When you're as incompetent in your job as Nutt is, you're constantly in fear of being exposed as the fraud you know you are.  It's easy to be paranoid in that situation.

This reminds me of someone at a busy intersection with dozens of cars around.  Someone, somewhere honks his horn...and the guy becomes angry.

"Why is that *&%$*@ honking at me?"

Then again, if you are driving a 1971 Impala that has once again stalled at a traffic light, and you're holding up traffic because your car is a piece of junk...maybe you have a good reason to believe they are honking at you.

"I also remember in the Cotton Bowl against OU that Bob Stoops was pretty much making fun of him the whole week before the game in the media. "

i was there -- including OU's pressers -- the entire week heading into it and this did not happen. not in a public setting, anyway. besides, u can't make fun of someone "in the media." well, i guess it's possible, but that whole thot is disgusting!

i have a real hard time buying into this nutt claim at face value. i could see an assistant laughing at a joke (players and coaches alike had plenty of time on their hands for such), prank or whatever or just feeling downright giddy about the way his guys were playing. don't think that equals dissing nutt.

as i recall, tho, didn't a USC linebacker make fun of the predictability of the play calls? if so, that's a helluva lot more damaging than a sideline giggle.

I agree with many that this story smells.  I believe that Nutt is once again lying(hyping up) fans for the game.  He is trying to run this whole revenge theme for the game, which I don't understand in the least.  Nutt needs to shut his mouth and get some damn dignity.

A person above mentioned my lack of posts as possible evidence that my opinion did not count as much as someone with thousands.  I'm not sure what my "post count" has to do with being a Hog fan for over 35 years.  I am in no way saying that everyone should be happy ALL the time with EVERYTHING.... BUT this constant bashing is just sad.  Another person mentioned guys on here cutting and pasting there one liners and I think he hit the nail right on the head.

I urge some of you to go and look at other SEC BB's and notice the overall tone of the community.  Sure, there will be people who are dissapointed in some things but there won't be just outright bashing on every thread.  How could you make fun of Nutt saying "love that helmet"?  I mean, don't YOU love the helmet?  I think it would stand to reason that if you're a Hog fan you would.

As a TRUE Hog fan for over 35 years I am embarrassed by a number of you on this BB and I know that I am not alone in that sentiment.  Oh and before you go calling me a "tree hugger" etc. etc. remember that there is plenty I am not happy with as well but I know the TRUE definition of what being a Hog fan is all about.

QuoteHow could you make fun of Nutt saying "love that helmet"?  I mean, don't YOU love the helmet?  I think it would stand to reason that if you're a Hog fan you would.

Because it is such obvious HDN used car salesman bull.  He loved the helmet so much that he transferred to OSU.  He loved the helmet so much that he held us up for more money when he almost went to Nebraska.  And, he loved the helmet so much that one year after turning down the Nebraska job and having a press conference where he once again told us how much he loved the helmet, got a raise, and a two year free pass, he practically begged for the LSU job.

HDN only cares for himself.  That is fine.  It is a business afterall, but don't pee on my leg and tell me it is raining.  It is also apparent that he cares more for himself and his ego than he does the immediate success of the team.  His stubborn refusal to relinquish the playcalling role is but one example of this facet of his personality.  That is not okay.

So, I would be willing to get a coach who had a lot less 'love for the helmet' if he was actually competent at his job.

Look man, most of us here who are negative and pissed spend a lot of money on the program and going to the games.  We have sat through and endured the embarrasments like Georgia at RRS, Kentucky at RRS, numerous other games, and let us not forget, Vanderbilt at RRS.  We refuse to buy into the hype anymore.

You may be a journalist, but you're pretty crappy at reading between the lines.  What part of "pretty much" do you not understand?  Pretty much in the Arkansas vernacular implies that it was not over the top, but veiled.   It was apparent all week that Bob Stoops thought we were a joke and that the game was a joke.  And he did make some pretty cutting remarks that could only be taken as insults.

Now before you make fun of my use of term "in the media" why don't you get out there and do your damn job.  Hell, if Bob Stoops had called HDN the biggest idiot in college football at a press conference we couldn't depend on you in the Arkansas media to report it.  Instead we would have gotten a two page essay on the mutual love shared by Stoops and HDN and how Stoops used HDN as a model for the turnaround at OU.

So, in closing, take you 80 IQ journalist butt back out there and do some real reporting.

Next time, why don't you post quotes and evidence before running down a poster?  Dana was there, apparantly you weren't.  You haven't even provided a quote to back yourself up.  Until you do, shut the frick up.

hawgon,

i know what "pretty much" means, u jerk. and unlike u who has probably never been much of anywhere, and certainly not on sidelines, in lockerrooms or pressers at D-I football games, much less bowls, i heard no stoops barbs toward nutt. if u knew what you were talking about at all, you'd know stoops is about as guarded as it gets and wouldn't be stupid enough to say "pretty much" anything negative about another coach. but i guess u and bob had long off-the-record chats on such.

my "damn job" is in florida now. i'm sure i'll see u on the sideline and in the lockerrooms during and after bucs games.

now you get back to your job at the plant or real estate office (and i'm "pretty much" sure i won't be critiquing how u hold the mop or drive people to houses).

Kiss my booty swino.  Stoops thought we were a joke.  The OU fans thought we were a joke.  The team thought we were a joke.  It was obvious.  I remember, because at the time I still believed and it pissed me off.  I also know for a fact from first hand knowledge that they WERE laughing their asses off at the sideline antics of HDN both while looking at the film before the game, and after the game.  I know someone who was a trainer on that team.  I also know it was brought up and one of his coaching clinics as well, although maybe not in a main presentation at the clinic.

Now, name more than a handful of instances in the last 9 years where the Arkansas media has been truthful with us about HDN.  Name more than a few instances where they have seen what is painfully obvious to those of us watching the games.  You can't because they are too worried about having their access cut off to actually be critical.

Now when Dana and the others actually get out there and do some reporting, instead of just sniping at HDN on message boards, I will have the proper amount of respect for them.

Never...do you understand that you contribute to the constant griping and complaining?  It is because people like you get on here and make silly statements.  People that support Nutt usually have only 3-5 reasons.  They keep bringing them up over and over again.  You guys are the ones that are not original.  For your 3-5 little arguments, there are 3-5 things that can be said on the other side of your argument...FOR EACH ONE!

Tell you what...why don't you actually go back and read some more post.  I have a post a few weeks back that address all of the arguments of the HDN supporters.  Even the two you just mentioned.  So, again, who is not being original?

But just for you...I will deal with the same old crap that has been run out before your side:

1.  Love that Helmet:  I'm sure he does.  I am sure that he has fond memories of being a player and coach here at Arkansas.  That helmet is also paying him 1.5.
However, you can understand why fan's find it hard to believe and have made a joke out of it is...He left once to go to OKC.  He started to leave to go to Neb.  He actively sought the job at L.S.U.
-------In other words...be honest...you love that helmet  until it gets too tough or until a better situation comes along.

2.  You guys are bitter...You just hate Nutt..."I know the true definition of what being a hog fan is all about." LOL...Wow...and you are the final authority...cause you have been a fan for 35 yrs.  This whole board is just full of mean bitter people.  You know what, I need to shorten this post....let me just say....
---------Arkansas fans are not just one big state of bitter pessimistic people.  HDN has given tons of reasons.  You go look at other message boards in the SEC.  Find a coach at a school that has this much fan support, that is coming off of back to back losing seasons, that has made just horrible play calls, was forced to finally hire some help, that is going into his 9th year, getting paid 1.5 million a year, and refuses to take responsibility or blame, but wants to take credit...find me another school in the SEC like that...and my friend it will be as bad or possibly much worse than this one.

Well, little buddy, my YOUNG friend, you are not the final authority on what is the true definition of being a hog fan is.  Your post was a post from someone that hasn't read enough, however, just wants to post something positive for HDN and slam the otherside to make his post seem intelligent.

Now, look how much time I have wasted and derailing my own thread (which WAS/IS not a Nutt Bash) trying to explain things to a neeeeew poster.

And look, maybe I was unnecessarily dickish about making my point.  For that I apologize.  But don't kid yourself.  Many of us fans are tired of being fed the same old crap.  Will there be anybody outside of the pages of the Arkansas Times who will step up and call a spade a spade?  Will it ever happen?

I call BullSh*t............ :puke: Just another smoke and mirrors ploy to rally support for an underacheiving coaching staff. An educated guess would surmise that many coaches have laughed at Nutt over the years.

hawgon,

peace, then. i understand the point when u put it like that. one of the last things i wrote -- i think THE last -- was that nutt needed to hire an OC BEFORE last season and that it should be malzahn.

i know i defended him in the past on several topics, but i also attacked the lack of discipline and play-calling with some regularity.

are arkie reporters who cover the UA, for the very most part, pros who call it like they see it (as per "columnists") or reporters who ask the hard questions (and press the issues)?

absolutely not.

i tried to change that in my five-year tenure. then the folks i worked for added clay henry, harry king and dudley dawson to my lineup (even dictating where their, um, stuff must run; with king, left-hand rail no matter the subject) with no consultation with me. that's arkie "journalism," unfortunately, and those were the last-straw moves.

I'd give anything to end a season ranked in the Top 20 so we could have new discussions.

Nutt is a girl.  He's embarrassing.  If this thing is accurate then it's classless but no less than Shibest's antics.

Why does he think he needs to share the fact that his team was so pitiful that he was laughed at by opposing coaches?  Just proves what a lot of us have been saying that Nutt is a clown.

LISTEN EVERYONE:  I AM MORE READY THAN ANYONE ON THIS BOARD TO SEE NUTT FIRED AND REMOVED FROM ANY CONNECTION WITH THIS PROGRAM.  THIS IS NOT A BASH NUTT THREAD.  HE IS OUR COACH FOR ONE MORE YEAR AT LEAST...

However, since he is still our coach and officially a razorback...that just ticked me off.  All of you that talk about USC having class and being a program that we are espiring to be...well...they are not.  I know what Shiebest did.  I loved him as a receiver at Arkansas...but the stunt he pulled...he should have been fired on the spot.  That is not what we want.

For a coach from another team to openly laugh at any of our coaches is inexcusable...NO CLASS.  Fans, I understand doing something like that.  I hope and pray that HDN uses this as bulletin board material for game 1.

Too bad Numb Nutts doesn't have the ability or smarts to get even with USC.

Numb Nutts is a laughing stock, literally. If I was USC, I'd be laughing, too. Numb Nutts is a joke and an embarassment to the entire State of Arkansas. Sad.

There is a solution: fire Numb Nutts' worthless @$$ immediately. We aren't going anywhere with Numb Nutts at the helm. Look for USC to roll again at RRS in a laugher.

Does it make you feel big to degrade our coach?

MrSpook1352

Thanks for another lively, informative, intellectual discussion.  I'm always amazed at how each post that's added continues to educate the fans, build team spirit and grow excited anticipation for the fall.  Thanks to all of you.  You are to be commended.

Call Mr. Sow

The bottom line to me is this...I was at the USC game, and I got laughed at by several 'fans' of USC.  Their fans are a bunch of classless, loathsome front-runners by my estimation.  I took even more darn when I wore my Ark gear to a sports bar the next day.  All because I supported my team even when things are way down.  It's not like it's my fault our team was not prepared to play football for the first half of last season, but I took plenty of grief for it.  So let me just say that I would very much like to see the Hogs exact some revenge on USC this season...I just don't believe it can happen with HDN on the sidelines.

Anyway, when Houston Nutt--who is the #1 reason the team was so pitiful last year--complains that some USC coaches were mean to him, it's pretty hard for me to drum up any sympathy for him.  HDN deserves every scintilla of abuse that is heaped upon him until he does the right thing and quits.

I don't believe in getting angry at teams when they run up the score on us...that's our own fault for not stopping them...and I don't believe in getting angry at other teams' coaches when they are laughing at a man who strongly deserves ridicule and derision.  If it is true that the USC coaches were laughing at Nutt last year, I would applaud them for their perspicacity.

qakhed

Uncle you heard it correctly. I felt the same way as you. It aggravates me to hear alot of this crap. He is our coach for at least one more year. All of this crying and moaning isn't going to change that. I'm getting tired of hearing it all the time. If someone says something positive then "we're nutt lovers" or "nutt's nephew" or some other dig, but yet you all cry like little girls. If the program get turned around I'm not opposed to keeping him, if we have another bad season, I think it's time to move on to other options. Most of you however, will gripe if we win or not.

Who cares if the coaches at USC were laughing at him.  Don't forget they hung 70 on us and could have went so far as to hang 100 if they wanted to.  Him being laughed at should be the least of his worries or ours, he should have had his ass kicked.

Swino

I will still bet that Houston made at least 85% of the story up.

I'm much more embarrassed that he complained about the laughing. I wouldn't even bring that game up if I were him. I would just bury my head in the sand and prey that Gus can save my sorry A$$!

He was directly asked about it at some dinner he was at over the weekend. I doubt he would have brought it either.

I will still bet that Houston made at least 85% of the story up.

Mike Irwin had a long segment on this very thread this morning on PR.  I was driving in the storm and lightning was breaking up the radio...but from what I gathered...

He confirmed this story from some of the Arkansas players.  It was when they were coming back out for the second half, and were in the tunnel together.  I think he probably got the truth of who it was and what was said, but again, my radio was breaking up when he was saying [who it was and what was said].

Again Swino, if this is only 15% true, then we as fan's should be outraged.  The team and coaches should be outraged.  This needs to be a hostile environment when USC gets here. (in a non violent sort of way).

HDN IS going to be our coach for next year, and you all know how I feel about that.  However, it wouldn't have mattered if he got fired after last season.  While he was our coach someone was mocking him and our team.  If that doesn't make you angry as a hog fan, it should.  We all love our hogs, and there are times that we should focus our anger in a new direction.  USC needs some help being humbled.

I will still post my opinions on here debating with anyone the virtues (or lack of) HDN being our HC.  But in this one area (USC) we should all be in agreement.

Your sick and tired of whiners? Reread your post.

No whining here...don't know where you got that from...... Fact is fact......  You win, nobody laughs at you........ That's not whining.....Cold hard truth....

your dilusional. When I read your post I can even hear the whineiness in your words. It reaks of whiney. That is exactly what I was talking about a little bit ago. The haters whine and cry and accuse everyone else of being whiners and cryers. Funny don't you think?

Talk about WHINING?  and you think I whine... You should call 1-800-waaaaaaaaaa..... That's Nutt's favorite tele line....

I often agree with your posts, but I must disagree here.  It would be deeply hypocritical for posters to demand someone else give even a little respect to someone posters don't respect at all.  I'd rather the genuine fans that hate HDN laugh at him at the games themselves than to pretend respect or expect even polite respect from others.  Anything else is just being fake.

Ugly..... You're right he's our coach..... But I'm not outraged at this...I'm really not....  What I think is sad, is that fact that he explained to the masses he was being laughed at...I don't care if he was asked about it or not...... He runs around other questions, why didn't he run around this one....... There's only one person who has a chance to humble USC, the big bad TROJANS who laugh at wanna-be coaches, and that's NUTT.......  I do love the hogs, and you know how I feel about our coach still coaching, and it pains me to no end to be in this situation....Hopefully we'll have Butch after  next season ...... again, sad this is a thread...

I'd give anything to end a season ranked in the Top 20 so we could have new discussions.

I don't think "anything" is enough. You'll have to come up with more than "anything" in order to get a Nutt team to finish in the top 20 in the country at season's end while playing in the SEC. Nutt just can't seem to win in October.
I don't want you to agree with me because you're weak. I want you to agree with me because you know I'm right.

DTS just reported that HDN said that during the USC game that one of the coaches was laughing at him.  He said it embarrassed him and angered him.  He did not give the name of which coach from USC was doing that.

You've got it bassakwards. It's nutt who degrades himself, the team, the fans, the state. He even tells us the other coaches are laughing at him. What more do you huggers need to see to know this man is not up for the job?

And whining and crying about it is doing what? Ruining any credibility that we fans have?

You defend ad nauseum the self-admitted laughingstock of the college football world. And then mention credibility?

Thanks for the laff. He'll be here all week folks. Don't forget the tip jar. Kids to feed........

Everything that Arkansas did in the game last year was laughable AND the entire USC team had the time of their life.  Sure they were laughing, they were having a great time.  If Houston doesn't want anybody to laugh at him, he needs to recruit and coach better.  Last years beat down was of his own doing.  I laughed at him and still do.

I disagree with your disagreement :).

I have an older brother and an older sister.  We would fight and at times even yell, "I hate you!" as little kids are apt to do.  My older brother would even make fun of me or pick on me in front of his friends and my friends.  But if one of them joined in against me, he would turn on them like a raging bull.  He could do it, but you better pray to whoever you pray to if my brother caught you doing it.

Like it or not HDN is for now still part of the family.

Or, maybe a better illustration of this is, my buddy that returned from the war (both Afg. and Iraq) tells me that you can go into the home of one of the people that has sworn to kill all Americans and they will host you.  They may argue and complain and even tell you that you are evil, but if one of their friends or even another family member tries to do you harm while you are in their house, they will fight with everything they have to defend you.  That is their culture...and it isn't ALL bad.

All I am saying is, that as long as HDN is in my house (welcomed or not) I will be angry if an outsider does something like USC did.  Doesn't mean that HDN is welcomed here, doesn't mean that I want him to stay another minuted.  I would dance in the street if Mike Irwin got on here and reported that HDN had been fired...I will continue to voice my complaints and anger at the powers that be that have kept him here.

But, if any team or coach openly laughs or mocks anything to do with my Hogs...then they better be ready for a fight.  Yeah...I will still whine about Nutt being here.  But USC had better be prepared when they arrive in Fayetteville, because I won't be the only one VERY ANGRY when they step on that field.
