Was hoping he would go to the Rockets.  Thought he would have fit in good with their style.

I hope Bobby didn't make a mistake!!!

The Rockets would be a terrible fit for him.     And no- he didn't make a mistake.

No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

22 to the bulls would make me happy... shocked he's fallen this far.

Only problem with that is he would sit behind Gasol.  I want to see him go somewhere that compliments his skills and needs them with other good players in other positions.

They also have Mirotic, who he'd largely replicate offensively.  I think Portland may pick him, to offset the loss of Aldrich.

There will be guys drafted above this point that will be in bad situations and go to the D League or Europe. All I can hope for BP is that he gets a guaranteed deal and it is the best possible situation for him personally.

All 1st round picks are 3 year guaranteed deals.

This doesn't bode well for us getting Monk.
I have 10 to 12 points to make per game.

Depends on where he goes, at this point. I was in the camp he wasn't make a mistake. At this point, his slot value will be no better than about $1.1million/year.

If he came back, had a similar season, he would likely go top 15, with a slot value of $1.6m/yr. Over the course of his rookie contract he could have made potentially $1.5m more before taxes. Obviously he would have 1 less year of making money, but would have probably made more by waiting. The salary slot value drops below $1million/yr after the Cavs at #24. Obviously he can get more than that, but he no doubt has lost some money.

Not relevant, at all. Monk is a top 5 player in the country right now. He will be a lottery pick if he puts in the work.

Money that is more than made up by getting out from under the rookie scale wage a year earlier.

They played taj and miro(sp?) A lot last season. Pau and Noah will be injured at some point during the season

Aaron Harrison was almost the exactly rank a Monk #1 2 Guard and 6 Overall went to UK and will almost certainly go undrafted. IMO that will have a bigger impact on Monk than where Portis went.

Selected by Chicago, but probably gets traded.

I agree with Erie on the prospect of Portis getting traded.

I'd do the same. LaRussa's a nutjob and would probably throw at his head.

Congratulations to Bobby. Minus injury, he'll have a good NBA career.

I got questioned pretty good by a few posters all along when I said Portis would be better waiting.  However, I could have just as easily have been wrong and he been drafted higher.  As for him making up the money with free agency earlier, that is not guaranteed either.  Lots of opinions and too many variables to say who is right and wrong.

What is right is that a really great player, person, and Razorback was drafted, is guaranteed a contract that sets him up for life if he manages it well, and everybody can be happy for him and wish him well.  Congrats and best of luck bobby Portis.

Exactly. I have no opinion whether it was a good idea or not by Portis. I hope he got his degree personally. It's easy to say he will get his 3rd or 4th year. But truth is you just never know.

And the thing about coming back is there is no guarantee that you get drafted into a better situation next year. You just never know. I think he came out at the right time, and everyone that came across him that covers the NBA had nothing be great things to say about him. Many have said he'll have a long NBA career due to his attitude and motor. Impossible to say what happened on draft night to make him slide a little (compared to what the consensus was going in), but things are likely extremely fluid on draft night. The Bulls took the best player on the board (in their opinion) and will figure the rest out later. The thing Bobby has in his favor here, even despite the players ahead of him in that rotation, is that he plays extremely hard, works extremely hard, and has a fierce desire. It's almost impossible to not play players like that.

Hawg Red

Also, I couldn't care less at this point about his degree. He can come back at any time and get that, and he's not going to be entering the traditional workforce anytime soon anyway. If the worst case happens and he somehow finds himself out of the NBA, he would KILL in Europe. Kill. He's stated that he'll "absolutely" come back and get his degree, but he need not concern himself with that right now.

Reading a Chicago site, they seem to prefer trading Noah or Gibson and keeping Portis.

Yep. Gasol, Noah and Gibson have all been the subject of trade rumors since the season ended. At least one of them figures to be gone by the start of the season. Probably in exchange for a 2-guard or simply salary cap relief.

I think you got it backward- it is more likely they trade Taj Gibson- he costs more and he has more value in a trade (that is if Bobby shows well in preseason and they feel he can be a replacement). In addition Gibson is a defense first guy- the Bulls (and everyone else) like hard working players on defense but the Bulls are looking for more scoring and Portis may make more sense for them vs. Gibson for that reason regardless of other factors. As far as the Gasol thing- Pau probably has two more years in the league. Portis might become a good rotation player in the NBA and Chicago got lucky getting him at 22. I suspect they know that.

I wouldn't say he slid. I think those guys in hte mid teens to low 20's can almost bet to go a few spots higher than they thought. A lot of unknown Euro guys end up getting looks and GM's want to take a chance hoping they get one that actually turns into a Dirk or someone like that. When I hard 17 I was thinking 20's for just that reason. His stock didn't really shoot up and was just consistent as is Bobby's game. He doesn't WOW folks, but he has a consistency to his game that many GM's respect.
