No one in the athletic department has ever seen it as a problem.

That's the problem. It is, however, an unprofessional look. The damn backdrop is disgraceful. Those things can be ironed, and they can be wider as well. The lighting is atrocious and poorly done. There should be a professional lighting system installed by somebody who knows how, and then the media should be told no lights of their own to dork up the professional look.

If Arkansas truly wants to be world-class it needs to invest in some of these things. They preach attention to detail, but in this area they fail so badly and it's completely inexcusable.

Today was International Women's Day...I say we get some international women to iron the dang back drop!

You are obviously not part of the #Metoo movement. This day and age, comments like that will get a sexual harassment suit thrown at you so fast it will mess you up.

Please post some pics or give specific examples of schools that we can look to for guidance when updating the press conference decor

By and large, they are all very similar. Very little thought is put into aesthetics by any university in regards to the press conferences. Every set-up almost always includes a team backdrop that is too close to the subject allowing for poor separation and terrible shadow visibility. That also inhibits any ability to achieve any sense of a depth of field. Lighting distribution at most collegiate level press conferences is entirely too low in relation to the subject which creates issues with shadows and an uneven wash. The audio is really dependent on the media member. I can watch the same interview from three sources and the audio is different EVERY time. As for the university provided recaps, they seem to be pretty acceptable across the board.

Irwin used to help us out with that, but too many people crapped all over his efforts that he said the hell with that.  HV at it's finest.
why should a rando have to fix it? the UofA should fix it.

I would be happy if I could just hear the question being asked.

It would be so simple to fix that if they just would.  They have microphones that a guy can just point at the reporter asking the question from up to 20' away and hear them just fine.  As far as the table and arranging it better, that's bush league as well and a simple fix but for some reason has been overlooked for a long time.

This been a issue for several years.
We tried to fix it for years with four different coaches. Mic stands, as hard as it is to believe, have too many moving parts (really just 2) for them to use. I'm literally shaking my head at how dumb this sounds, but it's the honest truth. They're stupidly easy to use, but you put someone in front of a crowd to speak and the easy stuff to remember is the first to go. Gearhart was about the only person in my time working at the U of A that figured out how to use one. We tried different variations but to no end. Departments, including athletics, just went with the simplest (and cheapest) thing they could.

The SEC Network set up the lighting. They have a fiber link back to Charlotte so they can take pressers live if they need to. If not they record them for use later. One of the local guys got so frustrated with the lighting in the football dungeon that one day he set up his own lighting. Somebody at the SEC network immediately called the athletic department and raised hell. We were told in no uncertain terms never to mess with the lighting again.

Velcro might be a better look than duct tape (or was it Duck Tape)?

Why don't you just go ahead and make your posts in neon green and yellow with silver and white sparkles if you wanna bring Ducks into this discussion?  They do NOT have Frito Pie in Oregon, my friend!
