I read this and it just makes me mad enough to smite you for pissing me off thinking what might have been.   

This whole deal with Anderson's success is similar to dumping a good hearted but plain looking girl for a prettier girl to take to prom.  You get your date but it turns out she's nothing but a bit@h, her bra is stuffed with tissue paper, and she has bad breath. The next time you see the ugly one she's turned into a drop dead gorgeous and you bang your head into the wall knowing how badly you screwed up.
