Arkansas basketball vs. Houston: Preview, TV, how to watch

Quote7:30 p.m. ET (6:30 CT) on Saturday, December 2 ESPN

Razorbacks beat projected NCAA Tournament team Oklahoma last week and also have wins over hopeful-bubble team Fresno State and the projected Patriot League champs Bucknell.

Houston would immediately vault to Arkansas' second most impressive win in the early going. The Cougars were not highly thought of entering the season, picked just sixth in the American Athletic Conference behind UConn, which Arkansas blasted by almost 40 points last week.

Arkansas is favored by four points in Las Vegas.

This game marks Arkansas' fourth consecutive away from home. It's the first time in 11 years the Razorbacks have played four in a row out of the Natural State.

That's a nice win for UCF in Tuscaloosa. Held Collin Sexton without a field goal and John Petty (2-9 FG) in check.

Beyond the arc: 3 takeaways from No. 5 Florida's 83-66 loss to rival FSU http://www.gatorsports.com/2017/12/beyond-arc-3-takeaways-no-5-floridas-83-66-loss-rival-fsu ... via @GatorSports.com

Quote— Florida coach Mike White challenged his trio of big men, junior center Kevarrius Hayes, redshirt sophomore forward Keith Stone and sophomore center Gorjok Gak, to raise their level of play after inconsistent showings at the PK80 Tournament in Portland. But none answered the bell. Hayes played with effort, but was consistently manhandled inside by FSU big men Phil Cofer and Ike Obiagu, finishing with 3 points, 2 rebounds, 3 blocks and 3 turnovers. Stone had 5 points, 3 points and 3 turnovers as well, while Gak had just 2 points and 4 rebounds in 7 minutes.

— With shots not falling early, Florida went back to its dribble drive approach rather than moving the ball around to get better shots. The Gators, who came into the game with a stellar assist-to-turnover margin of 2-1, had just 7 assists to 17 turnovers against the Seminoles.

4th straight win in the series for FSU.

Florida basketball: Gators slide continues with disappointing loss to Loyola-Chicago

QuoteNo. 5 Florida trailed by as many as 13 points and trailed most of the game in general against Loyola-Chicago on Wednesday night on the way to a 65-59 loss inside Exactech Arena at the O'Connell Center.

Two nights after a humbling 83-66 home loss to Florida State that left White searching for answers in his postgame comments, the Gators (5-3) delivered another ice-cold offensive performance while shooting 36.9 percent from the field and only 2 of 19 from 3-point range.

The Gators didn't have a single player score in double figures. Jalen Hudson (3 of 11 from the field, 0-5 on 3s) and Chris Chiozza finished with 9 points each, KeVaughn Allen (3-of-11, 1-5 from 3)...

Rough day for the SEC: Georgia loses to UMass, LSU to Stephen F. Austin, Ole Miss to Illinois State and Florida to Clemson.

UMass completely controlled and dominated this game from start to finish. Matt McCall and this group continue to overachieve. Not a good loss for a Georgia team hoping to get into NCAA tourney.

Quick recap: Vanderbilt basketball upsets TCU 81-78 in Big 12/SEC Challenge https://www.tennessean.com/story/sports/college/vanderbilt/2018/01/27/vanderbilt-basketball-upsets-tcu-81-78-big-12-sec-challenge/1052295001 ... via @tennessean

QuoteVanderbilt pulled off an upset in the Big 12/SEC Challenge, beating TCU 81-78 at Memorial Gym Saturday.

It was indisputably the Commodores' best win of the season. TCU (15-6, 3-6 Big 12) entered the game ranked No. 16 in NCAA RPI and just falling out of both Top 25 polls this week.

Vanderbilt (8-13, 3-6 SEC) now has two of its top three wins this season in its past two home games, including a victory over LSU (RPI 88) a week ago.

Seniors Jeff Roberson and Riley LaChance combined for 44 points, continuing their recent hot streak since fellow senior Matthew Fisher-Davis was lost for the season to a shoulder injury. LaChance scored 24 points with four 3-pointers. Roberson had 20 points with three 3-pointers.

"It's hard to get zero free throws. That's a first for me." - TCU coach Jamie Dixon on not attempting a FT against Vandy. (Although he said there were calls missed on both sides)

Analysis: Kentucky basketball finally earns respect with wild comeback at West Virginia

QuoteMORGANTOWN, W.Va. — To be clear, Kentucky had done nothing to indicate what was coming during the final 17 minutes Saturday night at West Virginia. Not all season, and certainly not in the preceding 23 minutes against the seventh-ranked Mountaineers.

The Wildcats, with neither a top-25 victory to their name nor a non-freshman in their starting lineup, trailed WVU by 17 points. A capacity crowd of nearly 16,000 howled with deafening delight as one of the most suffocating defenses in college basketball had just about squeezed the last gasp out of these stunned visitors.

And then: Kentucky 83, West Virginia 76.

This was the special Alabama basketball team we were expecting

QuoteSoon to be departing Scarblog: From Collin Sexton breaking ankles and speed limits to John Petty painting rainbows. From Donta Hall rejecting everyone in his path to Dazon Ingram dropping long-distance dimes. From Braxton Key rejoining the party to Herbert Jones reducing the nation's best player to a spectator at the end.

This wasn't the whole show, but this was the special Alabama basketball team we'd been expecting to see.

That it came against No. 12 Oklahoma and the leader for national player of the year in Trae Young made it look like a scary premonition of what's to come down the road. That it happened in front of as loud a sellout crowd as Coleman Coliseum had heard in ages made it feel like a blast from the past.

Alabama 80, Oklahoma 73 was a statement in bold, capital letters. The Crimson Tide isn't just an NCAA Tournament team waiting to happen. If it keeps working, it has an NCAA Tournament run in the offing.

SEC wins Big 12/SEC Challenge for first time in series history

QuoteSEC entered Saturday's Big 12/SEC Challenge as underdogs in several key matchups.

However, thanks to big wins from Alabama and Kentucky, the SEC came away victorious 6-4.

The Wildcats' 83-76 win over host West Virginia clinched the victory and avoided a 5-5 split for the second consecutive season. This is the first time the SEC won the event, which started in 2013-14.

The Crimson Tide pulled off arguably the biggest upset of the day, defeating Trae Young and No. 12 Oklahoma 80-73 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Young scored 17 points, his lowest output since the first game of his collegiate career.

Meanwhile, host Florida took down Baylor 81-60, and Tennessee went on the road and routed Iowa State 68-45.

Arkansas won a close matchup with visiting Oklahoma State, coming from behind to defeat the Cowboys 66-65. Host Vanderbilt also won a close one, upsetting TCU 81-78 in Nashville.

Georgia, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Texas A&M were the SEC teams that lost Saturday. Auburn, LSU, Missouri and Mississippi State did not play in the event due to the Big 12 only having 10 teams.
