Is it too soon to make a thread?
Very excited to see this next class.

Let's start throwing some names around.

I am certain there are several posters eager to come on and complain about how 2018 recruiting is going.  No time like the present.

RazorPiggie

So far looks good. Hopefully we get Nathan Page on board as well.

Already off to a nice start with Nolan and Pool.  I'm sure we'll get Bishop at CB.  Doubt we get Bohannon if he's dead set on QB.  I'm not familiar with Page, but have heard the name.

I may have the name wrong.  We just offered an in-state CB.  Was thinking that was his name.  Won't swear to it.

Ready to see some names flooding in.  I need to look back and see what 2018 recruits we had visit last year.

This years class was pretty solid, but we already have as many 4 stars in the 2018 class as we did in the 2017 class.

ADavisTheGOAT

Would really like Alston Orji, Ken Montgomery Jr., and Ladarius Bishop.

Having Pool and Noland as our first 2 commits is a really impressive foundation to a class. There's not a lot in state once again, but I'd like to get Page and Bishop. That's assuming both those guys are good academically and whatnot. I would also like Bohannon, but not as a QB so we'll have to see where that situation goes from here. From twitter I've seen that we've been giving out several 2018 scholarships the last week or so (which hasn't all been reflected on 247 yet) and many of them have been pretty impressive prospects

Other bigger names we've been attached to for 2018 I'd like to secure would be Ken Montgomery Jr. and hopefully Alston Orji. Orji would be a huge get, but it will be TOUGH. He has had offers pile up from a lot of the big names over the last few months (LSU, Michigan, ND, etc), so that will be a heck of an accomplishment to get a player of that caliber

It will be interesting to see what position groups we hit in particular next time around. The one that sticks out is D line, but besides that there's not too much that seems "understocked" (besides always wanting the best players we can possibly get at each spot). We will lose a couple DBs, but signed a really DB heavy class in 17. We will lose Ragnow and Raulerson on OL, and signed 3 this time around but can definitely get 3 more though. I'd like to see us pull in Tank Johnson from Alabama (kind of a longshot), and I feel like we're in a good spot with Owen Condon from OK and Blaine Scott from OH currently

But who knows. There's lots of unknowns this early when it comes to how interested some kids actually are and even who the coaches have rated highest on their boards/what positions they will make a priority/what changes will happen to the roster between now and next February. Until then Woo Pig! :razorback:

Gerry Bohanon is a must IMO.  I just watched that young mans highlight real and all I can say is WOW.  Freak athlete.. size and speed.  Has a great arm with great touch.

It's criminal he isn't rated at least a 4 star.  I guarantee you he will be one when it's all said and done.

I've always wondered why we haven't gone after more dual threat QB's.

He's a 4* minimum if he signs with Bama, Auburn, or Georgia, low 3* if with Arkansas.

We had bumper crop of QB's come through the state that are more pocket passers.  Mallett, Wilson, Allen Bro's, and Ty storey.  That's roughly 12 years of Pro style QB's that if we didn't pursue this state would absolutely erupt. It definitely seems Bohanon will be heavily pursued at a few options, QB for the gus people wanting a Cam newton but could be a John Franklin.  Then you have the Saban's of the world that look at him as maybe an elite defensive recruit.

If Nolan is considering pro MLB then maybe so.  But Bohanon is not the accurate pocket passer our offense demands, yet.  I don't like wasting 2 schollies in a class on QB's with the way we have been stock piling QB's.

MrKlem10

Love how you guys just automatically think the kid can be a OLB at the SEC level of his QB dreams fall through.   In all honesty,  guys who are play makers who love the ball in their hand have a hard time with changes.   I mean we said the same about Duwop.   If he isn't going to get a fair shot at QB... Then he prolly needs to go somewhere else.

Ok, so then are you saying that Bama's 4 star recruits should have actually been rated as 3 star recruits?  That they're overrated?  The common claim here is that the star system is exaggerated one way or the other to align with volume of subscriptions.  That either means that Bama and UGA's recruits are therefore typically overrated, or UA recruits are typically underrated, or a combination of both.

I'd opine that there was only 1 game that didn't go the way it should have...Mizzou.  Vegas isn't the be all end all and it is always looking forward, predicting, but when you look back after the fact, you realize that we didn't actually overachieve 3 times.  We were most likely better than those 3.  I don't think OM made a bowl game, turns out TCU was very mediocre, and FL didn't field a QB.  We were better than all 3 of those.  Mizzou was the anomaly.  While we shouldn't have lost that particular game to VT given how the 1st half played out, VT was still as good or better than we were.  We could play that team 10 times on a neutral field, and they probably win more than we do.

OK, so back on track ...

- What will be the positions of need for the 2018 class?
- Who are some of the "must have" in-state recruits (based on history we stand a good chance of getting the in-state kids we offer)?
- Will we target any specialists (P/K) and if so, will they be scholarship offers?
- Will we have most of the class in the boat early like 2017?
- How much Frito Pie will be consumed during the course of the next recruiting season?

I suspect it will be a smaller class.

Needs will be OL and DL.

Must have Nolan, Bohannon, Bishop and that WR who's name I don't recall...Nate or something maybe?

I assume we will target a kicker/punter.

Yes, most will be in the boat fairly early.

YOu have been "hollering" at him for a few years now?  You just can't help yourself can you?  Talking to these younger players through social media is not beneficial to anyone and does not make you look better among anyone, it makes you look like a creep.
Even though our head coach has on multiple occasions said that the fans social media efforts are beneficial in recruiting? If you don't like it, don't do it, if you don't like it state that you are against, but no reason for you to be so judgmental.

Please provide the proof where CBB said fans messaging and carrying on frequent conversations with a young player is beneficial?  I don't think you can find it.

As far as Bohannon goes, if the staff thinks there's any hope that he could develop as a stud DT-QB, offer him and give him the shot.  If you are forthright with the kid and let him know that you think he's a hell of an athlete and could see him at multiple spots, he can't complain if he is outplayed by other dudes.  If he's open to being played at the spot that gives him the best chance to go to the NFL, then he's a guy we want.  If he kills it at QB in the summer/fall of FR year, great!  If not, he's got the spring of his FR year to work into a new spot and get some PT there.  Win-win for everybody.  I think honesty is the best policy in this case.

I'm quite certain Bielema has not said for our fans to go private message recruits on social media to better our chances, QUITE certain.

Now what recruits have been eating up is followers, likes, retweets.  That sort of stuff, which is different that what I am saying and what Pig in the Pokey has made routine
