Anyone vacationed there?  Ideas?  Going down for business in January might stay on for a few days.

We love Costa Rica; however, you missed the boat by about 15-20 years. Unfortunately, the secret is out and you now have busload of tourists from all over pouring into the sites that nobody use to know about. With that said, spend a couple of days in the "jungle" and then head to the beach.

Stay as little in San Jose as possible because it is dirty and dangerous.

Agree...not like it was 20 years ago but if you'll venture over to the Caribbean coast to the small stretch between Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo you'll still find places that are welcoming, laid back, and inviting. No high rises, no all inclusives, no chains, no huge resort hotels and almost no jackasses with fat bellies roached out demanding attention at every moment.
