They want to rehash the glory days. Unfortunately for them and many those days no longer exist.

The blood tone of the program, banners, tradition, facilities, and all the things that mattered before 2020 no longer apply to 90 percent of the athletes.

A program like Mizzou can be terrible but sign an incredible transfer and freshman class because NIL trumps all other measurables. Adapt or die, and the old mega-programs still want the front of the jersey to matter when it generally does not.

For every top recruit that is program proud, there are 9 that do not care. Building a championship-level team with all-in athletes is a thing of the past. The coaches must be capable of selling them so that they can make them next-level ready as well as have the resources to pay them top-tier NIL.

Being Kentucky or Duke or North Carolina only gets you so far any more.

Quote from: Deep Shoat on April 17, 2024, 10:15:14 pmThis ISN'T a regular business.  Some of the greatest coaches in the games history took a decade to build what they needed.  Arkansas will almost certainly have to give someone that kind of time if we ever want to compete again.

You guys are so short sighted.  Changing coaches every few years is how we ended up having to hire a career assistant in the first place.

I don't think that changing head football coaches "every few years" is the problem, but rather a symptom of the problem. And that problem is making bad to terrible choices when choosing head coaches, resulting in the inevitable hire/fire cycle.

Quote from: tophawg19 on Today at 11:57:47 amThat would give us a lot of 4's to split playing time. Doing paper work binds us but not them. However I could see that as a recruiting tool. You need to commit now to save your spot or someone will take it. Guards are what I want to see most. Show me the shooters
Say we get all of those dudes, which I don't think we get both Aidoo and Garrison, but anyway:

PG: Wagner/Fland
SG:Davis
SG/SF:Knox/Richmond
SF:White
SF/PF:Burks
PF/C:Big Z
C:Aidoo/Garrison

Thats a heck of a roster.

QuoteSaban may have retired from coaching college football, but the former Alabama Crimson Tide leader was around the game on Thursday.

Andy Staples and Phillip Dukes, who couldn't get enough of Saban's insight

"Saban was awesome," Staples prefaced. "And how about when Quinyon Mitchell gets picked, he goes, 'We wanted him out in the portal, but he wouldn't go into the portal.'"

Even thought (sic) Dukes is a proclaimed Auburn Tigers guy, he has a ton of respect:

"Hey, man, I love Coach Saban. You know I'm an Auburn guy, but Coach Saban is good. And then that moment was so real to me, because they knew. And then all the when he talked about guys that he actually had the game plan against, like hearing him talk about the game plan for Jayden Daniels you just say and, 'I was just looking up at the ceiling at night. He had me shook.' Hearing Nick Saban kind of humanize himself, that was so cool to me."
