How much do we love?

This is a question, spurred on in me by a Mass reading from today, but I ask of all, believers, or Skeptics. How deep is our love? Would we lay down our life for our kids? Of course. Our siblings? Sure. A dear friend? Oh maybe. A complete stranger? Maybe not. If we are believers, would we give up our salvation, so that others may be saved? Paul seems to be saying he would.

"Brothers and sisters:
I speak the truth in Christ, I do not lie;
my conscience joins with the Holy Spirit in bearing me witness
that I have great sorrow and constant anguish in my heart.
For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ
for the sake of my own people,
my kindred according to the flesh.
They are children of Israel;
theirs the adoption, the glory, the covenants,
the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises;
theirs the patriarchs, and from them,
according to the flesh, is the Christ,
who is over all, God blessed forever. Amen."

I think Roman 6-8 pretty much sums up Pauls ministry, however this one tugged at my heart and challenged by intellect. How willing are we to give up something so dear to us, for the sake of others?

It is a question for everyone, not just Christians.
