...returning players in the SEC next season.  What say ye? ??? ;D

ErieHog

Possibly.  It'll depend on how many of Kentucky's kids opt out, and how many return.

No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Tremendous improvement this year.  Still a big upside.  If he can limit the mental lapses and stop putting the ball on the floor, he will have bright future.

HogFoo

I dont  ever remember a player make improvement  from 1 yr to the next like Kingsley.  Dalvon Johnson did  a similar type of improvement for his senior season.  But he didnt have an outside shot like Kingsley,  nor the ability to handle the ball.    If kingsley keeps this up and comes back next season, he could be a top 20 pick.  I also am glad that jimmy whitt is finally starting to come around as well.  Thompson showing signs of breaking out too!  It sure gives us hope that our team next season will be pretty dang good.

Kingsley, an improved whitt, hannahs hot shot, Thompson improved, Beard hopefully better, and then adding all the newcomers, which are all some of the top, if not the top scorers in jucos ranks.  It gives me a lot of hope for next year.  I was highly doubtful after the auburn loss, but i can see light now.  Its just going to take a little while, but hopefully mike gets it done.  Still wish he'd hire a top recruiter/coach and follow  Bielema's example of hiring the best recruiters he could get.
Basketball is back, baseball always, football was a dumpster fire once again..... but as the phoenix rose from the ashes, BMF Petrino has risen again!!! IronMountainHog

Wait just a minute. You can't come to Arkansas and be any good or put yourself in position to get drafted. Marcus Monk said so ;)

WorfHog

If Moses could develop even a bit of outside shooting he'd be almost unstoppable.  That move he made on the breakaway in the second half was sick.

Marcus Monk just wants to make $$$ being an agent.

HogFoo

He doesn't have the 3, but he has a nice  10-15ft shot he makes pretty consistently.

Just about all of Kentucky's incoming players (Monk, etc.) will be hyped heavily.

Talking about extremes last year Kentucky dominant insude but weak perimeter...this year pretty much the opposite of last years wow.

Yeah, but as this thread is about returnees only, from the subject, they won't be involved in consideration of returning players.

Has to figure out how to stop racking up so many fouls so early in the game. Also needs to improve free throw game

And I thought this was about Moses. In case you haven't noticed we have had one player drafted since Mike got here.

Now back to what this thread was about.  Moses will be the second player Mike will have drafted. He should be first team pre-season all SEC and a potential POY candidate.  The kid has been one of the most improved players I have seen in over 40 years as a Hog fan. I just wish he would have hit his stride a year sooner. Hopefully Thompson builds on his performance tonight and some of the newcomers give us some help inside and Kingsley can really take off.

His game should be even better next season and he'll have far more help. It's without a doubt he'll be the player returning with the most double doubles from this season cause Big Ben is almost gone.

WBOBO

Moses will be one of the most hyped players in the SEC next season but he also needs  to become
a leader like the "Admiral" was in college and also in the NBA.  He needs that kind of persona, and
he can get their I believe.
The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra.

If Kentucky returns 3 or 4 of their guys, they'll almost assuredly be the most hyped.  That takes a ton of the air out of the bubble, when you are talking about them potentially blotting up more than half the available slots.

Of course not--  the question asked wasn't about stats.  The question asked, was about hype.  You won't get more hype than Kentucky.

Moses stat line will give him deserved hype.

Player returning with most double doubles.
Top 10 Sec scorer
Top 5 Sec rebounder
Top 2 Sec shot blocker
Top Sec offensive rebounder
Top 5 Sec shooting percentage

Of course UK will have the media stuck up their butts still Moses has a chance to be the real deal.

Maybe! He'll be right below:
1. Deaaron Fox
2. Bam Adebayo
3. Malik Monk
4. Skal Labissiere
5. Terrance Ferguson - Bama commit

All kidding aside, I know Moses isn't a 1st round pick like some of these guys coming up, but I don't see any of the Top SEC players such as Simmons, Ullis, Damian Jones, or Jamaal Murray coming back. His returning post competition would be Yambe Maden & John Egbunu.

OperationRestoreHawgBall

Newsflash. The stats get spread around when every spot is filled with nba type talent and once they buy into Calipari's system.

Nobody who understands the NBA.     There is a reason why he isn't on any draft radar;  he's a very good college player now, but in no way a professional.

nowdays.. if a kid scores 8pts a game in college and grabs 3 rebounds.. he's going to the league!

No, it isn't.

The facts simply don't bear out those kinds of assertions.

Here is a cheat sheet that shows what the actual draft rate is, historically-- about 8% go undrafted, not 80%.
They almost all make NBA rosters, or are placed in the D-League.

He's light years from pro-ready.    Portis last year, was pro-ready.

He has the athleticism, but not the polish.    He needs face up to the basket work, help defense work, work on resisting shot fakes,  learning to play with foul trouble,  more work on how to fill as a trailer, and more work in iso situations.    It'd be nice if he worked more on turning over both shoulders as well.

Too many people see a guy who puts up a 20/10 line in a college game, and think  'that kind of productivity must surely translate to being a professional basketball player'--    it doesn't.   Skills translate.    Polish translates.  Shooting usually translates.

He's a fine college player today--  he's not a pro by any measure.

You know, it is sad when we are forced to take a back seat to UK on hyping a great player. Moses' ceiling on his ability hasn't even come into sight yet. Kingsley is going to be a man among boys next season. On the UK thing, I watched with a smile the other night when Chicago played the Timber Wolves and Portis guarded and was being guarded by one Karl Anthony Townes. BP took Townes outside to the 3 point line, then took him off the dribble inside to the cup and then posted-up the UK great just inside the free throw line and then proceeded to take Townes to school off with his footwork. Portis future is as bright as it gets and he is the steal of the draft. If only the Monks could understand its not where you go to school, they'll (the NBA) will find you if you can play the game.
The long Grey line will never fail our country.

I think it's less about the career and more about that first contract with the NBA. Playing the money part is huge, you want the most money as quickly as possible, and a higher pick can give you that.  Not only will they develop you, but at UK you will get hype.  Having something like that in our pocked will take some time.

If Tyler Ulis stays another year, and I think he just might. Monk, maybe for the first time in his life may find himself riding the pine. After the Archie Goodwin fiasco at UK, I have serious doubts as to whether Monk will even crack the starting line up. If that happens, then what ? More money to Marcus to keep his little brother's mouth shut ?
