Another cool tool from CBS sports, the Jerry "Palm Reader". Tells you what needs to happen for your team's RPI to improve.

Latest from Joe:

Cincinnati an 11?  They are 51, 51, 55 in RPI, BPI, and Sagarins.

BYU a 12?  They are 39, 25, 33.  Which puts them in the late 9 early 10 range.

The NIT says the "first four teams out" of the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship field will be the top-seeded teams in the 2015 NIT.

So as of this morning, Davidson, Illinois, UCLA and Texas would be top 4 seeds in NIT, per @ESPNLunardi

I hope we stay in the East bracket. I think the team will feel much more comfortable going to Jacksonville than freaking Portland.

Last time we were a 4 seed in the East, 1993, we lost a close game to eventual national champion North Carolina in the sweet 16.

Geography vs balance... http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/eye-on-college-basketball/25094087/bracketology-geography-and-balancing-the-bracket ...

QuoteWhen it comes to slotting teams in the bracket though, geography is the driving force. It always has been. It doesn't get talked about as much though unless there is a dominant team like we have this year.

It has never been the goal of the committee to snake the field. Ever. It's nice if it works that way, but they aren't going to needlessly ship teams cross-country just to snake the bracket.

After placing the top four seeds for each region in the bracket, the committee will add up the 1-16 rankings for the teams in each region to check for balance. Perfect balance would be a total of 34 in each region. That never happens. Their guideline is to have the difference between the toughest and easiest be no greater than 5. But that is just a guideline. A couple years ago, one region added up to 38 and another added up to 30.

It is more likely that the conference separation rule will mess with geographic placement in the bracket than a desire for balance.

I never do a bracket that doesn't meet the guideline.

Geography drives the bracket further down as well, except for seeds 5 and below, it's about pods instead of regions...

We were actually a 4-seed in 1999. Beat Siena and then lost by ten points to Iowa. I hope Mike's teams are better than Nolan's later teams that made the NCAA. We crapped out pretty quickly in his later years in March Madness.

Hogs are a 4 seed and FWIW assigned to the East.

SEC with six teams in including A&M in the last 4 in.

LSU is "in for now" and A&M is "on the fence".  The rest appear to be locks.

No SEC team has "work to do" to get in except win four or five straight in Nashville.

The two RPI's that are updated have us both moving up to 16 after last night's win....above Oklahoma, by the way, that Lunardi has as the 4 seed and us as the 5 seed.

Still too early and more basketball to play to know exactly who is what and where.

A 5 seeds seems about right. I think a 4 is our max, unless we win out and go all the way to the SEC Championship game and play Kentucky close, we might squeeze up to a 3.

#1-4: 1 seeds
#5-8: 2 seeds
#9-12: 3 seeds
#13-16: 4 seeds
#17-20: 5 seeds
#21-24: 6 seeds

We'll destroy Indiana or temple.

Indiana is not bad.  Why in the world would they be a 12 Seed and a "Last 4 in" team.  They have 4 top 50 wins and only 1 bad loss.  Played a ton of top 50 RPI teams this year.  I'm an SEC supporter, but I'd take their resume over TAM and LSU any day of the week.

Just watched that game. Unbelievable.

Conference post season tourneys are stupid with as big an overall tourney as there is and with as many regular season conference games as teams play. Murray State finished undefeated and five games ahead of the next closest team in the OVC, and isn't going dancing.

I am always ready for Hog Ball!

The football season has no bearing on my excitement for basketball season to begin.

I know I'm in the minority, but I rank Hog basketball above Hog football every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Has a lot to do with the era in which I grew up, but for me personally there is just nothing better than watching the Hogs run up and down the court!
Woo Pig Sooiee!  Can't wait for the season to tip off.  I'm hoping for a much more competitive team this season.
