It was the most shocking development of early signing day in Mississippi, and James Williams tells @AnnieCostabile how and why it happened.

QuoteThe most talked about news in Mississippi on the first ever early signing day was James Williams and the Callaway defensive end's last-minute decision to sign with Ole Miss.

Williams committed to Mississippi State in October and said coming in and playing right away was a factor in his decision. The reality, though, is that signing with Mississippi State meant he would likely sit behind a defensive line that's already set.

Ole Miss, on the other hand, is in need of what Williams, a three-star prospect who had 12 sacks for Callaway, has to offer.

Auburn offers 4-star, in-state DE Malik Langham

QuoteAuburn has become a late entry in the race for Lee-Huntsville 2018 four-star defensive end Malik Langham.

Langham tweeted tonight that he has received an offer from the Tigers. National Signing Day is Feb. 7. The announcement came after he helped the Generals beat crosstown rival Mae Jemison 64-44 in basketball.

6-foot-5 1/2 Langham counts Alabama, Florida and Tennessee among his offers. He is set to visit Tuscaloosa this weekend and is coming off a trip to Vanderbilt last weekend. Volunteers coach Jeremy Pruitt and Gators coach Dan Mullen both made in-home visits this week.

Langham is rated the No. 9 strong-side defensive end and No. 222 overall recruit in the nation by 247Sports. He is No. 11 on AL.com's A-List of the state's top senior prospects and a finalist for Class 5A Lineman of the Year. Langham recorded 104 tackles, including 14 for a loss, 11 sacks and 23 quarterback hurries last season.

Auburn landed four-star defensive end Kayode Oladele of Champagnat Catholic (Fla.) during the December early signing period.

Report: Tennessee DT commit D'Andre Litaker re-opening recruitment

QuoteLitaker tore his second ACL to end his senior season. He tore his other ACL to end his junior season.

The 6-foot-3, 285-pound defensive tackle would have probably needed a redshirt season just to get his strength back and knock the rust off his game.

Tennessee now holds 17 commits in the Class of 2018.

LaMarius Benson announces de-commitment from South Carolina

QuoteThree-star defensive tackle LaMarius Benson, who committed to South Carolina as an offensive lineman, is no longer on board with the Gamecocks.

He announced his de-commitment on Thursday morning.

Benson is the No. 92 defensive tackle in the Class of 2018. The 6-foot-3, 330-pound prospect from Eastside High School (Covington, Ga.) recently took an official visit to Central Florida.

Benson joins 3-star defensive tackle Dantrell Barkley as the second de-commitment from the Gamecocks 2018 class. Barkley has since signed with Charlotte.

Florida recruiting: Gators battling Texas A&M for JUCO DE Dorian Gerald

QuoteHeading into the final weekend before Signing Day, I think it's 50-50 between Florida and Texas A&M for Dorian Gerald.

The nation's No. 1 junior college strong-side defensive end has taken official visits to Arkansas, Louisville and Texas A&M. The Aggies appear to be in the driver's seat coming out of those trips.

Gerald has quickly hit it off with Texas A&M defensive ends coach Terry Price, who serves as his primary recruiter. Aggies coach Jimbo Fisher and Price conducted an in-home visit with Gerald on Jan. 23 after his trip to College Station.

The Gators also generated a lot of buzz in Gerald's recruitment last month. Florida defensive coordinator Todd Grantham conducted an in-home visit on Jan. 12 and made a positive first impression. Grantham followed up by visiting Gerald's parents in South Carolina while defensive line coach Sal Sunseri met with Gerald in California.

Florida coach Dan Mullen visited Gerald on Jan. 21 after he made it back from Texas A&M. Gerald returns the favor this weekend by giving the Gators his final official visit. Both Miami and Ole Miss reportedly tried to get Gerald to cancel his Florida trip and visit them, so it's a good sign that he decided to stick with his original plans.

Gerald is from the Palmetto State and proximity to home could give Florida an advantage over Texas A&M. If he enjoys his time in Gainesville, the Gators have a chance to pull ahead of the Aggies late and land him on National Signing Day. Gerald is ranked the nation's No. 27 overall recruit in the 247Sports composite JUCO rankings.

Jackson, rated as a top-50 prospect in the 2020 class and the No. 3 defensive tackle, also holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Mississippi State and Tennessee

LSU nets commitment from 4-star DE

QuoteMississippi 4-star defensive end Jaren Handy is the latest to commit to LSU, giving a verbal commitment on Saturday in the aftermath of the team's out-of-state junior day.

Handy, a top-100 prospect nationally, is the No. 7-ranked strongside defensive end in the 2019 class and No. 6-ranked prospect out of the Magnolia State.

The 6-foot-5, 260-pound prospect out of New Augusta, Miss., was one of the several Mississippi-based prospects to visit Baton Rouge on Saturday. He becomes the second defensive line [sic] in Ed Orgeron's 2019 class, joining Haynesville (La.) defensive tackle Joseph Evans.

Overall, Handy is the seventh member of LSU's 2019 group, which ranked No. 8 heading into the weekend.

5-star DE Kayvon Thibideaux impressed by 'intense' Florida practices

QuoteGAINESVILLE, Fla. — Kayvon Thibodeaux, the nation's No. 1 overall recruit, has wrapped up his two-day visit to Florida.

The 5-star defensive end from Oaks Christian High School (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) arrived in Gainesville on Friday and attended the first two practices of the Dan Mullen era.

"It was super fun. I really liked it," Thibodeaux told SEC Country. "These coaches get after it. The practices are high tempo and they're having fun. I'm not going to lie, it was pretty intense."

Thibodeaux has visited the Sunshine State before, but this weekend was his first time at Florida. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound prospect spent time with several coaches and staff members during his trip, which concluded with a meeting in Mullen's office.

"Coach Mullen is honestly a great dude," Thibodeaux said. "I respect him as a man. I respect his morals. It was actually a great experience to talk to him one-on-one and really find out who he is."

During the talk, Thibodeaux was able to hold one of Florida's national championship trophies and took a picture with Mullen. The first-year Gators coach made a strong impression on him.

"He's just straight forward," Thibodeaux said of Mullen. "He's not a used car salesman like most coaches are. He is who he is. There's nothing to hide or under his sleeve. What you see is what you get. He's probably one of the most honest and respectable men I've ever met."

Thibodeaux said he will make a return trip to Gainesville, most likely for a game. The nation's top-ranked player added that he can see himself attending Florida after spending a couple days on campus this weekend.

"I can definitely spend my college years here," Thibodeaux said. "Honestly, it's a great place. It's a real college town. The fans are crazy. It's big-time football with great coaching."

Alabama's 2018 class may not be done as Tide look to bolster defensive line

QuoteAlabama signed two defensive linemen in the 2018 class in 4-star prospects Stephon Wynn and Christian Barmore. The team was hoping to add at least one more but missed on 4-star defensive end Bobby Brown, who flipped from Alabama to Texas A&M on National Signing Day, and 4-star defensive end Malik Langham, who signed with Florida.

"We were actually hoping to get one more defensive lineman in this class," Nick Saban said on National Signing Day.

The main name to know right now on the defensive line is Tevita Musika, an interior lineman from College of San Mateo (Calif.). Musika, a 6-foot-1, 300-pound prospect, picked up an offer from the Tide earlier this month. Defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi is Musika's primary recruiter.

QuoteClay-Chalkville's DJ Dale is a big man who's taken a step clozer to a big decision.

The 6-foot-2, 330-pound defensive lineman released his top-5 scshools via Twitter on Thursday, with in-state rivals Alabama and Auburn among the finalists. The others are Florida State, Clemson and Tennessee, led by former Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt.
