FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Five players in double figures got the University of Arkansas out to a great start with a 97-53 win over Southeastern Louisiana in the 2015-16 season opener in Bud Walton Arena.

Jessica Jackson, Kelsey Brooks, Malica Monk, Khadijah West and Alecia Cooley were all in double figures as Arkansas' dominated the game from the opening tip. The win moves Arkansas to 20-0 all-time in season home openers and to 2-0 under head coach Jimmy Dykes. Jackson's 13 points and 10 rebounds is her first double double of the year and her 11th in her career.

Freshman Devin Cosper got the start at the point and scored the first basket of the game and the Razorbacks would never trail. Cooley finished with 15 points and nine rebounds followed by 13-point efforts from Jackson and West. It was Wests' first career double-figure scoring game. Brooks dropped in 11 points, had eight assists and five steals while Monk added 10 points for the Razorbacks.

Arkansas' 97 points ties an Elementary Day record and the Razorbacks grabbed an Elementary Day record 59 rebounds. The team's 59 boards and 48 bench points are the most in both categories under Dykes.

The Razorbacks shot 42.5 percent for the game, made seven three pointers and 16 free throws behind Cooley's 5-for-5 performance from the line.

FROM JIMMY DYKES
We had two goals today. First we wanted to win the game. Second, we hope that we inspired a young boy or girl to work hard, study hard and maybe play sports or be a cheerleader or in the band – to go to college. That is really important to us. We were very thankful for the more than 4,500 fans who came out and cheered us on today.

UP NEXT
The Razorbacks return to Bud Walton Arena hosting Sam Houston State at 2 p.m. Sunday.

My take on the game was

it was a win
Everyone got to play valued minutes
JJ: Had an All around game. Was a factor in the paint, Rebounding, a couple Asst. She was not a main focus just for scoring.
KB again showed leadership
Improvement from Game one to two as a team in FT. Rebounding, Running set plays, over all working with each other.
I think whom stood out to me today was DD West. I thought played a good 18 of her 20 min on the floor. Scoring and rebounding, Def. in the paint
K Swenson I thought should improvement of fight in the paint. Also showed her shooting range hitting a 3
MM Should her speed and quickness today. on a couple steels and breakaway to the hoop
The Guards took care of the ball better.
I like JD rotation of players and time played from starters to bench. Everyone was fresh no real big min. played by a few.

Now I'm not shinning the rainbow with no rain. This team still has a long way to go. Defiant area's needing improvement and some we will not see get expose until we get into greater competition. I think a couple players today just had bad games and that's going to happen. That's why we play the game to learn to grow as a team and BeArkansas

Both AC and DD West missed having a double double by one rebound.
MW still concerns me as she played the least of any of those who played only 13 minutes.

there were almost as many offensive rebounds as defensive rebounds, AC is a good rebounder, and a good offensive rebounder as is JJ, MW, and especially DD West is who had 6 offensive rebounds.

The competition has to be factored into the equation when evaluating today, but as I said earlier (and as some others have) I think the starters today are going to be the starters in conference play.  I think Jimmy said he likes playing MM and JD together...and as I said last game I think they have a chance to be among the best guard combos to every play here.

I continue to be impressed with all the freshmen...KS, BZ and Freeman all played well.  BZ is long and a very superior athlete.

DD West even went coast to coast once, or rather rebounded and lead the break, I dont think she handled the ball all the way, but I believe it was she who also scored at the other end...you wouldnt have seen that in the previous two years.

The box score can be found by going to the schedule and there you find it.  Sorry, I didnt see that Kevin had included the link above.

How about shot selection for the Freshman  because a couple of them had some low shooting %.   Jordan was 2 for 11.  Zimmerman was 2 for 8.  Was Jessica forcing it a little bit also with her 5 for 13 or is that what we get from her most nights.  Lots of shots with lots of points when she is in her groove.

Loved Jackson, West and Cooley rebounding numbers.  Was Wolff hurt?  Only 13 minutes, the lowest from the upper classmen and her stats numbers were low.

I finally found and watched the first half on SEC+ network last night and I can see the talent on this team.  We did not play particularly well because Jimmy tried all kinds of combinations and substitutions so the flow was not there but I thought the talent was.

Hopefully by January we will see a team that can finish in the top half of a very competitive SEC.

Go Ladies.
