i've been vocally critical of our defense so i should probably give it a rest.

but i do wonder................will the rush/pressure scheme remain the same for qb's with less legs....

You can bet that Auburn will run several plays with that John Franklin guy.

White will run also...they run that read option a lot.

The guy that Auburn signed, that couldn't win the starting job at his Junior College last year?  Not really worried about him...

Our D should look like a real SEC defense by or after Florida. Can't decide if CBB can get us over the Fla Curse.

I've seen it mentioned in articles and on tv that Franklin was a JC all American, how can a player be named a AA if he was 2nd string?

They're overrated. They've only played one good team in Tennessee, and they lost by 10. Our "midseason click" has started to show, and we will be coming off a much needed bye week. I expect a very satisfying win against the Gators this year. It's the one I've had circled since preseason, and I feel as good or better about it now that I've seen both teams play. I just hope neither team loses before we meet.

What I'd reeeeeally like is to take away their chance at winning the East, and I'd like it to be done in an epic route. I mean like something that would get CBB criticized and put Mcelwain on the hot seat. I don't want Mcelwain fired, but I want them embarassed to the point where they start questioning everything from the coaches to the players who are redshirting this year.

Arkansas is a much better team than Florida.  We will beat them easily at home.

We gotta get past Auburn first.  If we can, I see CBS picking Arkansas-Florida as its SEC game of the week.

songofthesword

florida game scares the crap out of me. more than any other left.  they have nfl talent EVERYWHERE on that defense. Watson, Tabor and that guy on on the D line are all top 15 caliber picks, Boom recruited well on that side of the ball no doubt.

just as we start to get a handle on this dual threat QB thing...........

Can't say I'm disappointed with this in the least. Man, mobile QBs have tended to give us fits for the most part. Obviously just another weapon that our defense has had to prepare for.

I will be interesting to see whether or not we see more of the (very) "hurry up" type of offense that OM deployed with pretty good success the other night. Unfortunately they caught us trying to get into position/proper formations several times; the results were, predictably, pretty tough on our ability to defend. However, the one notable time that we WERE prepared and set we happened to get a sack on Kelly. Wise(?) and Ledbetter were able to swoop in and take ole Chad to the ground before he really had an opportunity to do anything with the ball.

LSU is actually better now with Coach O. We should win, but now it won't be the cake walk I was expecting. They're not as predictable. Their QB is still bad, but they have been mixing it up more against really weak competition.

nchogg

One observation with the defense vs HUO is after our defense makes a good play some player rant instead of getting lined up for the next play. That is a problem for us. After each play this defense needs to get ready for the next play. We could see this against OM and got burned when they did go fast. I liked the way the defense did not quit and kept their energy level up.

CBS has the doubleheader that day. LSU Alabama that night on CBS. I'd be fine with a afternoon game.

Auburn will play Franklin because running QB has given so much trouble. Not saying he will start but he play to see if we can stop him

They're one loss from falling apart, and getting people looking after their NFL futures over their college present.

And they get Bama the week before us, so we know how that can be for a psychologically weak team.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

I hope the double a gap blitz look does remain...we need to change up what we do against spread offenses. The base, soft zone just wasn't getting it done. Sure was nice to see out LB running downhill towards the QB. Keep in mind we backed out of the blitz look post snap a number of times in the 2nd half, but there was a noticeable affect on Kelly's pass efficiency.

I worry about the "hurry up no huddle" offense.  I recall at one point OM drove the length of the field in less than a minute.  Our defense couldn't get set and couldn't stop it.

Have to call a timeout in that situation and reset your defense. Unless it's the second half. I can't stand burning timeouts in the second half. That almost always come back to bite cha.

Maybe so, but Franklin only has 6 carries in Auburn's last 3 games, so he really hasn't been that involved in their offense since Lashlee took over the play calling.

Hold on there Cowboy.  You DO know that even if we had an 80% chance of winning in each of the games we have remaining (and, we don't), we'd only have a 1 in 3 chance of winning the next 5 games?  Realistically, our true chances of running the table are more like 10%.

But then, that's why they play the games!

I really hope Gus changes QBs every other snap like he's prone to do.  It kills drives.  It is awesome to watch (not literally fun to watch, just fun in that it is terrible for the Auburn football team's chances of winning).

That can be deceiving.  Sacks reduce rushing yardage for QBs.

I haven't looked at his stats, but just keep that in mind.

He has 141 yards on 26 carries and 1 TD with sacks removed. Averages 5.4 Y/carry and has 2 fumbles, both lost.

Those stats are extremely skewed thanks to their two cupcake games against Ark State & ULM.

Game by game rushing yardage, not factoring sacks, for Sean White.

Clemson 4 carries 7 yards
Arkansas State 10 carries 62 yards
Texas A&M 8 carries 28 yards
LSU 6 carries 18 yards
ULM 6 carries for 27 yards
Miss State 4 carries 5 yards

Against Ark State & ULM he had 16 carries for 89 yards which is 5.56 ypc
Against Clemson, A&M, LSU, & Miss State he had 22 carries for 55 yards, which is 2.5 ypc.

He's not a serious running threat.

I think it will...just threatening the blitz can get guys on offense thinking too much especially if they audible and we drop put of it.

Also don't think it was any coincidence that we blitzed 4 times in the 1st half and 22 in the second. I think we worked on it all week and really let loose in the second half and it made a huge difference. That will definitely give Gustav something else to think about this week.

For the record, I wasn't threatened by those numbers. 5 yards per carry is great for RB who has 80+ carries. For a QB, I'd expect it closer to 10, purely because they tend to come after being in the pocket for 4+ seconds and all the DBs and LBs are halfway down the field.

DeltaBoy

We need to POP the Tigger 2 QB the first few times he runs that read option and take the starch out of him.
