Sandi clears 4.45m on first try. Lexi misses, however, she did clear 4.3 on first try. They are in group A which is streaming online if anyone is interested.

Lexi clears 4.45 on 2nd try... looked much more relaxed on that vault.

pork in the whiskers

Sandi over 4.55 on first try. Lexi misses as she was a little short. Several girls have had trouble reaching the bar and have fallen straight back into the box.

Do you have a link for the streaming?

Lexi short in box on 2nd try and never reached bar. Has one last shot.

Damn, she missed and is out of competition... bless her heart, she just never looked comfortable.

Sandi has advanced to the finals. She and 4 others did not have to attempt 4.6, however, several other girls did. There was some arguing with a couple of officials...not sure what was going on.

In group B, Tina Sutej has also advanced to finals along with American trials champ Jen Suhr. So 2 hogs in finals... Coach Compton knows his trade!

The finals are Friday night @ 6:30... Sandi will be jumping 5th and Tina 3rd in field of 10. NBC will have network coverage, as well as, live feed online.

While age and experience don't always count for everything, Lexi is still awfully young. That's especially true when compared to the vast majority of other Olympic entrants in this event. Hopefully she will use this as a great learning and growth experience. Her goal can certainly still be to lead the US team in the Tokyo games of 2020. In the meantime she should enjoy the moment with her family and come back to the Hill ready to vault to even greater heights!

Heart of a champion. This experience will be invaluable to Lexi.  She has a few NCAA championships to win before Gold in Tokyo.
Life is too short for grudges and feuds.

Sandi Morris is one of only 6 remaining vaulters in the pole vault finals. She sits in 5th based on misses. She just needs to clear heights to move up. The big surprise so far is #1 rated and US top qualifier Suhr going out after missing at a relatively low 4.7 meters.

JHicks3636

Morris makes 4.8 on her second try and is now one of five remaining vaulters. However one vaulter passed at 4.8 after missing on her first try and will only have 2 attempts to clear the next height. Morris has moved into 3rd place based on misses.

As stated Morris makes 4.85 on her 2nd attempt. Down to two vaulters trying 4.9 so Morris is guaranteed at least the silver medal. Presently she is 2nd on misses. She just has to clear heights with fewer misses than her remaining competitor to move up to the gold.

I still can't believe that pole fell - had to see in slow motion to see that slightest of touch with her thigh.
Still a great showing by Morris and all the USA women out there tonight.

Great job by Tina, Lexi and Sandi.  Hope we get to see even greater things from them.  That 19 year old from New Zealand taking bronze was pretty impressive though.
