"We've spoken about the competitive nature, and I think that's really, really big in today's world," Jones said. "Everyone gets into the whole 2-star, 3-star, 4-star, 5-star thing. The only 5-star that we even concern ourselves with is a 5-star heart.

"We want 5-star hearts and 5-star competitors."

And with that statement, a new Butch Jones catchphrase might have been born. Move over, "Champions of Life," it's time to make way for the "5-star hearts."

College football coaches like to say they don't care about star ratings in recruiting, but Tennessee's Butch Jones took that one step farther on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters a day after the Volunteers signed the No. 17 recruiting class in the country, Jones said he and his staff are looking for a particular "character profile." And he said so in a way that recalled his now-infamous "champions of life" comment late in the 2016 regular season.

"We've spoken about the competitive nature, and I think that's really, really big in today's world," Jones said, via 247 Sports. "Everyone gets into the whole two-star, three-star, four-star, five-star thing. The only five-star that we even concern ourselves with is a five-star heart.

"We want five-star hearts and five-star competitors."

In five recruiting seasons under Jones, Tennessee has signed classes ranked No. 17, 14, 4, 7 and 24 in the country.

Butch Jones' fifth recruiting class at Tennessee fits him perfectly, and not just because it gave him a chance to do his thing for a few hundred Tennessee fans at a Nissan Stadium event Thursday.

He's like a wind-up doll when he gets going on those talking points. Pull the string and ...

"We think it might be our most complete class."

"We wanted players who love football, not recruiting."

"The only five-star we even concern ourselves with is a five-star heart."

Jones may be gone before we can truly judge this class. If not, he'll probably need to thank it.
