Jump Ball / Re: Jerry JonesLast post by Oklahawg - Today at 06:36:45 pmQuote from: Dark Helmet Hog on Today at 04:14:04 pmIt's not a personal attack. I don't doubt for a second you have been told what you say. I do doubt the validity of the information. I don't see how a school from a major conference would take a 62 year old coach with a 23-25 overall and 11-23 conference record. SEC or not, those are not good numbers. And the trend has been down for 2 years with some head scratching performances throughout. Gundy almost retired a year ago. NIL and the portal had totally worn him out. At that point, OSU was getting killed in both. They were looking for a coach who seemed to have the portal mastered and they liked the "recruiting on steroids" mindset. Gundy has always had a strong eye for potential but it requires time in the system for development. The portal compromises that. The second source told me that Gundy was revitalized when we talked last fall, but that he could see him riding into the sunset after the season ("his ego will want him to go out on top, and we still see Pittman as a short-lister to replace him, altering the mindset within the program of how you win.") I put that in quotes. It might be precisely correct but I was struck by the certainty of it. Then, knowing the parents of a couple of OSU players (at the time) I was able to pick up on the rumor a second way ("we were told if Gundy retires we will land a standing P4 HC who takes recruiting seriously and knows how to work the portal"). That does not mention Pittman (this guy doesn't know my UA fandom, I don't think). Again, the bigger issue isn't the details of high-ranking money people at OSU. We know how that works for high-ranking money people at UA. It won't be that different from school to school, most of the time. They do get insights though that are bought by their donations. An OU player we chased hard a few years back continues to consider leaving OU with UA as the destination. The problem isn't NIL or Pittman or the future of the UA program. Its that (while he's a starter at OU on defense) UA has told him he would have to compete for 2nd team status at UA. That probably flies in the face of conventional wisdom on HV. Thanks to those who took the posts at face value. You are already a step ahead of the echo chamber folks. 4

Aces require focus and sometimes they lose focus. 9
