Maybe you didn't know, maybe you forgot, or maybe you just thought it would be ok to make knee jerk comments around here. We've been pretty relaxed about it so far and find it easier just to remove the crap from the threads and keep the chatter about baseball.

But, as SEC play starts up and the others realize we have a baseball team, no doubt we will get our share of ridiculous nonsense from the gallery. So, let's just remind everyone right now that this forum is pure of the vile crap that goes on in jump ball. Too many people put too much into this to let it turn into a cess pool. So, here is how things will go from now on....

If you're active in a discussion throughout the game.....I'll tolerate some emotion. But if you show up here after the game and post "what an embarrassment"......it's gone.

Get a post removed, consider it a warning. Next step is a PM. After that, Wilson will make you read only for however long he sees fit.

We love discussion......just make it about logic and not emotion. JCVH made a post several weeks ago that was about as negative as you can be, but he used facts and logic. If there is a negative, talk about it. Everyone around here loves talking about the game if baseball....we will talk all night about it. Even if it's not happy and positive. But what we will not tolerate here is that jump ball mentality where you think it's cool to post "we suck" or "as usual" or other stuff.

We understand there are lots of expectations here. With the football and basketball team being a rough year, baseball is out for a big year. We look forward to a good season. Don't mess up the spirit of this board with your emotional vomit.

Seems you have to remind em every year... thanks for keeping it enjoyable. People that don't keep up with baseball don't understand how anyone can lose To anyone on any given night.

As I learned when I just started playing, baseball is a game played between your ears. Some players never get that...and some fans definitely don't.

You should see all the ridiculous comments on Facebook about yesterday's game. I think most of the people running their mouth never played competitively. You're going to lose games. It's baseball.

Thank You Guys.  Had to wade thru a lot BS. Just to keep up with the game yesterday.

After you get Hogville cleaned up, would you consider cleaning up the rest of the crap we have to deal with in this nation???

It seems to me that a fan should be someone who is generally positive about the team and the program.  For the life of me I can't understand some people's negative, even caustic attitudes and methods of expression.  Either you help build or you tear down.  It's pretty simple most of the time.  GHG, thanks to Wilson, SPAL, and all the OPs who keep EI what it is.

Exactly. Even a team that wins 100 games in MLB still loses 38% of the time.

As Sparky Anderson said... You're gonna win a third of you're games and your gonna lose a third of your games.  The difference is what you do with the other third.

Kinda glad Yogi Berra didn't say it, or the math would be way, way off!

Sometimes what do with the third in the balance is determined by what you do in those losses.  At least Kjerstad got cranking again, Fletcher got a couple of hits that might help him out of his slump and Loseke had an excellent outing.  Those are three important building blocks than could produce wins.

It's not even that we should be positive all the time. Just don't act like a complete jackwagon when we lose.

of course, spal, I know you are generally tolerant for emotion responses.  Haha, I did say "generally" positive.  Have I down through the years always agreed with DVH, nope.  I have disagreed on EI sometimes?  Yep, but I have always tried to weight my own comments by one standard, am I in balance helping build the team and the program, or are my actions and words in balance harming it.  Sometimes you (you third person, the fan) feel a need to point things out, I can buy that.  It make be a cultural thing with some of us. I am older, so are a lot of EI devotees, as opposed perhaps to jump ball or MMQB.  I dont know what the demographic difference is, but I know the conduct difference.

I hardly even go to those two boards anymore, its just not constructive for me to do so, I have better things to do with my time.

This is why I generally avoid the message boards after we lose in ANY sport. The emotional vomit and idiocy is just too much for me to tolerate. Needless to say, I hardly looked at any message boards during football season this year.

From Tusk Till Dawn

I enjoy baseball but enjoy football and basketball more.  So its my first time to this board, so just curious.  Why aren't the other boards ran this way?  The game threads can drive you nuts and you will get smited for being positive or standing up against player bashing?

SPAL

A little history lesson for those who just can't understand why the snow flake , power tripping, moderators get their feelings hurt over "perceived negativity."

Several years ago, this board was a cess pool in the same way jump ball was, just on a smaller scale. The game threads were a bunch of folks who thought WHIP was a dance move and ERA was a time period. Basically, guys like DavidR. But, lost in the chaos were some really good folks who lived baseball and enjoyed just talking about it. But, good conversation was swallowed up by nonsense.

So, I was brought in as a mod because someone took notice of the way I organized and worked the mlb baseball forum. Around the same time, Arkansas Traveler, otherwise known as Wilson Hog, or just Wilson ,had a vision to create a place where baseball folks could talk baseball as if we were were in the stands talking among friends over a beer. A place where we could just talk ball. Because we love the game and think it's the greatest game. So, we set some ground rules. Which basically was just the rules if hogville that applys to all boards.

At first, it was difficult because it was just the two of us and a couple of others and it didn't go over well. Folks didn't like having to act like adults. It's the same with society, or guys like DavidR, but I digress.

So year by year, change happened and people left. We added new mods that enhanced the board. People who literally sacrifice things to make this board what it is. The board actually polices itself because when someone posts stupid crap, the regulars call em on it. I don't have to moderate much anymore. What Wilson had envisioned many years ago, is what we have now.

So, does it bother me when DavidR thinks I'm a snowflake or trufelhog thinks I'm on a power Trip? Nah. I'm not losing any sleep over what some people who literally NEVER post here seem to think. We thrive on quality, not quanity. It's often said, we would rather have 20 people here with quality discussion than 200 people who just vomit on everything.

So, if DavidR and trufelhog don't care for the way this board operates.....✌

Very well said SPAL as well as others in the thread.  This is not a safe place, but would be like if we all got together at Foghorn's before the game for a beer then went to a section at Baum where we were all season ticket holders.  We love the game and enjoy talking about it with others.  That is what makes this forum so great.  That and the Hogs are typically very, very good.

As a newly converted hog fan, I've found this board a pleasure to read. This is a community of baseball fans, not just hog fans – in general there's a lot respect and love of the game in this digital watercooler.

Consider these boys are coming from HS or a juco (might only have 15 people in the stands, 2 of them are teammates charting pitches and the rest are parents). They go from that, to center stage with 12K in the stands, TV, newspapers and national online sports coverage. There's a lot of pressure to execute at a very high level with huge expectations and every success/failure is broadcasted, analyzed and rehashed. They are blessed for the opportunity, but it's far from easy - this board has always been supportive/respectful, and I believe that's the right approach.

Now if we can just get a few of the people in the ballpark to stop screaming "Just throw strikes!" when a pitcher is struggling. Like it's easy or they're purposely missing their spots? Maybe also, a rule that if you're more than 10 years older than an opposing player, personally insulting them comes with a beer poured in your lap...  lol!

You guys do a great job moderating this place.

pigture perfect

Count me in the column of those who agree with SPAL, AT and others who have posted about this forum. Hands down this is the most fun forum to be a part of. Even if we lose a game and are angry about it, we are required to be adult about it. We can be angry and not cross the line. I would say just the opposite of the poster who called SPAL a snowflake. It is the snowflake who melts down after a bad play or a loss. Folks, we have a legit Top 5 team right here. There is not that much to complain about. WPS and GHG.

well, I can assume (just like posting something positive of MMQB or jump ball will get you negative points, because I assume they dont want to hear that), posting in political forums will still get you blasted too.  Karma scores certainly dont mean everything to me, but it means one of two things, at least for me - It tells me if I am a little bit caustic or it tells me when too many in the forum are!  Anyway, I just didn't want to let the opportunity slide to tease you with your own words.  But I learned my lesson I think the first day on political forums pretty much like you did (or was it the first post!)

It's for all Arkansas baseball fans that follow the rules, I fail to see how that can't be comprehended.

I could tell you a long story about a man who simply didn't want to see - and of such a man who didn't see the evidence presented to him because he - in his own words said "I had my eyes closed -  but I suspect that while the story wouldn't be lost on you or most of the people here, it would be lost on some. Why?  because they simply dont want to see the point.  You can't educate people who's eyes are closed by their own biases.  It as simple as that.

That's not holier than thou or any such thing to make that point, its just a reflection of the times.

Judging from the amount of pm I received in support of my view point you are wrong.

I may have a different prospective as a former player's parent. I appreciated that caustic humor and disrespectful venting toward players is removed. My kid had a few difficult outings last year, and fortunately it worked itself out (that doesn't always happen). Some of the things said about him and other players who have made errors or struggled during last season was a bit disappointing coming from the fan base (quickly removed). I'm following the Longhorns as well this this season (starting catcher is a friend's son), and the most active Texas board is full of slamming players - It's says something that Hog baseball fans take a different approach.

JHicks3636

I love this forum because I love the Hogs and I love baseball. It honored me to be made a Moderator but I'm pretty useless at it. All season I have deleted one post, not because anything was wrong with it in content, it was just more or less a duplicate post. I've modified a couple including one I just screwed up worse. My only disagreement from a personal standpoint is about karma. At the present time someone on the board is seeing fit to target at least some mods and other posters with negative karma. Since your karma count doesn't really define your life I guess it's no big deal. It is a little perturbing and I wish they would identify the person and ban them, or turn the karma off again.

As for Wednesdays game, best thing to do sometimes is just step away.  The team as a whole did not play well other than 2 players and sometimes that just happens in baseball.  I don't think that was the case, I think we just over looked them.  Hopefully the players learn that you can't look past anyone.
