I didn't listen to any of this cause I'm at work. But it sounds as though we have a coach that wants to retire with one last chance for glory. A man on a mission. To retire as the man that brought Arkansas BB back into the the top 20 every year with multiple NC championship games. Maybe at least one. Who knows he might do what Nolan was unable to do. Win back to back.

Now lets get behind this coach and show him what kind of fans he's been missing all these years. Lets call them hogs proudly!

National Champions here we come!

No need bickering when we can have some fun. Save the bickering for Nutt ball and Frank.

Got to agree, give the guy a chance and back him 110%. Go Hogs! After all Nutt got a 2 year pass.

So some of you would rather have a Houston Nutt type press conference?  Promises, exciting... blah, blah.  I don't care if he is the most boring fella in the world, wins are all that matter to me.  I've turned around completely and i'm giving this guy a shot.

Great point.
I need to be more like my dog...if you can't fight it, screw it, or eat it, then piss on it.

The things you guys are happy about are the same things Heath had.  Professional, classy, and well-spoken.  That is great, but we need a coach that can motivate talent.  He may be more exciting when coaching, but his press conference was plain boring.

Secondly, he has been a Creighton eighteen years and made the NCAA Tournament seven times.  Heath made it two out of five years in a tougher conference.  After doing some math, if heath were given eighteen years he would have made the Tournament 7.2 times.  How is Altman a step up?

I will not root against him.  I hope he succeeds.  I just don't think this was the right hire.  I guess time will tell.

You are exactly right.  We didn't hire this guy to be a spokesman.  Bobby Knight is the winningest coach of all time in D1 basketball and he isn't exactly "professional and well spoken."

Don't get me wrong, I hope DA wins the SEC and takes them to the final four next year, but one of the main goals of this hire was to get a guy that re-energized a tired fan base.  JFB failed in this task.
"If I lived back in the wild west days, instead of carrying a six-gun in my holster, I'd carry a soldering iron. That way, if some smart-aleck cowboy said something like "Hey, look. He's carrying a soldering iron!" and started laughing, and everybody else started laughing, I could just say, "That's right, it's a soldering iron. The soldering iron of justice." Then everybody would get real quiet and ashamed, because they had made fun of the soldering iron of justice, and I could probably hit them up for a free drink."

"I hope if dogs ever take over the world, and they chose a king, they don't just go by size, because I bet there are some Chihuahuas with some good ideas."

Wow.  So many 'facts' that simply aren't so, in one post.

He has not been at Creighton 18 years;  he's been there 13.    Remember, until about 3 years ago  the MVC was a one-bid conference, so getting that bid means a little more.

His teams play hard, they're not out-coached on the floor, and they adjust their style to fit the personnel they have offensively, and play smart, aggressive defense.

Altman is a step up from Heath;   not a giant leap forward, but definitely a step up.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Dude, I am all about Razorback basketball, but I am disappointed about this Altman thing. We were supposed to lose Heath and not miss a step, and we went out and got a coach that is statistically worse than him.

There are alot of us who feel the talent is on campus to make a pretty good run if they had a better, tougher coach.  The table is set for the new coach to make a helluva splash, not at all unlike what Nutt did.

Okay. Why don't you get up in front of a national/local audience of BB (ANGRY) fans that are looking for their savior, which you were chosen to bring us back to the glory days, and see just how great of a speaker you are. I know people who would faint doing that yet are the best leaders at our company. Don't judge a person by the way they look or act on a stage.  That means you have to wait for the season to start before you even have any clue as to how good this coach will be. Until after the first half of basketball is through we won't have a clue how these boys will play or Altman coach. Then when we get into SEC play we will know for sure. That's a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG time from now. So take a chill pill and be patient.

WOW, 3 out of 4 people on here need to go out and get them some. Can't you get excited over anything? I guess if you could you would! I for one can't wait til fall.

Getting some would brighten my outlook on most things.
Life is short.  Act accordingly.

Bingo!  Nail, meet head.. nice post.  The SEC gets 6 to 8 teams typically, odds are way better of getting a bid here... even with a mediocre team.

WHO SAYS SO

Tell me why the SEC Freshman of the Year would want to stay here and rebuild for three years (his entire career)? Beverly is going to play where he can get some attention and somewhere where the team has a shot in hell at winning... Altman isn't going to win crap his first two years here. This was a desperate hire and the players know that.

Rebuilding?? Every single player that saw the court last year is back... (besides a few that sucked) and that includes SEVEN seniors.... Can you explain to me how that's rebuilding?

Well, I posted too early with facts I hadn't backed up yet.  I guess that is what I get from getting specific information from news stations during live posts.  I was just caught in the moment.

I want this guy to succeede, I am just skeptical right now.  That's all.

Sorry again about the false stats in my earlier post, won't happen again.  Just being stupid on my part.  Plus, it didn't help that Broyles changed the number of years Altman was at Creighton multiple times.

I attend wichita state and have had the opportunity to see his bluejays take it to the shockers several times...all in all i believe he will be good for the hogs

Can he chew some ass out when needed?

Im not sure if College Athletics is ready for this.  "Chew[ing] some ass out" will only get him in trouble.  Just ask Pookie the former coach of LSU.....It didn't really work for her either.

Okay, to answer the questions.  I don't post here much, but was at the press conference.

Beverly was there, sitting in front row on the left as you looked at the podium.  Sitting next to him was our Springdale recruit and Sanchez from Springdale was also there.

Frank will be staying on with the Foundation as a fundraiser.

Dave Van Horn and his wife were there as well and spent some time visiting with Mrs. Altman after the press conference, I'm sure to reassure her about the transition to NW Arkansas from Nebraska since they've been through it.

Visited with Coach Altman, his wife and daughter, very nice family.

I think it's a good hire!  Why?  We finally have an identity again...we are a "Pressing Team!"

Give him a break, he'll proof it on the court in 2007.  Biggest recruiting prize at this point will be keeping his present team.  Next job, get busy putting his staff together, then be on the Hill this weekend for "Real Deal on the Hill", a recruiters dream.

Just finished watching the press conference. I'm happy. He looks smart. He holds himself well. I get a feeling he'll have this team ready to play real BB. I believe he will be a leader the players will look up to. He will bring the team together as one. The team will be disciplined. They will be ready to go for 40 minutes of playing hard. Dana will be the one. He will bring us back in the national picture. He will make history here and we as fans will be ecstatic about it.

Those of you who were dogging him during the press conference ought to be ashamed of yourselves. You didn't listen nor did you have an opened mind. You will never be supportive cause you have made your mind numb. I haven't. I am going to enjoy this coach taking my favorite team to the NC game. I'm not saying it will happen right away but it will happen with this coach in charge.

Cheers to you coach Altman. Thank you for accepting the job. Thank you for visioning our program as a winning tradition once again. Thank you for realizing the importance the fans are to the BB program. Bring them back coach. I know you will.
