

2.5 million.

That  insurance policy, the buyout that wasn't deserved, and the switch to Pepsi may come back to haunt Jeffie

For the 1,638,872th time...Jeff Long had nothing to do with the Pepsi contract. ZERO. That was done at the University level. Coke offered a 2 year deal worth $2 million dollars. Pepsi offered 10 years for $20 Million. Which one would you take if you were the university trying to raise money?

I'm not defending Long and I want him gone, just get tired of the falsehoods of the Pepsi deal. Also, I hate Pepsi.

Much has been speculated about the difficultly of us hiring a coach with so many jobs potentially open. I predict that the number of open jobs will not hinder who we hire at all.

I've said many times, the pool of good/great coaches that could be had is as big as it has ever been.

What makes him so “Respected”?

The financial situation of the school, handling of CBP, and Chairing the Playoff Committee are three.

I am not saying keep him or fire him. I am only saying he is respected outside of Hogville.

No problem. They will know enough as to why that it shouldn't bother them. Besides maybe some of them actually don't like Long anyway. Highly respected AD's are no different than the jobs. They are replaceable.

Well someone thought that when Nolan was tired and the string of bad football coaches we have had. I’m pretty sure Hogville thought Fayetteville was the destination that any great coach would want.

Well when Nolan was retired JFB had Bill Self in his hip pocket until White told him no.  He had Tubbs in his pocket until White told him no.  BP called and called until someone finally answered the phone.

Hell BB wrote a love letter to get the job.

I don't think the option for good coaches will be limited.

John White burnt the BB program to ground by not allowing the hire of Self. Jeff long has been the slow burner left behind by White. We can get good coaches, good players and succeed. Arkansas is a sleeping giant (per Stoops). Long has helped keep us in an induced coma.

Well, looks like the text i got from my friend a few days back was right after all.     he text me again earlier this morning to tell me today.  but, i didnt quite feel like sharing since some of you like to haze anyone with any information. big bunch of jackholes some of you guys are...  but, there it is.  i am sure a lot of you are happy with what has transpired.  These other schools were trying to get the jumpstart on coaching search.  florida sure did, and UT.  but, hopefully, we'll be able to pick up some steam and find a good guy.   anyways.. onwards and upwards.. oh and I Told you so!  =-P
