Other thread was garbage. Keep this one focused on the tournament at Augusta National this week.

Looks to be in the low 70s and windy this week with possible morning showers on Friday.

Jason Day wins it by 1, shoots -17

Mickelson.  Fourth green jacket.  Book it.

Although...we followed him at the Shell Houston Open Saturday and he hit some crazy bad shots.  On #12, the drivable par 4, he hit a fairway wood or hybrid right into the middle of the fairway about 30 yards short of the green and 60-70 yards from the back left hole.  From there his second shot came up 20 yards short and probably 10 yards offline left into a bunker.  I told my wife I would want to throw a club if I hit a shot that atrocious.  He tripled the 6th hole after a sliced drive into the swamp.   Still shot 71 despite those disasters.

Either Rory or Jason Day will finish second...but the other will finish outside the top 25 if not miss the cut.

Hawgndaaz

had a friend at the SHO. looked like a good time

GoHogs1091

1st   Justin Rose

2nd   Henrik Stenson

3rd   Bernhard Langer

Kevin Na, Martin Kaymer, Bryson DeChambeau, and Angel Cabrera all finish in the Top 10.

With the exception of Kevin Na, the rest of the above are very good iron players (Bernhard Langer is a Top 10 of all-time iron player).

Kevin Na's iron game can be sporadic, but his putting can make up for his sporadic iron play.

EastexHawg

Patrick Reed will make a run.  I'm guessing top 5.

I said Day over a month ago would be favored and probably win. I didn't envision this stretch lately though and I think he will be tired.

Fowler gets it this weekend.

Day shouldn't be tired.  He has played less this year (and not at all late last year) than any of the top players, plus he took last week off.  Rest won't be a factor with him; his overall health might be though.

Well, that and whether he thinks about giving up the game again like he supposedly did before the Masters a few years ago.

If Rory doesn't start off hot he's in trouble because he will drop that head and sulk.  I can see either a 66 or a 76 from him and neither one would surprise me.   Day is on one of those streaks where he's scary good.

DeChambeau is not a normal Amateur.  He is good.  If he doesn't make the cut, it will probably be because of possible lack of Augusta National course playing knowledge.

An interesting aspect that some may not know that pertains to him is that he plays a set of clubs in which all the irons and wedges are the same length, approximately that of a standard 7 Iron.  That has to be kind of a nightmare for the manufacturer/club maker.

The thought behind same length clubs is a more simplified, repeatable single plane motion swing, and theoretically more repeatable and consistent center face impacts.

No SH**. He's playing in the masters. Of course he's not your normal amateur.

Not normal in the sense that he is probably the best Amateur in the United States since Tiger Woods.

DeChambeau won the NCAA Individual Title and also the U.S. Amateur in the same year.  He joined a very small group of only 4 others who have won both in the same year, the other 4 being Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, and Ryan Moore.

I'm with GoHogs on this. Kid is a freak, and will win tournaments. Love how he dresses too (no homo)

Interesting stat I heard this morning on the XM golf station

Average round position for previous winners after each round:
1st round - 8th
2nd         - 3rd
3rd          - 2nd

6 iron, but they are all the same length. It makes sense to me, which club in you bag do you hit consistently, within 7% of your targeted area? For me it would a 7 iron, but the 6 would be next. I could probably score better if I just used one of those and parked the rest of them.

He did it to emulate Bobby Jones, who did the same thing.  I guess if it worked for ol' Bobby, it's not a bad thing to copy.

DeChambeau is good, but he's no Bob Garrigus.

Rickie Fowler making a mess of the very first hole.  Drive right into the woods; tries the hero shot to get to the green; hits a tree square and it goes backwards.

Well since this is the official Masters thread..gotta get my picks from the other threat into this one...here goes

1) Rory McIlroy
2) Phil Mickelson
3) Justin Rose
4) Brandt (Sneds) Snedeker
5) Jordan Spieth
The long Grey line will never fail our country.

Jackrabbit Hog

Spieth, Casey and DeChambeau all in the fairway on the first, with the amateur the longest by a good bit.  He looks like a pretty big guy.  Certainly bigger than Spieth and Casey.

I know it's early, but nobody's going low.  Right now it's a five-way tie for the top at -1.  It's breezy but not gusty.  Winds are supposed to pick up a bit this afternoon, so we may see a leading score in the 67-68 range.
