(and thank you for this board and my use of it).

Spring is here, and if you have a 'sun facing' porch, trot out to the Lowes / Home Depot / anywhere to get a couple of whiskey barrel halves (or the like).  Great for a few veggies, perhaps some flowers alongside --- very little maintanence and the kid may just love to help! 

Fresh tomatoes*, peppers, etc. are always wonderful .... and healthy!

* To stay on the budget and still stake the tomatoes, use hubby's golf club(s) --- he could not hit them well anyway!
