Sonny Weems-Ronnie Brewer question

I remember going to No Little Rock to watch the state playoffs a few years ago.  I wanted to see Brewer play who was a Sr.  As I'm walking in the gym I see this guy steal the ball, drive the length of the court and make this spectacular turn around, Michael Jordanesque jam that is as good as any you have ever seen.  He then made a couple of long range shots.  I start asking around and I'm told its Clarence Weems. (Sonny)  I was almost positive that he was a Sr and I thought the Hogs need to get this guy.   I was then told his grades were bad.  I know Brewer would have been a Sr for us last year.  Seems like they should be the same relative yr.  Did he skip a yr of ball before going to JC? Redshirt at JC? Seems like there was something weird about his situation but I can't recall it.  (or was he just a Jr?)  Anybody know?
