Are we as bad as we've ever been? (by the numbers) PART 2

A reply from my other 'Are we as bad as we've ever been?' post asked about the inclusion of strength of schedule and conference wins.  I found a historical database that uses such a variable for SOS and I worked in the conference wins into my own formula.  (www.sports-reference.com)

Background:
The sports-reference.com board lists a SOS rating for every year going all the way back to the first year that a team fielded a team.  Where this comes from must be some proprietary formula generated by the website.  They explain it by saying that a 0 SOS rating is average, a + number is above average and a - number is below average.

Turns out that the 1980's and the weak SWC are showing up in the values, and the 1970's were apparently more difficult that I'm giving them credit for.  The more recent values (Petrino, Bielema eras) lend themselves to an improved SEC. 

Results:
So what I've done here is to multiply the win % for a  given 5 year period with the average SOS values for those years.  As a bonus, I've added to this value the number of conference wins times the SOS.  This means more wins in low SOS years could be worth less than less wins in higher SOS years.

Formula:   Value = [(Season wins*SOS)+(Conference wins*SOS)]

The results show that Bielema shows up on both the 'good' list and the 'bad' list.  We haven't had a season show up on the 'good' list in 11 years, but this season does show up on the 'bad' list.  His name doesn't show up anywhere above on the 5 year stretch table.  This is because the SOS for the years he has been coach has been so high that it has covered up his terrible record, until the past 2 seasons, where the lack of SOS and conference wins has hurt his Value.

Conclusion:
Bielema began well having season ratings of 48, then 14 and 10.  Good start.  However, the past 2 seasons have yielded 29, and this season's 49. 

This data set shows a more precipitous fall in the past two seasons.  CBB has won less, with what the data says is less SOS.  It's going to be hard to sink to that of Ford, who also stuck around 5 years. 

It's also interesting to see how the various coaches stack up against each other.  Petrino had a Value 2nd to Broyles.

I know this is a lot to digest, but it shows the effect of SOS and conference record.
