Since just the BPI rankings raise some issues and just the RPI's raise some, also, I took RPI and BPI rankings and added them up.  BPI has a history of a little better accuracy than the RPI, so I gave its rankings a little more weight.  *I moved the BPI decimal over 2 spots to get things similar. Example: A BPI ranking of 78.9 becomes .7890

Does it mean anything?  Hell, no.  But it's that time of year.  I may update each week, but I plan to see how it compares to the seeding come tournament time.

BPI plus RPI becomes BRPI or "The Burpies"

Interesting.

I'd be interested to see these blended with the AP and Coaches polls.

Before I type out anything else, I'll just note here that I get it.  You are just having some fun with the ratings indexes.

But...

BPI already incorporates RPI's methodology and then includes in a few other factors.  Dividing the BPI calculation by 100 so you can add the RPI calculation  with a similar decimal notation is a meaningless metric.

It would be like taking a measurement of joules and comparing it to a measurement of amps by dividing the joules by whatever power of 10 that would match it to the amps decimal notation.  First, there is no point since joules already incorporate amps within its calculation, but then when you arbitrarily assign it a decimal place you render the original number meaningless.

As I said, that's just not how this stuff works, and I'm by no means a mathamalogical like person.

Not sure I understand us being behind Georgia (or SMU).

Here's what we're looking at:

-Arkansas has a better overall record
-They have a same conference record
-Arkansas has more top 25 and top 50 wins
-Arkansas beat Georgia on the road
-Arkansas has no sub-100 losses (Georgia has one)

What gives?

You are assuming BPI incorporates RPI and then adds to it.  Maybe it does but espn is not telling.  So until a formula is published....I'm gonna have some fun, whoopie.

It took some figuring to get all polls to have a maximum value of 1 and to make sure the weighting of each ranking corresponded to each other.  Sorry about the formatting.  I copied from an Excel file.

So here is AP, COACHES, RPI, AND BPI together.

Not sure I understand us being behind Georgia (or SMU).

Here's what we're looking at:

-Arkansas has a better overall record
-They have a same conference record
-Arkansas has more top 25 and top 50 wins
-Arkansas beat Georgia on the road
-Arkansas has no sub-100 losses (Georgia has one)

What gives?

Fuzzy math, at best.

We have been orbiting each other in the polls all year.

Nice info. If the AQ's held, we'd be 4-0 against same, with a matchup against UK still to play.

Likewise, 6-3 against seeded teams, with LSU, TAMU, and UK still to go.

+1 to you man.  Whether this means anything or not, it's creative and I appreciate the effort to bring something new to the board.

thanks. It's a work in progress.  each week I try to improve the process.  its an attempt to guess what the selection committee is looking at. it equalizes some of the wild ranking swings you see as you go down the lists.

the AP & Coaches polls seem to be important

BPI is ESPN's attempt to include victory margins and injury impacts into the equation.

sagarin has been around forever, so I'm guessing his numbers are looked at.

RPI (and this is NCAA RPI) gets a little more weight in the formula because it is king.

The AQ's right now are based on conference rankings at the end of each week.

Beating aTm was huge.

With last nights win, we jumped 5 spots, to 14, in Lunardis RPI.  We had dropped 1 spot after beating Misstake.

NCAA RPI has not been updated yet.

BPI we jumped 2 spots to 20.

Sagarins - 26: We didn't move a spot, but did pick up a few points.  By beating Wisconsin, Maryland moved up 3 spots to settle in behind us at 27.

I find it funny that Mich St. is ahead of us in the BPI.  How is that possible with their complete and utter lack of big wins (2 in the top 50 and none better than 30 Indiana) and massively awful losses (Nebraska and Texas Southern)?  If they didn't have the name, they wouldn't be in tourney conversation.

Who knows?

It's apparent they don't think much of the sec, even though our sos is rated higher.
