Not much in P5 but a lot in G5.

"Revenues from the College Football Playoff are distributed to all conferences, with the "Group of Five" receiving $90 million in allotments of which $50 million is distributed evenly to the leagues, and the other $35 million is distributed to the five conferences based on regular season and post season performance. That ranking is determined by a combination of the six computer rankings that were used in the BCS era, combining to produce a collective ranking of each conference."

Instead of adding App St, Coastal Carolina, Georgia St and Georgia Southern the Sunbelt and CUSA west divison should have merged.

La Tech, Rice, UTSA, Sothern miss, North Texas comes back and UTEP.

Might happen some day because the current CUSA configuration was a failed effort to maximize TV dollars, and the current SBC  configuration for survival, but just like the P5's, in the G5 egos come into play.

It is expected that G5's (maybe with the exception of the AAC) will be forced to focus on regional competition to increase attendance, to compensate for the lost TV $, and that might  be the catalyst for change.

The good thing for A-State is that the SBC is now on par with  CUSA, and the MAC, and not far behind the MWC, and they have won championships, which has helped them grow their brand, and increase ticket sales for eight years in a row, so they are good to go regardless.

Did find this article where A-State AD Terry Mohajir commented:

"College football is all about regional rivalries" and "What's best for college football? It's games that your fans can attend. Fans can't travel to these games anymore."

"Ultimately, Arkansas State's Mohajir predicted, schools at this level will have to go back to the old financial model, where ticket sales and donations drive the majority of revenue, not TV"

"If you can't generate revenue from TV, you've got to do it through ticket sales and donations," Mohajir said. "And with few exceptions, the greatest rivalries are regionally based."

"Common sense has to prevail."

So it looks like Mohajir agrees.

You have a lot of programs ASU, Tulsa, SMU, Memphis, Southern Miss, La Tech, UAB, North Texas, ULL, ULM, Tulane, Rice, Houston and pick one more for 14 that would make a great regional conference.  It includes New Orleans, Memphis, Dallas, Houston TV markets also.

Hopefully, and there are some tangible reasons for hope( although admittedly slim at this point) , that the G5 Conferences will end-up being more regional, because it will be good financially for the schools, and create more true rivalries for the fans.

Again, the good thing for A-State is that they have their program to where most  G5 schools would not mind at all having them as a conference member, something that was not the case just a few years ago. There are still exceptions, but those are mostly schools in the AAC where  many of their members view their conference as P6  not a G5.
