How much Money can Chavis demand and for how many years would he want guaranteed?

Would he want $2 million a year for 3 years?  A&M would help the first year but it would be all us the other years.

Is he worth that?

Or should be go with a younger up and ocmer who has had great success but at a smaller school.

O Lord, here goes Norvell again...lmao

It'd be really stupid to pay Chavis more than he's making at TAMU.

I can't believe we would pay more than that, which I thought was too much, anyway.

I was going to post that it'd be really stupid to pay him AS MUCH as he's making at TAMU, but figured people would have a fit about it.

Agreed.  I will say that Arranda isn't doing anything that Chavis wasn't at LSU.

I agree with that.  Elite talent will make any DC look good.

Although I am a big fan of Aranda.  He's also a stud recruiter.

Let's be honest, no football coach is worth the millions of dollars they are making to coach football.

That being said, we pay what the market dictates and if that is 2M for 2018 Chavis then we will pay that.

Hawginj

I dont believe Arkansas is paying more than 1.5 for Chavis

No one else would pay that for Chavis.  We're a bunch of suckers if we RAISE his pay from TAMU.

So long as it doesn't take away from position coach salaries, that's fine.

We absolutely, positively, 1000000% have to hire proven recruiters.

What's your thoughts on Ron Cooper as a recruiter?  Steve Caldwell has shown he has an eye for talent.

Remember Yurachek isn't a fan of overloading contracts and especially guarantees. I say put incentives in there and let him earn the extra.

That's what I think.  Pay good for a DC but have the cash to go after proven position coaches.   If Chavis is going to suck cash away from high quality position coaches who can recruit than I don't want him

Depends on if he takes the assisted living housing community retirement package or not.

He's a tremendous evaluator of talent and an elite DB coach.  I'm not sure how he'd do recruiting against big-time programs at Arkansas, but I know he could find talent and develop it.

I feel almost exactly the same about Caldwell.  Outstanding evaluator.

Bottom line: I think both would be very solid hires.

That might be more important at Arkansas.  Jeff Traylor is a great recruiter.  It would be nice if the other secondary coach is a proven recruiter.

VERY important at Arkansas.  We're not going to win many toe-to-toe recruiting battles with the bluebloods.  We HAVE to be able to find under-recruited talent and develop them.

Generally speaking contracts aren't based on performance in CFB. We can't say "we don't think you are that good, so we will offer you x".  That's not how it works. Chavis will get paid b/c CCM wants a flashy name.

True, but it's a combination. The right guy with the right logo on his shirt recruits at a high level. Take away the guy or the logo and you are missing on studs.

One things for sure IMO, there a several kids in this State that are overlooked every year that could contribute, diamond in the rough type, I hope they really evaluate the Ark kids and don't just offer who is in the top 10 in state

Not really.   The only way to get these 'diamonds in the rough',  is to offer them *and* an excess of other potential developmental players at a success rate that's astronomically high.

Yes, other Arkansas guys do become legitimate players in college football;  even all of those, however, aren't SEC quality.

Essentially, the idea that we could mine Arkansas  more than marginally more efficiently is a sunk cost investment, that would curtail our ability to recruit elsewhere.    You only ask for perfection, in  hit/miss developmental projects-- an irrational standard.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."
