QuoteBishop is the No. 3 athlete in the country. The quarterback out of Terrell County in Georgia was being recruited as a defensive back by Florida.

Tigers have 12 commitments with the addition of Bishop and  defensive back Stephen Davis Jr.  Eight of Auburn's commitments are rated four-star prospects or higher.

"Gus Malzahn told me I am still coming here to Auburn as an athlete," Bishop told Dawgnation's Jeff Sentell. "But I'm going to get my shot at quarterback if I come here."

Been watching "Last Chance U" on Netflix. I was thinking JohnnFranklin III seemed like a little punk and I just realized his Gus's new bell cow.

Perfect match.
If Auburn is dirty so is Gus. You can't have it both ways. Deal with it.

QuoteBrahms: "Someone fell on it from the side and I broke my fibula and tore a few ligaments," Brahms told the Northwest Florida Daily News.. "I'm not sure how long I'll be out."

QuoteThere have been slip-ups along the way, sure (see: Jovon Robinson and D'haquille Williams).

Auburn has eight former junior college players on the roster, including John Franklin III, who helped shine light on the JUCO path this offseason as one of the featured athletes on the Netflix documentary Last Chance U.

Here's a look at some of the potential junior college additions in the upcoming class.

3-star athlete commit Octavius Matthews, Itawamba C.C. (Fulton, Miss.): Matthews verbally joined Auburn's 2017 class on June 5.

4-star defensive end target Isaiah Buggs, Mississippi Gulf Coast C.C. (Perkinston, Miss.)

4-star wide receiver target Brandon Martin, Mississippi Gulf Coast

3-star running back target Isaiah Patrick, East Mississippi C.C. (Scooba, Miss.): Patrick got some face time in the first season of Last Chance U and could be one of the featured stars in the renewed second season.

3-star offensive tackle target Jordan Agasiva, Pima C.C. (Tucson, Ariz.)

3-star offensive tackle target D'Marcus Hayes, Mississippi Gulf Coast

4-star offensive tackle target Badara Traore, ASA College (Brooklyn, N.Y.)

QuoteMonty Rice had one of the biggest plays Friday in James Clemens' 28-6 win over Clay-Chalkville.

With his team up 14-6 late in the third and the Cougars driving, Rice intercepted a Willie Miller pass and returned it 50 yards into Clay-Chalkville territory.

The 6-foot-1, 230-pound Rice, a middle linebacker for James Clemens, lumbered and shook off tacklers before being run down.

Rice, a three-star recruit, mentioned Georgia, Auburn, LSU, Florida, Florida State and Tennessee as schools he's looking at now, but added that he is taking his recruitment slow.

Rice will be in Auburn Saturday to watch the Tigers host LSU.

"I really want to see how they respond, especially after the Texas A&M loss," Rice said. "It's going to be a tough SEC West game."

Rice is feeling the love from Auburn coaches.

"(Running backs coach) Tim Horton writes me about every other day and so does (linebackers coach) Travis Williams," Rice said. "I think Gus Malzahn is a terrific head coach. They're off to a slow start, but they're playing terrific defense."

Georgia inside linebackers coach Glenn Schumann watched Rice in action Friday night.

"I love Georgia," Rice said. "(Head coach) Kirby Smart is a terrific leader. I believe in coach Smart and what he's doing."

Quote5-foot-7, 160-pound Shivers is the No. 6 ranked all-purpose back in the class of 2018.

"I love how they move the ball around to every position," Shivers told Sands. "What I most like about it is how they feed their backs. I know West Virginia feed their backs, but not as much as Auburn does."

Per his 247Sports profile page, Shivers runs the 40-yard dash in 4.52 seconds (hand timed).

It was filmed last Tuesday, meaning he officially visited Ole Miss with his decision already made.
Filming took place at Britt's home during an actual Halloween celebration.

QuoteAuburn's persistence landed the Tigers our nation's No. 1 junior college player.

Auburn quarterback commit Jarrett Stidham said Tigers head coach Gus Malzahn and offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee contacted him immediately after he announced his decision to leave the Big 12 after his freshman season  year [sic]. Tigers showed how much they needed Stidham by staying in constant communication, especially in the last two or three weeks with multiple trips, calls and texts.

"Honestly, they worked their tails off, calling me and texting me," Stidham said. "I even had players texting me and all that kind of stuff."

"They're great people first and foremost. And I'm excited to play for them."

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Stidham took three trips to Auburn this fall and felt "at home."

QuoteAUBURN, Ala. — It took 23 days for Auburn to replace defensive backs coach Wesley McGriff with Greg Brown.

The new Tigers secondary coach brings a 30-plus-year history to the coaching staff. He has stops at Missouri, Louisville and Alabama recently.

Auburn has nothing to worry about with its four defensive back commitments Malcolm Askew, Traivon Leonard, Jordyn Peters and Carlito Gonzalez.

Askew is already on campus as an early enrollee, so Auburn has no retention concerns with him.

Leonard was always an interesting one to track. The 3-star cornerback from Florida was a McGriff disciple, through and through.

"That's a big-time hire. I can barely function I'm so excited," Leonard said. "I was never worried. I just stood still and trusted the process."

Leonard still hasn't met Brown, or spoken to him.

Peters' Jan. 20 visit won't be his only official visit in January, however. He also will take one to Virginia Tech either the first weekend or the last weekend of the contact period, but Peters hasn't officially nailed down the date.

That brings us to the final secondary commitment the class — Carlito Gonzalez.

He was the only committed member that hinted at some uncertainty following the McGriff departure. Gonzalez expressed some concern because of the constant turnover at the position since he committed in 2015. It forced him to consider a possible reopened recruitment, including South Carolina and Ole Miss.

Auburn recruits finally react to departure of Rhett Lashlee to UConn

QuoteTwo of Lashlee's biggest recruits, quarterback Jarrett Stidham and athlete Malik Willis, are already enrolled at Auburn and thus [will] not be contacted directly by the media.

National Signing Day is less than a month away. The biggest concern for Auburn, and what a problem to have, lies in the 2018 class. Four-star quarterback Joey Gatewood at Jacksonville Bartram Trail is the nation's No. 3 dual-threat quarterback and Lashlee was the reason. Gatewood called the news "heartbreaking" and "brotherly, father-son" relationship. "He played a huge role in my commitment. I believe in him. It really sucks. I don't know. It really does suck. I don't really have any words for it."

QuoteThomas Johnston racked up more tackles than any other player in Alabama high school history, but Auburn likes the Spanish Fort star linebacker on offense.

The Tigers are recruiting the 6-foot-2, 215-pounder at H-back in an effort to take the load off starter Chandler Cox next season.

"At first I wanted nothing to do with it," Johnston said Sunday after his official visit to Auburn...

QuoteWhen Auburn offered Chase Lasater a scholarship last month, Rhett Lashlee was the team's offensive coordinator. Lashlee has since left for Connecticut, and Auburn replaced him Saturday morning by hiring Chip Lindsey away from Arizona State.

That leaves Lasater playing the waiting game as Lindsey reviews the H-back target's film to determine if the offer is still committable.

"They offered me a few weeks ago at practice, but I would like to know 100 percent with a letter of intent and all that," Lasater said Sunday after his official visit to Auburn. "Once I have that, then most definitely I'll be out here.

"I don't want to commit because I don't want to throw out my other options. I just want to know it's a 100 percent thing before I do make a final decision as I would with any school."

The other H-back Auburn was targeting in this class, Spanish Fort star Thomas Johnston, eliminated the Tigers from his recruitment during a visit to Ole Miss Sunday.

QuoteH-back target at Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Fla: "I'd like to announce to all schools interested in my recruitment that I will not be committing to Auburn as expected. Due to the OC change my family and I do not feel it's the school for me to thrive on either side of the ball. I'd like to thank all the Auburn staff for the scholarship offer and showing me a great time. Finally thanks to Coach (Scott) Fountain and Coach Herb Hand for making my family and I feel at home and showing us a great time."

When Auburn hired new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey last Saturday to replace Rhett Lashlee, the Tigers put the offer they extended to Lasater in December on hold as Lindsey determined whether it was still committable.

The day after Lasater left Auburn, Lindsey extended his first offer as offensive coordinator to John Samuel Shenker, a combo recruit who can play H-back, tight end and receiver. The Tigers were also recruiting Spansih Fort linebacker Thomas Johnston at H-back, but he eliminated the Tigers from contention Sunday and committed to UAB over Arkansas, Iowa and Ole Miss...

Quote"Once again, the state of Alabama was a priority for us," Malzahn said last Wednesday. "We signed 10 players from the state of Alabama, six from the state of Georgia and four from Florida. Those are our three states we make our living in so real pleased with that."

Auburn picked up six consensus 4-stars from its home state — defensive end Tadarian Moultry, offensive tackle Austin Troxell, defensive back Malcolm Askew, athlete Alaric Williams, wide receiver Noah Igbinoghene and linebacker KJ Britt.

"When I think about T.D., he's one of the best players, if not the best player, in the state," Malzahn said. "He's a 5-star guy. He took no other visits. He was extremely loyal to us, and he helped us recruit. He's got a unique skill set. ... We're very excited about T.D. We think he can come in here and help right off the bat."

Auburn signed as many in-state blue chip recruits as Alabama in the 2017 class. The last time that happened was 2007, when Saban was only a month into the job in Tuscaloosa.

While the Crimson Tide signed higher-rated Alabama players and locked down the nation's No. 1 overall class for a seventh consecutive season, they didn't hold a massive advantage over Auburn with in-state recruiting.

QuoteJalil Irvin committed to Aubun [sic] on Wednesday, but the wheels had been in motion for the four-star offensive guard from Stone Mountain, Ga., for more than a year.

247Sports composite: As a 4-star, Irvin is ranked as the No. 18 offensive guard nationally, No. 30 prospect in Georgia and No. 311 overall prospect.

Irvin is Auburn's fourth commitment for the class and first on the offensive line. Irvin had plenty of offers and he's going to stick. Auburn signed three offensive linemen last year and that number will need to be higher in this class.

Auburn gains a verbal from an Atlanta defensive back Monday

QuoteAuburn picked up a commitment from Quindarious Monday, a four-star safety from Atlanta.

6-foot-3, 175-pound Monday is the nation's No. 9-ranked athlete, No. 221 prospect nationally and No. 24 prospect in Georgia.

Monday preps at Carver High. He chose the Tigers over Georgia and Clemson, among others, while on a visit to Auburn. Schools such as Florida, Florida State and Tennessee were also in the mix.

Quote4-star DL Caleb Tannor, Miller Grove (Ga.): Tannor's decision will come in the next two weeks. The defensive end from Georgia has cut it to two — Georgia and Auburn. Georgia is the perceived favorite

4-star RB Asa Martin, Austin (Ala.): With Alabama and Florida battling, it's going to be a challenge for Martin to land in the Auburn class. It's not out of the question

4-star OL Trey Hill, Houston County (Ga.): Hill keeps visiting Auburn. It took him four or five visits before receiving an offer, but that didn't scare the big offensive lineman away

4-star WR Kearis Jackson, Peach County (Ga.): Jackson will make his final decision Aug. 19, and for the time being, I'd be shocked if he picked anyone other than Georgia

4-star LB JJ Peterson, Colquitt County (Ga.): Peterson has the persona of an Alabama linebacker, and he's also called the Crimson Tide his leader during every interview

4-star CB Christian Tutt, Thomson (Ga.): Tutt's recruitment has been a whirlwind, so it's impossible at this time —
