John Atkins, a 6-foot-4, 310-pound defensive tackle from Virginia's Hargrave prep school, was told that the NCAA Clearinghouse had corrected a mistake on his transcript — allowing him to enroll early at UGA.

I feel good, I feel blessed," Atkins told the AJC on Thursday evening, while making the six-hour trip from Virginia to Georgia.

"I couldn't believe it when I heard it. They told me 'You're going to Georgia, and you will be there by tomorrow."

Atkins will provide immediate help this spring to a UGA defense that will be depleted by graduation and NFL departures. He will play nose tackle.

JUCO defensive tackle Ben Bradley plans to choose between Auburn or Kentucky Monday

QuoteBen Bradley's whirlwind recruiting weekend is about to come to a close.

Bradley, a 6-foot-3, 315-pound defensive tackle from Hutchinson Community College, visited Kentucky on Saturday, Auburn on Sunday and plans to choose between the two SEC schools on Monday.

A four-star prospect, Bradley plans to announce his decision on his Twitter account -- @IamAmbition98 -- Monday morning and sign his national letter of intent so he can enroll early.

""I'm announcing on Monday morning and sending the papers in," Bradley said. "I already know where I'm going, I'm just waiting until tomorrow to send it in. I have a good feeling about it."

Crescent City defensive tackle Caleb Brantley recommitted to Florida early Saturday morning after a meeting with the UF coaches.

The four-star prospect and ESPN150 member had been committed to the Gators for more than 11 months before backing off of his pledge Wednesday because he wanted to take official visits

"I hung out with a lot of uncommitted recruits at the Under Armour practices and got caught up in the moment," Brantley said. "Hearing about all the visits they were taking made me (want to) do the same, but at the end of the day I love Florida too much and went with my heart."

The 6-foot-3, 295-pounder played a limited amount of snaps in Friday's Under Armour All-America Game in St. Petersburg because of neck spasms, but he had a sack for a loss of five yards.

The Gators now have 25 members in their 2013 class.

Montravius Adams: 5-star DT to visit Clemson, Alabama and UGA next

It was a rough week and rough month for Dooly County defensive tackle Montravius Adams.

The 6-foot-4, 300-pounder injured his ankle on the first day of Under Armour All-America practice and was diagnosed with a stress fracture. Adams, who was in a walking boot for the rest of the week, said it was related to being injured on a "chop block" in the loss to ECI in the Class A state championship game.

After Friday's Under Armour game in St. Petersburg, Fla., Adams left immediately for an official visit to Florida.

He has also scheduled trips to Clemson, Alabama and Georgia this month.

Adams had mixed feelings about defensive line coach Rodney Garner being hired away from Georgia. "It didn't really change things. Well, it affected it a little bit. Me and him were really close. But it didn't change how I feel about Georgia because maybe they'll get a guy just as good, or maybe even better."

Mississippi State's Chris Wilson has accepted an offer to become UGA's new defensive line coach...

Ben Bradley's announcement is now two hours behind schedule with no explanation from Bradley or anyone involved in his recruitment. A Kentucky football recruiting Twitter account (@RecruitKentucky) tweeted that the delay has something to do with whether or not he can enroll at Kentucky: "Hearing a little bit on Bradley. Dilemma is when he can enroll. If he can today at UK, he goes to Kentucky. If not, Auburn. Wants UK."

Justin Rowland of Rivals.com says Kentucky and Auburn are both confident in landing the 4-star defensive tackle.

Thanks RD. Wish we could get some solid DT type players for 2013, just so little time (I understand we're looking at a couple but we'll see who bites).

I could not possibly be more happy with how the coaching staff is already setting up the 2014 class, very impressed.
Success isn't permanent and failure isn't fatal.

Friday schedule of 5-star defensive tackle Montravius Adams of Dooly County High School, a tiny rural community located 140 miles south of Atlanta.

Friday is the first day of the NCAA "contact period," and Adams will have three sets of coaches visit him at school:

8:30 a.m. Meet with new UGA defensive line coach Chris Wilson, defensive coordinator Todd Grantham, and offensive line coach Will Friend. This is a huge meeting for Wilson, who would be Adams' new position coach for the Bulldogs if he signed there (after Rodney Garner left for Auburn).

10 a.m. Meet with Florida defensive line coach Bryant Young

11:30 a.m. Meet with former UGA defensive line coach Rodney Garner and two other Auburn assistants.

1 p.m. Depart for Clemson.

"Coach Stoops jumped out of his chair," said Meant, who could play defensive end or tackle at UK and believes he'll have a shot at immediate playing time.
He previously made official visits to Kansas State and Washington State.

Josh Augusta, a 6-foot-5, 300-pound defensive tackle from Peoria, Ill., chose Missouri over Illinois, Michigan State and Mississippi, he confirmed Sunday night in an email.

QuoteWith Sheldon Richardson leaving school early for the NFL draft, Missouri's left with just one defensive tackle who's started a college game, junior Matt Hoch.

n recent weeks, junior college prospect Ben Bradley visited Missouri but later chose Auburn, while Kansas City high school target Maliek Collins committed to Nebraska.

Missouri has two more verbal commitments from players projected as D-tackles: Rock Bridge's A.J. Logan and Maplewood's Antar Thompson. Defensive ends Nate Crawford (Pensacola, Fla.) and Dimarya Mixon (Mesquite, Texas) could also grow into interior linemen.

Montravius Adams, a 5-star defensive tackle from Dooly County High School, will take a recruiting trip to UGA this weekend.

And it's still unknown if it will be his last.

The 6-foot-4, 310-pounder has already been to Clemson, Florida and Alabama.

Rodney Garner, the former UGA recruiting coordinator who is now Auburn's defensive line coach, is trying to secure Adams for a Feb. 1 visit.

Both Garner and Auburn defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson met with Adams at school on Tuesday.

"I really don't know about a (fifth visit)," Dooly Count coach Jim Hughes told the AJC. "The only school that he's talked about for that date is Auburn. They were in today, and when they left Mont still didn't have a definite 'yes.' He may consider not going anywhere. I'll know something in the next day or so."

Montravius Adams (Vienna, Ga./Dooly County), Jaynard Bostwick (Port Saint Lucie, Fla./West Centennial) and JUCO Ole Miss commit Jarran Reed (Scooba East Mississippi C.C.) are the defensive tackles left on Florida's board. Adams visited UF on Jan. 5, but he's still considered a long shot for Florida. After officials this month to Alabama and Miami, the Gators get the final visit for Bostwick on Feb. 1.

Elijah Daniel (Avon, Ind.) is no longer in play for UF because of his grades and recent commitment to Ole Miss, while Robert Nkdemiche (Loganville, Ga./Grayson) remains a heavy lean to Ole Miss despite his official visit to Florida. That leaves the Gators with Auburn commit Tashawn Bower (Somerville, N.J./Immaculata)...

The 6-foot-2, 275-pounder initiated contact with UGA, got visited by Mark Richt on Friday and will take an official visit with the Bulldogs this weekend...

The flirting has ended between UGA and one of the Florida Gators' top recruits. Archer High School defensive tackle Antonio "Tee" Riles told the AJC he will not take an official visit with the Bulldogs this weekend.

Four-star JUCO defensive tackle Toby Johnson $urprisingly picks Georgia over Auburn, State

He's Georgia's 33rd signee in the 2013 class.

Bama, Auburn both in the mix for 4-star defensive tackle Elisha Shaw

Shaw, 6-5, 300, who is rated the nation's No. 4 defensive tackle prospect for the 2014 class by the 247Composite rankings, said that Alabama and Auburn, along with every other school recruiting him, see him as a prototypical defensive tackle at the college level.

"I'm not really even done growing yet so I think my body can hold even more weight and more muscle before I'm finished with high school. I am playing basketball this spring to stay in shape but I'm planning to do a lot of camps this summer and spend a lot of time in the weight room so hopefully I can be more dominant in the middle next season."

Shaw also holds offers from Florida State, Arkansas, Mississippi State and Ohio State. He registered 28 tackles and 6 sacks as a junior at Tucker High School outside of Atlanta last season.

Vanderbilt's most experienced defensive tackle is no longer enrolled in school or a member of the team because of a violation of an unspecified rule.

However, coach James Franklin and defensive coordinator Bob Shoop expressed hope on Tuesday night that Jared Morse would be able to rejoin the Commodores this fall and play his senior season.

"Jared broke a team rule and is not here this spring," Franklin said. "We're hoping that Jared will have a chance to come back. We'll see. It's out of our hands and we'll see how those things play out. But as of right now, we're going on. We're moving on as if he's not here."

The absence of Morse, who started six games and played in all 13 last season, adds to a lack of depth at tackle caused in part by the graduation of Rob Lohr and Colt Nichter.
