Reddies Show Solid Effort in Loss to Arkansas State

Henderson State put forth a valiant effort but Arkansas State was able to pull away late in the first half as the Red Wolves beat the Reddies 90-76 in exhibition men's basketball, Saturday in Jonesboro, Ark.

The Reddies, 4-4 on the season, led by as many as seven points in the first half as Henderson opened the game with three straight 3-point field goals by Josh Jones, Kaylon Tappin, and Tanner Hamilton.

Henderson led until a Deven Simms long-range jumper at the 3:48 mark to put Arkansas State 32-29, a lead the Red Wolves would never relinquish. ASU finished the half with a 9-0 run to build a 44-34 advantage at the break.

Arkansas State would hold a double-digit lead for the entire second half as the Red Wolves connected on 18-of-30 shots in the final 20 minutes for 60 percent shooting.

Henderson matched ASU for most of the half with the Red Wolves outscoring the Reddies by just four points in the half 46 to 42.

Jones led Henderson in scoring with 16 points, with Tappin adding 14 points. Eric Dailey finished the contest with 11 points while Hamilton totaled 10.

Henderson finished the game shooting 45 percent from the field making 26 of 58 attempts while also making 17 of 18 free throws for 94 percent from the charity stripe.

ASU shot 54 percent from the floor on 34 of 63 shooting with Grantham Gillard leading the way with 23 points.

The Reddies will next play host to Ecclesia on Saturday, Dec. 16 at the Duke Wells Center with tip-off set for 2 p.m.
