On Sunday afternoon, Freeze and the Tigers earned the commitment of another hometown kid as Dylan Gentry, a 3-star wide receiver out of Central-Phenix City announced his commitment to Auburn:



Gentry, whose announcement comes just four days after he helped Central-Phenix City win the AHSAA 7A state championship, is the teammate of Auburn's 5-star wide receiver commit Cam Coleman, who flipped his commitment from Texas A&M on Dec. 1.

Report: Former Toledo OL Vinny Sciury to visit Auburn

Former Toledo offensive guard Vinny Sciury is expected to take an official visit to Auburn this weekend, according to Auburn247's Christian Clemente.

Sciury played high school football at Perry (OH) High...

He started multiple years for the Rockets and finished 2023 as PFF's No. 12-rated pass-blocker in the country and will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Sciury joins former Georgia State wide receiver Robert Lewis, who finished the 2023 season with 70 receptions for 877 yards and seven touchdowns. He had a long of 97 yards. He will also one year of eligibility remaining as a redshirt senior.

The duo are the first two transfers to commit to Hugh Freeze's program as the Tigers transition.

Ainslie: From a football mom's point of view: 'Hugh Freeze brought a whole different atmosphere'

The situation Pamela Blocton found herself in on Monday morning was one most football moms can only dream of.

She sat at a table in Pike Road High School's library and watched her son, Malik Blocton, sign his name on the dotted line, making his commitment to Auburn football official. Blocton, a 4-star defensive line prospect, was going to be an Auburn Tiger.

Farther down the table sat her older son, Marcus Harris, who already plays at Auburn and is a staple along the Tigers' defensive line.

"Listen, I would have never imagined in a million years that any of this would be going on how it is," Pamela Blocton said. "But I am blessed. I thank God."

In true mother fashion, Pamela Blocton found a great sense of relief on Monday morning. Not just because she was watching a second son of hers live out his dreams, but because he — like his older brother — would be living out those dreams close to home.

"It's relieving," Pamela Blocton said. "He's right up the road from home."

After all, Pamela Blocton had been the "mom of a college football player a few states away" before.

After graduating from Park Crossing High School in 2019, Harris went on to play football at Kansas, where he played with the Jayhawks until transferring to Auburn in 2021.

Having Harris just 50 miles away instead of 700 miles away was a nice change of pace for Pamela Blocton, who could only hope the same opportunity would exist for her younger son, who entertained the Texas Longhorns throughout much of his recruitment.

All along, however, there was a familiar feeling about Auburn. And that feeling didn't just come as a result of her older son playing there.

"It was just like coming home. It was just love," Pamela Blocton said. "You know, when you're at home, you can just lay back and relax. You just feel loved and I just feel love, camaraderie, a family. And that's what I'm all about."

Fortunately for his mother and Auburn, alike, Malik Blocton felt that way too.

But those feelings weren't always present, Pamela Blocton says.

Instead, they arrived when first-year head coach Hugh Freeze arrived.

"When 'Freeze Warning', as they say, he brought a whole different atmosphere," Pamela Blocton said of the arrival of Freeze. "He brought a family-oriented (culture)."

Freshman defensive back and former 5-star AJ Harris is the most recent Georgia player to hit the transfer portal. News of Harris' intentions to transfer came out Friday evening, with Harris seemingly acknowledging his decision in a response to one of his former teammates:

Harris ranked as the second-best cornerback of the 2023 recruiting cycle and the No. 1 prospect to come out of the state of Alabama, regardless of position. Harris hauled in offers from the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas, USC and others during his recruitment.

At Central, Harris was a teammate to current 5-star Auburn commit Cam Coleman, whose recent flip from Texas A&M has helped define Hugh Freeze's 2024 class.

Georgia LB transfer Jamon Dumas-Johnson arrives on Auburn campus for official visit

Auburn has a very important visitor on campus right now, as Auburn Live's Jeffrey Lee reports that star Georgia linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson is checking out the Tigers as a potential destination.

Dumas-Johnson was a starter and three-year contributor who was a big part of two championship defenses. During his time in Athens, JDJ recorded 125 tackles, 17.0 for loss, 9.5 sacks, six passes defended and even one interception. He's a versatile and athletic piece of the LB room who will be an immediate boost where ever he lands.

He was also street racing the night two members of the Georgia family were killed after celebrating their to-date last National Championship.

Auburn has received a transfer commitment from former Kansas defensive lineman Gage Keys.

A 6-foot-5, 290-pounder, Keys spent three seasons at Minnesota to begin his career (2020-22) before transferring to Kansas ahead of the 2023 season. He redshirted in 2020, then did not play in 2021. In 12 games with the Jayhawks this fall, he posted 21 tackles.

National Signing Day live updates: Auburn pursues last minute flips

Welcome to National Signing Day, one of the most chaotic and exciting recruiting days on the calendar.

Auburn enters the day with 20 players committed to its 2024 recruiting class and expects most of them to sign their National Letter of Intent. Several already have and some have even begun practicing with Auburn as it prepares for the Music City Bowl on Dec. 30.

On the eve of National Signing Day, Auburn's class is ranked as the 11^th best in our nation.

But where the day gets interesting for Auburn is its last-minute pursuit of several flip targets. Five-star safety KJ Bolden (a Florida State commit), five-star DL LJ McCray (a Florida commit) and four-star defensive lineman Amaris Williams (a Florida commit) are all announcing their final college decisions Wednesday and are at the top of Auburn's recruiting board.

Another one of Auburn's top flip targets, five-star rated wide receiver and Alabama commit Ryan Williams, will not be making his decision.

Auburn likely will not land all three.

Ainslie: 4-star quarterback Walker White officially signs letter of intent with Auburn

Walker White, a 4-star quarterback out of Little Rock Christian Academy in Little Rock, Ark., is the most recent player to officially join Auburn's 2024 signing class.

White, who has been committed to Hugh Freeze and the Tigers since Feb. 3, signed his name on the dotted line of his national letter of intent Wednesday, becoming the fourth high school recruit of the early signing period to send over his paperwork to Auburn.

In his senior season at Little Rock Christian Academy, White piloted the Warriors to a 10-3 record as he passed for 2,660 yards, 29 touchdowns and six interceptions with a 62.8% passing percentage. With his legs, White added another 530 yards and nine touchdowns.

Measuring 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, White ranks as eighth-best quarterback prospect in the 2024 class and the third-best prospect out of the state of Arkansas, regardless of position.

Tigers were the first and only team White committed to, and the 4-star quarterback hasn't wavered since. At the time White signed his letter of intent, he had garnered 24 offers from the likes of Alabama, Arkansas, among others...

Freeze spoke to the media on Early Signing Day. It's safe to say that Freeze is excited about what White brings to the table. White is a 4-star quarterback out of Little Rock Christian Academy:

"Walker White, I think, is going to be a star," said Freeze. "... I think he's a true Auburn man. ... I think he's got all the skillsets to do that.

"The goal was to have a top 10 class in year one and a Top 5 class in year two," said Freeze. "That's what is needed to win in this conference."

Ainslie: How a late night of video games helped Hugh Freeze keep Auburn's recruiting class together

When Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze took the job at Auburn last November, he knew what he was getting into as he returned to the SEC.

The SEC's saying, "it just means more" doesn't just apply during 60-minute football games on Saturdays in the fall, but year 'round as the coaches around the conference are known to be some of the hardest hitters on the recruiting trail.

"People in this conference are good at what they do," Freeze said of recruiters around the SEC.

Tuesday night, or Signing Day eve, rather, was a long night for Auburn's coaching staff, Freeze says.

"Listen, last night it was – there's some schools in this conference, they believe in last-night efforts," Freeze said. "You gotta fight."

In reference to Auburn's late-night recruiting efforts, Freeze said the Tigers "held on to some, won one and lost one."\

"You gotta stay up all night and play video games and do stuff that's out of my comfort zone. There was some late-night pushes," Freeze said. "I don't always like what is done, but you've just gotta have plans and you've got to fight for it."

Four-Star DL Antonio Coleman flips to Auburn

Defensive lineman Antonio Coleman of Saraland (AL) High flipped his commitment from Alabama to Auburn Friday afternoon.

The 6-foot-2, 285 pounder had been committed to the Crimson Tide since September.

"What stuck out at Auburn is the coaches, the atmosphere, and the opportunity that I will have to play there," Coleman said.

Freeze believes QB Walker White will be a star at Auburn

After the first season of Hugh Freeze's tenure at Auburn, the passing game is one area that they could use improvement in. The program is addressing that, though, including with the signing of Walker White, a Top-15 quarterback in the class out of Little Rock.

Freeze spoke about what it means for the Tigers to bring someone of White's caliber:

"Walker White, I think, is going to be a star," said Freeze. "I think he has got all the attributes of what a quarterback should look like. I think he's a true Auburn man.

"Obviously, you don't know how quick he will adjust to this game. But I think he has got all the skillsets to do that," said Freeze.

White played high school football at Little Rock Christian Academy (AR) where he was a four-star.

White is the seventh highest-rated player in Auburn's class, which finished at No. 7.

To Freeze, Auburn got a player who could do exactly that for them if White is who they all think he is down on The Plains.

In a fascinating late Wednesday night addition, Auburn announced the signing of former Cal quarterback Sam Jackson V as a wide receiver out of the transfer portal.

Jackson faced Auburn in the second game of the 2023 season:

Jackson and current Auburn starting quarterback Payton Thorne were high school teammates at Naperville Central High.

Auburn does not appear likely to pursue a quarterback in the transfer portal, seemingly happy with the addition of four-star incoming freshman Walker White to replace Robby Ashford.

Ainslie: How a late night in a hotel lobby and talks with Bo Nix led Walker White to Auburn

All through the night Saturday, a third-row SUV at max capacity was burning rubber on a drive from San Antonio to Little Rock, Ark.

Inside was Auburn quarterback signee Walker White, his parents, two of his brothers, his younger sister, one other family friend and all their luggage, including Walker's football helmet from the All-American Bowl he played in the day prior.

At one point, Walker's mother, Amy White, posted a video to her social media showing her backseat passengers playing a game of Spades on a suitcase suspended between the armrests of the middle row seats.

"Making lemonade out of lemons," she wrote.

Initially, Walker and his entourage were set to fly home. But instead, a late-night flight cancelation sent them scrambling and eventually settling on driving through the night – an eight-hour trek that would put them back in Little Rock at around 6 a.m.

Walker's parents, David and Amy White, weren't new to helping their children transition from high school sports to college sports. Their two oldest sons played sports at Arkansas, just three hours away from their Little Rock home.

But with Walker, it was a bit different.

The Whites' oldest sons weren't touted prospects. Instead, John David White walked on with Arkansas' football team as a receiver, while Zac White walked on with Arkansas' baseball team as a fielder.

With Walker, it was the family's first go 'round with a coveted prospect, let alone a coveted quarterback.

"We just didn't have anyone really leading us," Amy White said of navigating Walker's recruitment. "We were pretty much told as a quarterback, he needed to commit earlier rather than later."

The reason behind such a thought process is that surrounding offensive pieces will be more likely to commit to a team already knowing who their quarterback might be.

That said, Walker set his own timeline, hoping to announce his commitment by February of 2023 –

Walker White had a mentor throughout his commitment.

Ironically, that mentor was former Auburn and Oregon quarterback Bo Nix.

Nix, a legacy quarterback when he was at Auburn, helped Walker when he was grappling with the thought of not playing football at Arkansas. After all, his dad was a golfer for the Hogs, while his two older brothers played their respective sports in Fayetteville.

Having experienced a similar situation in transferring away from Auburn, where his father played quarterback for the Tigers, Nix told Walker he should listen to what his heart was telling him.

"If you want to go somewhere else, go somewhere else," said Amy White, echoing what Nix told her son. "And I think that kind of pushed Walker a bit."

And Nix's advice didn't stop there.

In an interview with The Athletic, Walker White said Nix was quick to remind him that "you're only as good as the guys around you."

So Walker quickly set out to help Auburn's recruiting efforts.

On Nov. 25, during his visit to Auburn as the Tigers hosted the Alabama Crimson Tide, Walker sported a navy hoodie with the last names of eight Auburn prospects plastered down the back of it. It was Walkers' wish list.

Just nine days after Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers fell to the Maryland Terrapins in the 2023 Music City Bowl in Nashville, Freeze and the Tigers won the commitment of former Maryland tight end Rico Walker.

After announcing his intentions to enter the transfer portal on Dec. 1, Walker received attention from programs like Pitt, South Florida, Tulane and JMU.

But at the end of the day, it was Auburn, where his father Ricardo once played on the Tigers' defensive line in the 90s, that won Walker over. Ricardo Walker was a freshman on Auburn's undefeated 1993 team.

Auburn running back Brian Battie withdraws from NCAA transfer portal

Auburn running back Brian Battie has withdrawn his name from the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned.

Battie's return to the Tigers will provide Auburn with an excellent runner. He gained 227 yards on the ground and scored once for the Tigers during the 2023 season, playing third fiddle to amateur video producer and voyeur Jarquez Hunter and Damari Alston.

But he has the potential for a breakout campaign with more touches in 2024.

The Tigers announced Lewis's signing on Thursday. He joins the program with one year of eligibility remaining after spending two seasons at the junior college level and then two more at Mississippi State. Lewis gives Auburn a starting-caliber option at tackle.

In need of defensive backs with experience, Auburn landed the commitment of Jerrin Thompson — a safety transferring from Texas —



Thompson, a Texas native, has played in double-digit games each of the last four years as a Longhorn. He has 176 career tackles and five interceptions along with a forced fumble.

Auburn's Music City Bowl loss to Maryland showcased its need to add experience in the secondary. Nehemiah Pritchett, DJ James, Jaylin Simpson and Zion Puckett — all stalwart starters in Auburn's secondary — are leaving for the NFL.

Alabama transfer defensive back Antonio Kite has committed to Auburn, the program announced via social media. He was among the group of Crimson Tide players to enter the transfer portal following Nick Saban's retirement last week.

Kite played mostly on special teams for Alabama in 2023, appearing in seven games as a redshirt freshman. He played in just two games as a true freshman in 2022.

Mobile (Ala.) Vigor four-star IOL Micah DeBose decommitted from Georgia on Dec. 22. Since then, Auburn has appeared to be the frontrunner for the 6-foot-4, 290-pounder, but Jeff Lebby and a new-look Mississippi State are hoping to be the next SEC school to make a move on the trench monster.

One of the reasons Auburn decided to let go of Bryan Harsin was recruiting. He was not stacking up against conference foes and had very little juice throughout the process. While finishing with top 20 classes in the country sounds nice, sometimes, it's only good enough for eighth in the SEC.

Insert Hugh Freeze, who has brought new energy to Auburn when it comes to recruiting. One of his first big commitments was quarterback Walker White out of Little Rock Christian.

"He's been so consistent in trying to continue to recruit his team," Freeze said. "And that's what you need. You need a couple of those... Walker, he kind of took the ownership and leadership of 'Hey, let's put together a top-10 class. That's what we said we wanted.' He jumped in and certainly tried every way in the world to help us do that."

White succeded (sic) with his goal, with Auburn likely finishing inside the top 10 of the On3 Industry Team Rankings. They currently have the No. 8 class in the country and even though the late signing window opens in just a few days, the Tigers seem to be all wrapped up.

Most of White's attention was spent on trying to attract the Freeze Five, a nickname for the five wide receivers Auburn went hard after during the 2024 cycle. Four of them have signed and will begin their college careers on the Plains, with Bryce Cain, Cam Coleman, Malcolm Simmons, and Perry Thompson buying into the program.

The lone missing piece is Five-Star Plus+ Ryan Williams, who was a late reclassify from the 2025 class. However, Williams recently reaffirmed his commitment to the in-state rival, Alabama, and is expected to sign with the Crimson Tide. Auburn certainly made a push and almost fully completed the Freeze Five.

Even so, White was able to attract a ton of receiving talent with him to Auburn. It's been a position the program has struggled with in recent times. High-level quarterbacks have been available but the weapons around them have not always been considered elite.

Landing those four receivers is hopefully going to be a turning point under Freeze.

Auburn freshman quarterback Walker White has a friend and mentor whose name many Auburn fans will recognize.

Both training with QB Country out of Mobile, White and former Auburn and Oregon quarterback Bo Nix have had the opportunity to build a relationship that first started over the phone as Nix was in Eugene, Oregon and White was in Fayetteville (sic).

"I know they're getting a really good player," Nix said of White during Senior Bowl media day in Mobile on Jan. 31. "They're getting a good guy, too. I understand that he works really hard and he's a great teammate."

After having been committed to Auburn since Feb. 3, 2023, White officially onboarded with Hugh Freeze and the Tigers during the early signing period in December, inking his national letter of intent on Dec. 20.

Less than three weeks later and after appearing in the All-American Bowl on Jan. 6, White made his way to Auburn's campus, officially enrolled as a Tiger.

And Nix played a small role.

Tigers inked 18 scholarship freshmen during the early signing period in December, including a couple of five-star receivers in Cam Coleman and Perry.

That duo is coupled with four-star signees Bryce Cain and Malc Simmons. Auburn hoped to have a shot at signing five-star WR Ryan Williams, but the talented playmaker from Saraland re-committed to Alabama on Jan. 24 and signed with the Crimson Tide.

5-star Julian Lewis — USC commit
Plenty of programs are coming after USC pledge Julian Lewis. The Carrollton (Ga.) product remains committed to the Trojans but has recently visited Auburn, Colorado, Georgia and Indiana.

"He came to Auburn late January, it was really his first visit that we've been able to talk to him. Even he admitted, it's kind of a new deal, a developing relationship between he and Hugh Freeze — and let's not forget Auburn just hired a new OC in Derrick Nix. We've seen some QB turnover since the departure of Phillip Montgomery and since the arrival of Nix," Lee said.

"You're seeing kind of a revamped quarterback board with Cutter Woods now on it, Juju Lewis now being more prominent on the board since Derrick Nix has taken over."

4-star TJ Lateef
Orange (Calif.) Lutheran four-star TJ Lateef trimmed his list of top schools down to seven in January. Auburn made the cut, alongside Colorado, Arizona, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Georgia and Florida State. Lateef's familiarity with the Tigers comes via the new OC Nix, who was recruiting him when he was at Ole Miss.

4-star K.J. Lacey — Texas commit
Saraland (Ala.) four-star K.J. Lacey has been committed to Texas since June, but many thought that the 5-foot-11.5, 175-pounder flipping to the Tigers was a real possibility at the end of 2023. That was thanks in-part to Auburn's push for Saraland Five-Star Plus+ wide receiver Ryan Williams, who has since signed with Alabama.

Coming out of Taylors (S.C.) Westside, Cutter Woods is a new offer for the Tigers. He visited The Plains back in October and is looking to make a return visit in 2024.

Auburn Tigers picked up a win over Texas A&M, Notre Dame and the 29 other programs that offered Devin Williams as the 4-star cornerback prospect out of Georgia committed to Hugh Freeze and the Tigers Monday.

Williams had also hauled in offers from the likes of Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State and others.

Corona (Calif.) Centennial four-star quarterback Husan Longstreet is one of the most coveted signal-callers in the 2025 recruiting class. A decision is upcoming for Longstreet, who plans to announce his commitment on August 14.

Currently, Texas A&M is the overwhelming favorite...

Auburn may have something to say about that before this recruitment is all said and done.

Now, 40 years later, Auburn could see another running back named Bo Jackson on The Plains after Hugh Freeze and the Tigers extended an offer to Lamar "Bo" Jackson — a 4-star running back prospect in the 2025 recruiting class.

OT Tavaris Dice commits to Auburn Tigers

Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes four-star offensive tackle Tavaris Dice has committed to Auburn.

He chose the Tigers over the likes of Florida, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee.

Dice is the No. 241 overall prospect and No. 22 OT in the 2025 cycle. He's also the No. 33 player in Georgia.

Dice became a frequent visitor on The Plains toward the end of 2023, making multiple game visits to see the Tigers in action. That was quickly followed up by a pair of Junior Day visits in January and February. Hugh Freeze and his staff found momentum and capitalized.

Among the remaining contenders are Auburn, Penn State, Miami, Florida State and Oregon. He plans to announce his commitment on July 13.

"One of the main things that is going to separate any school in my recruitment is somewhere where the coaching staff and my position coach will be stable," Henderson told On3's Chad Simmons last month. "I am also looking for somewhere where I'll be able to engage with a head coach who pays close attention to the running back position and be successful and win on and off the field. Also, I want to go somewhere where me and my mom feel like home."

Auburn: "Auburn's in-state, an hour and 45 minutes away from me. Auburn has done a good job. Coach Lac (Cadillac Williams, former Auburn RBs coach) offered me my freshman season, that's back when Coach (Bryan) Harsin was here. Me and Coach Lac just always had that day-one communication. The whole season, I know you said everyone thought I was gonna go to Auburn, cause it was the relationships I built with Coach Lac. I know last January when Coach (Hugh) Freeze took the job, he sat down with me and said 'I know I've only been here three or four weeks, but you have been No. 1 on our board.' Ever since that day me and Coach Freeze have had that instant connection. Even when Coach Lac was there, they were letting me know how much I am a priority to them and that I'm the No. 1 guy. Coach Freeze told me 'why go to another state and do something that you can do here. You play in a great state where Alabama and Auburn is, but you can come here and be special.' Even with Coach (Derrick) Nix, that's still the main topic. Auburn considers me as a dude that can come in, make an early impact and get things rolling."

Buster commits to Auburn Tigers

Kannapolis (N.C.) A.L. Brown three-star interior offensive lineman Tai Buster has committed to the Auburn Tigers.

Brown visited Auburn last weekend — his first time on campus. He told Auburn Live that the Tigers vaulted into his top three because they caught him and offered him early in his recruitment.

"They saw me and I really appreciate that," Buster told Auburn Live. "They really got me rolling with this."

Brown is the nation's No. 534 overall prospect, No. 33 interior offensive lineman and No. 13 recruit from North Carolina in the 2025 cycle

Cohen: Does Auburn's impending apparel deal impact recruiting?

Freeze says no.

Auburn appears close to finalizing a new apparel deal. Details are vague but insignia point to Auburn leaving Under Armour — a company facing significant financial hurdles — with Nike as a possible suitor.

"We feel like we're in a very, very positive place right now," Auburn Athletic Director John Cohen said Tuesday during an appearance on the live radio show Next Round Live. "I think our fanbase, everyone connected with Auburn is going to be very pleased with where we are. Just not ready to release because not all the I's are dotted and the T's are crossed."

Auburn could begin negotiating a new deal with other companies as of Sept. 1, 2023, and a frequent topic when these apparel conversations arise is whether one sponsor has an impact in recruiting over another.

Auburn football head coach Hugh Freeze has coached under several different apparel deals — including Nike at Ole Miss and Under Armour this far at Auburn. Freeze was asked Tuesday if a school's apparel sponsor has ever had an impact when he talks to high schoolers.

The answer? Almost never.

It's more of a talking point among fans than reality when recruiting.

"Very rare," Freeze said. "I've been at a bunch of different schools and been a part of three different apparel companies and I don't ever recall feeling like that made a significant difference in the recruitment."

Freeze then made one caveat.

"But I'm certain that it doesn't hurt in some scenarios,"

Williamson four-star offensive tackle Carde Smith grew up a Bama fan. As his college recruitment picked up, Auburn began to emerge.

The idea of playing for the Tigers would've seemed outlandish to Smith when he was young, yet on Wednesday he announced his commitment to Hugh Freeze and staff, trading in red and white for orange and blue.

State pushed hard for the 6-foot-6, 300-pounder.

A few key factors put the in-state school over the top.

"It's very family-oriented, it's close to home, I've got a real good connection with the coaches and they've just made me feel like I'm at home," Smith told On3.

Staying in Alabama played a major role in the end for Smith. Auburn had the in-state momentum and made Smith feel like a priority on The Plains.
