Name a college qb that would have been just as good at Vandy as they were their school that didn't have some success in the NFL.

Lamar's 2nd season as a starter, his completion percentrage improved from 54.7 to 56.2%. He isn't even threatening to hit 60% completion. Look at the game log for the past season. Padded stats against bad teams, did poorly against good teams. He has a very strong arm for sure. However, a strong arm doesn't make somebody a good passer. You need consistency and accuracy which is something that Jackson still doesn't have after 25 starts.

...but espn highlights show....

Notice he says your boy instead of "our coach". Very telling.

I'm not worried. If he recruits like he did here Louisville will fire him in about 5 years.

This thread makes my head hurt.

Had went for 450 combined vs Clemson and 350 vs FSU. Are those bad teams? He also completed 65% of his passes, Saturday.

Mallett has not had a better NFL career than Tebow. How many playoff games has Mallett started? Tebow would still be in the league, if there wasn't  a circus following him everywhere.

When was the last time a team beat Alabama, what you have to do to win the SEC, without a running threat at QB?

Clemson defense didn't slow too many people down last season. He averaged almost 400 yards per game. So, yeah, he did poorly with his yards against the likes of FSU, and especially Houston and then LSU.

Your statement on Tebow's NFL success shows just how little you know about qb play in the NFL. Not even worth spending the time to prove you wrong there.

The answer to your question depends on how much a person has to be a threat. Bo Wallace did it and he ran a 5.09 forty at his pro day, but still managed some success running the ball. Stephen Garcia was the last to beat Bama without having any running impact.

Based on LJ's past, he is much, much better suited for WR in the NFL than QB. Think of a Terrel Pryor or Matt Jones but smaller. Pryor tried to play QB in the NFL without success, and switched to receiver and has had pretty good success so far. Jackson's passing to date is not going to land him a starting gig in the NFL save for a team that is desperate, and then, not for very long. I watched a decent portion of his game last week vs purdue and so far, I stand by that. Guy has an absolute rocket for an arm and can sling it with the best of them and no question he has NFL level athleticism. However, his decision making was not good, he struggled to use touch, and he showed very inconsistent accuracy.

With the push for athletic qb's in the NFL, I have no doubt some team would give him a shot, particularly if he improves. He's certainly a better passer than the Marshall kid from Auburn who transitioned to CB. However, passing is king and his passing ability is lacking.

I'll conceede LJ is probably a NFL WR, but to say he preformed "poorly" vs FSU is just idiotic.

Its because you can't make a comparison. A career backup vs a guy who has led a team to the playoffs. I'm not arguing Tebow has more skills than Mallett, but he absolutely had a better career.

Oregon has offered Burks

May be the best player to come out of Warren.

Size. Speed. Hands. Plays mean on defense.

Refs had to call a personal foul on him last night because he manhandled some poor Dumas kid.

LA Football fan

Has an Arkansas high school player ever scored a rushing td, passing td, pick 6 td, and a punt return td before?  I would think that is a very rare combination.

He deserves it! Treylon Burks is the truth. He's a touchdown just waiting to happen. He's scored on punt returns, kick returns, interception returns, running the wildcat, passing, and catching. Even tonight he has almost single-handedly defeated Monticello.  I hope that he ends up at Fayetteville.

I just don't  understand the lack of coverage this  state is giving Burks.  It is obvious he  is the most talented player in the state, bar none.   Makes plays all over the field knowing the opponents are double and triple teaming him at WR.   He could start right now for the Hogs at WR, Punt returner, and kickoff return as a junior in high school.  The sports media in this state needs to get out of LR and start sending  some crews down to get his highlights on tape and on tv.  They are missing out on a once in a decade type athlete.  He just seems to make it look so easy.  Has an extra gear that just separates him from his peers.  Breaks tackles with ease.  Just a complete player.  With intense coaching could probably be unstoppable as a qb.  Can throw a football 60-70 in the air on a rope.  Could play WR, Safety, OLB, and QB in D1 with ease.

It might help to sign him if  the sports media actually paid some attention to him.  All their focus remains on central arkansas teams and players and nwa teams and players.   This has been a continuing problem getting athletes down in  south arkansas media coverage out of Little Rock.  Seems as if these athletes are just an afterthought until signing day and then they expect them to just fall in line and commit to the state program.  How many highlights has anybody seen of Bohannon from East Arkansas?  How many have you seen of Burks??  Burks has scored tds from the wr position, qb position, linebacker position, punt return, and kickoff return the last three weeks and not a word from Fearless Friday or the
high school sports coverage media.  Bohannon has a 15 page thread about getting him signed and I have yet to see ANY highlights of him during Fearless Friday coverage or the tv sports coverage.  Someone on the hill needs to be prodding these sports coverage teams to start covering the athletes they need to sign to be successful in the SEC.  These athletes need to be seen by ALL of Arkansas and not just their local area residents.

It isn't the local news responsibility to cover areas out of the normal 30-50 mile area. Most sports department send someone out to cover games between their 6 and 10 news.

Warren has had plenty of athletes get plenty of coverage.  Burks might be the best of all of them.  Gotta remember, Warren is about 1:45 from LR - thats a long way to go to cover a football game and get back in time for the late news.  Believe me, plenty of people know about Burks.

Not too worried about LSU.  They have a pitiful passing attack and Burks would be running jet sweeps all game.

Have heard it will most likely be between Arkansas and LSU for his services. He visited LSU last weekend against Arkansas.

This is why the Hogs need Malzahn and Horton back on the Hill. They are already familiar with Burks and the kid from Jonesboro.
