Jump Ball / Re: Keyon Menifield?

Such odd times in the college sports world, and I think basketball is seeing the greatest impact due to its high visibility and low number of players on each roster.

If you are a scholarship player sitting outside the regular rotation on a high-level basketball team, you have a decision to make whether to be glad to be part of the program and appreciate the free ride and the education... or decide to step down a level in competition to get more playing time.  If you move down, you hope to make a big impact there and possibly move back up later, or be happy to keep a bigger role at the smaller program.

If you stay with the bigger program, you still have a chance to develop and get more opportunities as your game matures, but with all the portal movement and 5-star high schoolers coming in each year, the odds of moving up the rotation are lower than they used to be.

If you stay put and end up never moving up, you still get a great education and you learn the sport from a high-level coach, which may translate into being a coach yourself in the future... or getting some sort of TV job (Jimmy Dykes comes to mind).

Not sure where Eugene Nash ended up, but there used to be a ton of players who only got in during mop-up time, but stayed with the program knowing they were probably never going to be a factor outside of practice.... but getting that free education.

Anyway, regardless of whether it is Menifield or someone like Joseph Pinion, the way players at the end of the bench envision their future is forever changed.

We lost a couple highly rated guys to the draft. Aloy will be back too

Quote from: Atlhogfan1 on Today at 12:59:52 pmThe sport is becoming more national enough they may could go to it sometime.  Instead we got TCU because of geography and the committee wanting to force "interesting" regional matchups.  Why we have gotten stuck with good ORU and Mo St teams over the years.  Close travel and they know the familiarity we have with each adds intensity.

In a 64 team S seeded tournament, a 3 seed would get in their regional:
30th overall seed as the regional 2 seed
35th seed as the regional 3 seed
62nd seed as the regional 4 seed

Instead, we still get stacked regions in some cases where the committee manipulates matchups like they'll put Ole Miss or State in with a good Southern Miss team one season.  The basketball committee will do it too.  But they don't have near the leeway since they do have to seed 1-64.

The selection is extremely stupid and inconsistent and I will die on this hill. If they are too lazy or stupid to seed teams 1-64, then get rid of them and find someone capable. The whole deal of keeping the tournament "regional" only sometimes is infuriating and unfair. It allows for selection bias and the ability to give certain teams an easier or harder path whenever they want. Constantly sending teams from Oklahoma, Texas, and Missouri here while they randomly will send teams like LSU or Vandy to Oregon, Oregon State to Baton Rouge, or Texas A&M to Stanford is so silly.

Almost as nutty as North hills having three par 3's on the back. Holes #11, 15, & 17.

The problem with the MLB draft is if you get in an organization that doesn't have a great pitching coach you could be screwd if you come out of HS. Going to college and controlling your development could make you some money. Hagen is an example so is Wicklander and Kopps with NIL kids are starting to think about it more. Plus you don't have to stay in A ball very long if your good. I think this is why we got some kids we thought we wouldn't last year. It all depends on where Wiggins goes.

I'll be shocked if we don't get OSU or Texas this year.  Both will be very tough #2's and Texas is on a similar path as TCU was last year.  I am hoping for someone from out West as the #2
