Hey, who wouldn't want to spend an afternoon watching the ponies run at Fairmont Park? Not to mention capping off the day at the Casino Queen.
Ahhhh...good times.

Just as long as we were back across the bridge by sundown.

my face when a city in our state is named one of the best places to live and it sparks an argument

You know the reason why.

It all relates back to the GSD.

I'll throw in great schools...which you left off of your list.
30+ people per day move into NWA. One of the fastest growing areas in the country. Great place to live and work. Does it offer the things that a major metropolitan area does, no. But it also doesn't have the traffic, pollution, crime, high cost of living, and headaches of one either....thank goodness. But to each his own.
How many of those 30 people a day that move to NWA are African-American?

That's a good question. I couldn't find concrete stats but I found this article:

http://www.nwahomepage.com/news/fox-24/black-in-arkansas-the-state-of-african-americans-in-our-state/147194881

QuoteNORTHWEST ARKANSAS -- The report from 24/7 Wall Street ranks Arkansas 10th on the list of worst states for African Americans.

The December study focuses on poverty, incarceration and unemployment issues across the statewide.

Some NWA leaders aren't disputing the claim but say it doesn't ring true for the entire state.

"It is kind of hard in the Delta. What is it there for African Americans to do these days? They have to leave that area and maybe come to Northwest Arkansas because there are more opportunities here," said John L Colbert, Northwest Arkansas MLK Council member.

Colbert came to Northwest Arkansas 40 years ago as a student at the University of Arkansas, a time when racial tensions in the region were very real.

"When I first got here, it was unheard of us living in Rogers, Springdale, Bentonville, Prairie Grove," Colbert said.

But over the last four decades Northwest Arkansas has dramatically changed. Colbert is now a leader in our community and shapes the future of our children as the Fayetteville Public Schools associate superintendent. Colbert credits our local industry giants - Walmart, Tyson and JB Hunt - for creating opportunity for black Arkansans.

No. It isn't.

Can't answer that. But what does that matter? For those that choose to live in NWA, there are many opportunities that other areas cannot offer, regardless of race. Weak argument on your part. With the concentrated efforts of NWA employers to hire a more diverse workforce, the employment opportunities for any minority are great.

I'm gonna be honest & say I'm scared of the development of Fayetteville. It seems like the University has swallowed the city. Enrollment rates have grown so fast, you gotta wonder how sustainable it is & the kinds of effects it has on the culture & cost of living

You are comparing apple to oranges. While technically true, The Northwest Ark. MSA is approx. 535,000 which is more than the actual populations within the  KC & STL City limits. The same can be said for the Springfield-Branson MSA. However, the Kansas City "Metro area" is around 2.4 million and St. Louis "Metro" around 2.9 million. But I'll take living in NWA over KC or STL any day.

You're right, but that was more aimed as a response to the notion that NWA is rural country land.  Its not these days.

Winning tradition: not as of late

Proximity to home: depends - Fayetteville is isolated compared to our SEC counterparts but Dallas, Tulsa, and Little Rock are all within driving distance.

Playing time: dependent on position and need

Women: Like any major university we have beautiful women.

Fan base and support system (facilities, education, administration, support etc.): good to great.  Our fans hold the rope until it's cutting through our hands.  Our facilities are great and on par with the rest of the SEC.  Our academic center is top notch.

I wonder if we would ever try to play a neutral site game in Kansas City.  Perhaps play Iowa there.

QuoteBeing in a nice place, of course, is an asset for any city; after all, entrepreneurs and young families also like to live somewhere good times beckon. At the same time, some of these areas also benefit from a strong hospitality and second home market. Another critical advantage belongs to college towns which, by their very nature, usually offer more by way of arts, restaurants and entertainment than other places.

The highest ranked of these metro areas this year is Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers, AR-MO, which comes in sixth on our overall list. It enjoys the benefits of being home to the University of Arkansas as well as close to the Ozark Mountains, one of the premier recreation areas in middle America. Since 2010, employment in the metro area has jumped 19.6 percent, or 40,000 jobs, with a 4.7 percent expansion last year. Like other top small cities, the areas has enjoyed strong growth in construction and hospitality jobs, up 37.2 percent since 2010, but also professional and business services, which expanded 38.2 percent over the same time period.

QuoteMetro Profile: A Tale of Four Cities: Widespread Growth in Northwest Arkansas

https://www.stlouisfed.org/publications/regional-economist/january-2015/metro-profile

QuoteBetween 2015 and 2016, Northwest Arkansas added about 31 people per day, or an estimated 11,583 people, making it the 22nd fastest growing area out of the 382 areas in the country, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

The number of people living in the Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers metropolitan statistical area rose 2% to 525,032 people, from 513,449 in 2015. The area growth represented a large portion of the population increase in the state. In Arkansas, the population rose by an estimated 10,395 people, between 2015 and 2016. Only 21 metropolitan statistical areas are growing faster than Northwest Arkansas, noted the Census data released Thursday (March 23). The pace of growth was roughly the same as between 2014-2015.

QuoteThe U.S. Census Bureau released a new population estimate that ranks the Northwest Arkansas metro area as the 22nd fastest growing metro area in the nation.

They also said the population increased more than 11,000 people from 2015 to 2016.

Personally I would rather live in Conway any day.  Great town.  And they have actually got a plan to handle their growth.  3 colleges and a great city owned utilities company.  Right in the middle of the state  and easy to go anywhere.  Right on the Interstate and Highway 65

Doesn't UA give Texas kids in state tuition pricing?

I believe that only includes Texarkana, TX/Bowie, County. However, the UofA does offer a scholarship (New Arkansan Program) to help offset a portion of the difference in cost between in-state & out-of-state tuition for new students from bordering states Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas. Kansas is also included. The scholarship is based on GPA & ACT/SAT scores.

You couldn't pay me enough to live in Conway, the traffic there is terrible. Have you ever tried to get on I-40 on coming from the east on 64? There's like a 10 minute wait to drive 2 miles......horrible!!!!!

That's why you turn left at Harps/Sonic and head south on E. German, go past Conway Christian and then west on Dave Ward. Hit the roundabouts on DW and you are on I-40. Often times this is quicker.

Living in rice country, I can understand why you say this.  It's all a matter of perspective.  I lived in Dallas for a long time before moving back to Conway.  I joked for years after moving back that in Dallas we had rush hour traffic.  Here in Conway we have rush minute traffic.

The locals know how to avoid that mess. I loved my time in Conway, but I am finally (after 11years) glad we picked Fayetteville. The only time I don't like it is when people seem to show up out of nowhere for something near MLK & Razorback road.

Have lived in Conway for 11 years and the traffic is terrible.  So are the streets and there's weeds growing in the streets with trash everywhere.  So many people flocking here & we are about to sell and move.  Hopefully before summer.  I guess it's nice for someone that loves to go shopping.

i saw one of these type lists except it was best place for "singles" and Fayetteville was number 1 on that list out of 10.  I believe the parameter was cities between 10,000 and 100,000 population though.

The city isn't a problem really in fact it is pretty great.

Tell me, I don't drive down Stadium in Jonesboro, after 3pm, and never at Christmas shopping time. It was mostly a joke, I just so thankful for the Vilonia bypass and all the 4 lane improvements. It's just a let down after being in the left lane with the hammerdown.

I liked Conway when I lived there. Traffic isn't bad at all, you can get across town in 15 minutes at peak drive times unless there's a wreck or something, especially if you take 40 or cut through town.
