We play GT on Thanksgiving. They just lost to East Tennessee State by 1 at home today. ETSU lost to Nova by 35 a few days ago. I know we aren't great, but this is a team we really should beat.

Win that one and play a good game against the winner of Nova/Stanford and come home with a little respect and confidence and that would make for a successful trip in my eyes.

I would love to beat Ga Tech.  They are not what they used to be but still a good name to have beat.  Plus we could use the W.

Definitely. Always good to beat a major conference team. It will do a lot for our confidence to beat a name team on a neutral court. However, when it comes to NCAAT/NIT resume talk this will not be a quality win, but will certainly be a bad loss if we lose.

Hollywood_HOGan45

We need to beat GT and hope by some miracle that Nova can lose to Stanford.

I would dread playing Nova in the big apple.

We lost by 10 to Akron who lost by 20 to Villanova.

So this means we add the 8 points we lost to Akron by to 20 points Akron lost to Nova by? Plus, factor in the fact that this is a road game -10 more points; and that it is in an unfamiliar arena -5 points; and then factor in CMA's lack of developing players -6 points. Oh, almost forgot. Factor in the fact that the staff didn't know Portis and Qualls were leaving - 10 points; and that our 2015 class is the worst ever -7 points; and by all means figure in the fact that our system/style of play is useless -11 points; and that our sideline coaching is nonexistent -5 points.

Please understand that this is by no means an all inclusive list of your critiques but I am a bit pressed for time. Using these numbers, I show the Hogs as a -82 handicap against NOVA and we only average 86 points a game, and that's at home. I know we will score at some point though and may keep the deficit under 50. If so, I will consider that a moral victory.  :razorback:

My point was GT is not a good team. They looked bad against Tenn, too. I have watched them play twice now, and I will really be disappointed if we lose.

Danny J

Any win over a p5 team on a neutral court is a good win at this point. Last year? Wouldn't have been that big a deal as we would have been talking about RPI and SOS. With this team however it is all about building confidence going forward. Guys like Whitt, Thompson and Kingsley.

So running the calculations, we lose -6 to smoogly oogly.

In four games, Georgia Tech has shot 31% from 3-point range while allowing 35%. They have been absolutely huge on the offensive boards + scoring inside, where they have made 58%.

ETSU somehow got Tech guard Adam Smith to be a little too laissez faire with the shooting. He made 4-15. The Wreck also got outscored 42-34 inside the arc, 36-22 in the paint. Their defense in the second half was practically zero. ETSU has a guard who transferred from Cincinnati and is a stud.

Ga Tech likes to play fast, Arkansas has better shooters, should be a win.

Here is a quote from ETSU coach Steve Forbes:

Does the officiating rules make driving to the basket a smarter strategy?

"It really is. The play that we ran when we were down and [Deuce] Bello drove it baseline and didn't get fouled, that's the only reason why I called that play. I called 'three clear' to try and get him to get fouled while driving to the basket. That's the bottom line. You're much better off the way the game's being called to drive the ball and throw it in the post. I've watched [Georgia Tech] play. They have a good team. We did a good job on them, but they have the type of team that the way the game's being called that it's tough to play them. They went 19-for-22 from the line. I think it's a game that the way it's being called you should be aggressive with the ball."

So,  are we going to win?     and why?

Danny J

Honestly....I have no idea of what to expect from our team especially on the road/neutral court against any P5 conference team whether they are mediocre or just plain terrible. This game will give us a good idea of what to expect going forward.

GTU beat Tenn and then lost to ETSU. So I think they are much like we are. Trying to figure things out.

ErieHog

I expect a 12 to 15 point loss.

No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Tenn is a terrible team, though.

Looks like you may be right. Which is sad because GT probably won't finish above .500 this season.

We won't. I am just saying losing by double digits on a neutral court to a bad team is pretty sad.

Yeah but we knew that coming into the season. I still think we win 16 maybe 17.

We need desperately to recruit some big's for next year. I mean in a bad way. I wouldn't sign another guard unless he was a very highly rated "have to have" type of player.

BigSexyHog

1st time I have seen the hogs on TV this year.  Some good, some bad.  Knew play down low could be rough at times.  Hopefully Trey is ok.  Heard Hannah's could shoot but didn't really understand till today.  Not the end of the world but I think we will be ok in the SEC

Looking in these out of conference games it appears to me that the SEC is going to be the strongest that is has been in a long time.  :(

Mike has a very positive persona and will not let his team lie down and have a good bleed.
