How much credit does he deserve for tonight's win?  I personally think the outcome of the game would have been the same if he had already gone to Michigan and Crowton was interim HC.

Wildhog

He just won the national championship...I think just a little credit is due.

What does the guy have to do to earn a little respect ? He just beat the guy that everyone said was maybe the smartest big game coach in America by two TD's with the intangibles solidly in the other corner.

To earn my respect he needs to win without sabans players. starting next year if he wins. ill give him all the respect in the world.

Les Miles is annoying and really isn't that good of a coach.  He lost to us and we sucked this year.  I'm pretty sure everyone in the SEC and the top half of the Pac 10 and Big 12 could of beat Ohio State tonight.  They aren't very good at all.  All the BCS bowls this year were horrible match ups besides the Kansas Va Tech game.

He just won the national championship.  Saban's players or not, you still have to coach.  I don't care who he lost to. The guy has earned a little credit.  If he was our coach, and we just won a NC, we'd be screaming for him to get some respect.

Ok so he didn't have credit before for getting LSU to this game, and now people want to change their opinions because he just beat a horrible Ohio State team.  I understand giving him credit for winning the National Championship this year, which is mostly because everyone else blew games for LSU to get in there cause LSU isn't the best team in my opinion, but to change your opinion after beating horrid Ohio State is just dumb.

Bingo.
"If I lived back in the wild west days, instead of carrying a six-gun in my holster, I'd carry a soldering iron. That way, if some smart-aleck cowboy said something like "Hey, look. He's carrying a soldering iron!" and started laughing, and everybody else started laughing, I could just say, "That's right, it's a soldering iron. The soldering iron of justice." Then everybody would get real quiet and ashamed, because they had made fun of the soldering iron of justice, and I could probably hit them up for a free drink."

"I hope if dogs ever take over the world, and they chose a king, they don't just go by size, because I bet there are some Chihuahuas with some good ideas."

ErieHog

He's 2-0 in the BCS, with an MNC.   That's more impressive than 90% of the coaches out there.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

What was Barry Switzer's comment about anyone being able to win if you have enough talent? Something to that effect. He was referring to his opinion that there was more to recruiting than coaching.

Congratulations to LSU and the SEC.

MILES' RECRUITS WERE ALL OVER THE FIELD LAST NITE! Urban Meyer won with Zook's recruits. Tressel won title with Cooper's recruits. Lafell,Dickson,Coleman,Francois,Perriloux,Holloday,Williams, and many more are Miles' recruits. Les is bringing in a pretty good class this year. Don't you hope Petrino does as well with Nutt's players?

Milton

Les Miles is a great coach, if you arn't gonna give him credit after he wins a NC, you are just plain bias.

We've had it with 1 hit wonders coming in, making posts reeking of wanton jackwagonry and then not doing anything about it.

Master B

I've never given the guy much respect, but they had a hell of an offensive game plan.  Even after getting punched in the face early in the game.  I mean those first 2 series, Ohio St looked impressive on both sides of the ball.

Going into the game, I thought that the Sweater Vest was going to kill Miles, but Miles definitely got the better of him.

SquidBilly

But the offensive game plan was designed by Gary Crowton who in my opinion can coach circles around Miles.  And on defense they had Pelini who is obviously a good coach because Osborne decided to hire him as Nebraska's HC.  As far as recruiting goes, LSU pretty much recruits itself.  Look at their roster, about 90% of their kids are from the state of Louisiana so even a mediocre coach, which at best is what Miles is, could recruit to LSU.  I think this is a case of the offense and defense playing so well last night that fortunately for LSU no tough coaching decisions had to be made by Miles.  He coaches best when he is just being a spectator...

bleacherHOG

All I have to say is his working of the potential Michigan deal added his $ 300,000 to his bonus if he won the National Championship.  If nothing else, the boy knows how to make the $$$

Tressel was outcoached last night.  OSU players were outplayed.  You can claim Saban's players all day long, you can claim the coordinators came up with gameplan and adjustments.  To say it wouldn't have made any difference if he was on the sidelines is to say he is a worse coach than TCTWF and I just don't see it.  We played without whatever semblance of a coach TCTWF and it was by far our worst game of the season.  To say LSU would have won without Miles on the sidelines gives him more credit than TCTWF.  That is wrong at best.  Think before you type.

What I have been wondering is why didnt the players pour gatorade on him. They did the two assitants but I did not see them get Les. Unless I missed?

He is the coach so he gets the credit.  Who gets the credit for a loss?  Buck stops with him, good and bad.

They didn't pour Gatorade on him because he didn't deserve it.  They poured it on Pelini and on the recruiting coordinator.  They would have poured it on Crowton but he was in the booth.  Apparently the players think Miles is as insignificant as I do.

dougieritch

Personally I think Les Miles is a creep, and I really don't know how good of a coach he is...I'm sure anyone could win with LSU's talent...including Hootie.

If he wins the NC again I'll give him some credit.

BCShogs

Gary Crowton and Bo Pelini did a great job. I refuse to give Miles any credit though.

I agree. Crowton was the articect of the offense. He loves those mis-direction playes, like overloading one side and throwing to the TE on the other and stuff like that.

How does LSU winning 2 of the last 5 MNC's affect recruiting in the SEC West?

That is EXACTLY what makes him a good coach.  He surrounds himself with great assistants.  JFB did the same, thus his success.

smoked hog

Hires good assistants and has a good recruiting coordinator. Lets people do their jobs. Sounds like a good coach to me. Now if you were asking me if I would place him as a top coach on his talent alone then not a chance. But it seems like he has figured out how to be a CEO and stay out of the way. Who wishes we would have done that two years ago.

PlayCallinBrotha

I wonder if the people who don't want give Miles any credit for the NC, are the same ones who said HDN kept us from playing for it a couple of times when he was here. Like the guy or not, I don't see how you can not give him credit, all the distractions from the media alone would have killed some teams chances of winning a game like that.
