Quote from: southarkhog06 on Yesterday at 11:21:39 pmsure I think we would all like a top 5 offense every year, but no one accomplishes that. We loaded up on pitching this year and the bats haven't lived up to the hype. Other teams are blowing late leads and wondering why they can't have reliable bullpen arms like us. My issue is the constant "coach is overrated" talk.

Without looking, I'd guess Tennessee has had a top 5 offense every year since TV got there except maybe year 1. And he had 1/100th of the program to recruit to that we do.

Kentucky isn't blowing late leads. They are maybe a top 50 program in the country and they're ranked in the top 5.

And I don't think any coach is "overrated." I'd take DVH any day and twice on Sunday over 99.9% of college coaches right now. But the more I watch, the more I want TV when he retires because at least he'll put a good lineup out there, and he's had some really good pitchers to go with it. I've soured a bit on NT, as you can probably tell though. It's less the approach, which I'm typically find with, than the results, which have been frustrating to say the least.

Quote from: RagingHawgOn on Yesterday at 11:27:21 pmThe ESPN announcer was a Debbie Downer about that crowd 😂 I hated listening to that guy.

I wish I could listen to Phil and Bubba synced with the stream.  I'm too dang old to figure all that out.

The broadcast duo not good. Whined about strikes in the 9th.

Quote from: AHiD on Yesterday at 11:16:35 pmAloy was very highly in demand. I would expect him to be Kjerstadt good next year.

Aloy's come a long way with his bat since the start of the season.
Souza doesn't appear to be near as confident at the plate on the road. Hopefully he can get that figured out.

I have a feeling they will be due to go cold right about that time and a few posters will look a bit foolish lol

At least I hope that's the case

I've been thinking about it and I've come to a conclusion: It's better to strand 14 runners and win 2-1 than to strand 4 runners and lose 9-6.

Quote from: Razrpig256 on Yesterday at 10:43:33 pmI mean that's fair but none of those guys really have any business starting in an SEC lineup, especially not at an elite program. Would Tennessee or Texas A&M even recruit any of those guys? No. Just like we wouldn't recruit some of their pitchers because we have a higher standard.

I think that's a DVH thing, not a CNT thing. We recruit really really well, but I think our hitting prospects are disproportionately guys whose tools we like but who we know can play defense. An example—I don't think we would have given Tommy Tanks the time of day, especially not to play 3B, because of truly awful defense

Quote from: Razrpig256 on Yesterday at 11:14:34 pmWho are you referring to? I know we were final 2 on Skenes and missed.

I know there's a catcher we wanted last year who ended up going pro which left us with Polk, Rowland, and Kilgore. We could've had a shot at Mac Guscette but somehow lost out on him to Alabama, who already had Tamez at the time while we had zero (0) catchers. Meanwhile, he's started two straight years for them and put up much better numbers than really all of our catchers combined.

Coll ended up being a miss, which forced us to start Bolton most of the year as well.

At some point, you either have to recruit and develop young talent or land a big fish or two in the portal (or develop them) if you want to have a good offense. We really haven't done much of either. Aloy is the closest thing we have landed, and he's no White, Montgomery, Amick, etc.

I don't know the answer. I just know I look around the league and wonder how these lesser programs end up with better offenses than us. I get we won't be the best at everything, but a top 5 SEC offense isn't too much to ask, I don't think.

Quote from: southarkhog06 on Yesterday at 11:01:11 pmgchamblee, Factchecker and SPAL. Though I guess it isn't fair to put SPAL in there since I think it wasn't posters but rather the stress of feeling personally responsible for the quality of the board.

Hmm. From what I remember of gchamblee, he wasn't really a baseball guy. Asked a lot of questions and usually appreciated the responses. I saw him on other boards which are much worse than this one so I'm a bit perplexed how it was EI that ran him off, but alright.

FC seemed like a normal poster most of the time but would occasionally just lay into someone. I usually just ignore that stuff unless it's self-defense. I don't really remember ever interacting with him directly. Didn't know he really had a problem with anyone.

Quote from: ucahogfan on Yesterday at 06:57:02 pmA&M is on an absolute heater at the plate right now.  The offense is good, but it isn't average 11 runs a game against SEC competition good.  Eventually the bats will cool down for a couple of weekends.  Pitching has only had to be average because the offense has been so good.

Let's hope they cool off before we head to College Station.
