When CBB came her 5 years ago I had hoped he would build a line similar to that of Wisc.
However, I think he got off track a little and started playing players sooner than I hoped.
Maybe He was pushed to win too early.
Skipper, Ragnow, Kirkland,Froholdt, and now Clary all starting or having significant playing time as Freshmen instead of redshirting.
Presently we have 19 O-linemen, 5 freshmen*, 3 redshirt freshmen*, 3 redshirt sophmores*, 3 redshirt juniors*, 2 juniors*, 3 seniors*. There is one starter in each class indicated by*. It seems if things continue we won't be seeing any large changes each year losing only one player. The question is will these players develop into SEC caliber players?
We have three players starting, Clary, Jackson, and Gibson, and 4 other Freshmen that I may classify as Anderson players. Are they the hope for the future?
Hog fan since 1960. So thankful for Sam Pittman.

it hasn't been there lately. Since that's what he has hung his hat on it better improve fast.

Hasn't, but is. We finally have depth. I hope it will sustain.

Another O-Line thread? Couldn't just post in the ones that have already been posted?

Good thread.

I actually thought we were set at OL this year. I think we are actually in trouble now. We are going to need a new offensive line coach to salvage next year imo.

I imagine there will continue to be OLine threads until we actually hire a great OLine coach instead of one that so far has failed to produce. It is what it is. Dude was a complete unknown with 7games exp. And we hired him to coach the absolute most important position on the team! I don't know how many times that can be emphasized! The absolute most important position we hire a complete unknown with basically ZERO recruiting exp. There's a reason we are having OLine problems! As for those who would question who we would hire... go down the list of top 30 OLine coaches/recruiters and any one of those would have been better. Offer them whatever it would have taken to get them to come to Arkansas. I mean, this is the MOST IMPORTANT POSITION COACH ON THE TEAM! So,, yeah, I have a big problem with Anderson. I don't cared if he "seems "like a good coach, or if he seems like a good technician teacher.. I want someone who has already PROVED many years that they are among the best at this position coach! Again, it is the fricking most important position coach for a Bielema team/offense! How the he'll do we even begin to have took a chance here. That is the biggest head scratch hire under Bielema! And I'm a Bielema guy. But Anderson was a very bad hire!
Basketball is back, baseball always, football was a dumpster fire once again..... but as the phoenix rose from the ashes, BMF Petrino has risen again!!! Lots to look forward to.

As the rain falls, I realize, that some where out there, some one, is wearing a mask while they shower............

What I've seen in the past is they are all gassed in 2nd half.

I don't see gassed... I see a crap ton times infinity of missed blocks. But heck I'm clueless.

jvanhorn

The Hogs probably still do own Arkansas, but nothing like they used to. Just like the St. Louis Cardinals still own Arkansas , but nothing like they used to. Being able to see just about any game you want by any team you want changed all that. You head toward eastern Arkansas you will see plenty of Hogs, but also a lot of Red Wolves, Memphis Tigers, Ole Miss. Even OU has some fans in Ft. Smith and Siloam Springs. You will still see plenty of Cardinal fans but also a lot of Royals, Cubs and Ranger hats.

What do you think would solve this problem you're seeing JC? I little crank or speed balls?....
A couple female midgets, a few bottles of Wild Irish Rose, and a room at the Trout Inn...... who knows what may happen.....

woodrow hog call

I don't think it will be sustainable, I'm betting he has to replace some guys every three to four years.

A truly sustainable OL needs years of competition augmented by recruiting blended with a really goood walkon program.. local kids grinding the bigger stars.. a group like a CMA team ten deep with 3 and 4 stars.. not there yet but I think/hope that's what CBB is trying to do with Dan 's type " recruits" the last 2 years.. looks like a talented group with red shirt years.. Competition over several years builds sustainable OL's.. with 3rd/4th/5th year players..

Only thing sustainable Bielema's building at Arkansas is a retirement account.

I can see how you would say that..one thing for sure the story is told every week and the end of this chapter is very near.. we'll know all we need over the next 12 weeks... if a next year is in the cards or not.. we shall see soon.. not sure I really like where we are...

crank be cheaper than that damn buyout.

I wouldn't want to sustain what we have now but the last couple of years indicate we probably will. :(

5 years, who thinks this is a great line? What, if anything, has Brett said that is actually true?

The answer is Yes-ish. Keep in mind the margins here are razor thin, as well; Kirkland, one of his first recruits, was to anchor things for four years at an interior guard slot, but then had to shift to OT; when it ill suited him, he left early, and we had to flip tackles to try to make up the blind side protection lost.

Its as much an art as a science, to develop OL depth. We've not had a great deal of good fortune there, the past few years.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

First four seasons I was the model optimistic Bielema supporter and have always been a Razorback fan, now I'm just a Razorback fan. Zero word of this O line struggling as a unit preseason, sad to say the true state of the position group was as much a surprise to Bielema as it is to the fans. I hope the O line gets rolling, because there's nothing worse for any fan than watching their team's offense when it isn't.

If BB doesn't know what to do as far as training an O-line, how can he hire a decent coach to train the line. That is his favorite position. He should be out there assuring the oline is trained right, conditioned right and instructed about the upcoming game right. I think its called LAZY. I believe he has a huge case of LAZY.

And I believe you have a huge case of ignorance. I think it's called ignorance when you don't have all the information like seeing what meetings CBB is in, what he is doing during practice or what he does in his office. CBB is proving his is nothing but a mediocre coach but to call him lazy is.... Ignorant.

don't you think we're a different OL style than we were year 1 and 2.. Enos likes a different type.. we run a different system now.. more fineness.. not road grader..

Not really; especially when you consider the rules refinements regarding blocking below the waist last year, and the emphasis they now place on it. We loved doing it with motion men in the past, and we can't do that any more.

The rest is a mixture of talent and consistency.

If we were building a sustainable OL it wouldn't look like it does in year 5. I think it's a jumbled mess. Let's see what happens against A&M. If we crush them on the ground for 200-300 yards I'll change my mind. But I'm afraid we are going to continue to see similar problems.

We still seem to struggle with our identity as a team. Are we a run first or pass first team these days? I couldn't even tell you that for sure...that should be easy to answer.
Thanks for the F Shack.

We can't get 1 yard if the game depended on it, and it has at times. But, Bret is like motho and will win some he shouldn't.

I agree, Chaney's run game was more finesse than road grader. RB's have to wait for blocks now like they did then. More of Enos's playbook may require a more mobile O line and we are lighter there.

Its been exactly like that for decades. As the state grows and economy expands, we are going to recruit working talent from close proximity cities. Hogs are overwhelming favorites, but never going to be 100%
