I doubt the real disagreement here is between people who think there will be 2-4 scholarships literally unused and those who believe there will liberally be 13 scholarships distributed.

The interesting consideration is over whether the 11-13 guys in the rotation will be Chance Moores or Lawson Blakes. Or even Joseph Pinions or ...what? Zane Butler/Payton Brown types. The Lawson Blake/Zane Butler/Payton Brown types are happy to be there, can provide stability and lower jealousy in regard to playing time, are good for practice numbers, don't cost anything more in NIL, etc.

Should they get scholarships? Sure, why not?

Quote from: CDBHawg on Today at 09:33:02 amGet the best 13 you can get. Play the best 7-8, maybe 9. Rebuild next year and win games.

Calipari literally said he may only take 8-9 with 10 being the maximum.

Transcript from a podcast with Calipari:

Calipari told Robinson, "You may think I'm crazy."
The Naismith Hall of Famer then said he told his staff that he really only wants "eight or nine guys." NCAA rules allow for men's basketball rosters to include up to 13 scholarship players. Robinson responded by saying he doesn't think Calipari is crazy.

"In this day and age," Robinson said, "you can't keep enough guys happy."
"Yeah, they're leaving anyway," Calipari responded. "And why would I develop a kid for someone else?"

Calipari went into detail on why he felt that way. He said he coached six players while he was at Massachusetts. Injuries and other occurences could bring a theoretical Razorbacks roster with eight or nine players down to a similar-sized rotation.

He also spoke of his hopes for having graduate assistants who have either played professionally in Europe or recently finished their collegiate careers so they can participate in practices. Calipari pointed to women's teams using managers as practice players and said he may want a similar setup.

"We have some walk-ons, we have some GAs, we have eight or nine guys and that's it. And there is a 10th guy, he knows he's the 10th guy."

Not sure why some of you guys wanna debate with those who are just telling you what the man said.

Rush Propst resigned as he faced garnishment, threat of jail over $123,875 in unpaid spousal support

By Ben Thomas |

QuotePropst's surprising resignation as Pell City High's head football coach came the same week his wages were set to be garnished in an ongoing legal matter with his former wife, according to court records.

According to their Feb. 26, 2009 divorce document, Propst was to pay $2,000 per month to Tammy Propst until he dies or until his ex-wife "shall die, remarry or live openly, or cohabit, with a member of the opposite sex."

On April 16, 2024, Jefferson County Circuit Court Judge Thomas E. Thrash Sr. ordered Propst to pay $6,540.50 to Tammy Propst as well as $8,000 in legal fees to the plaintiff's counsel.

The court order also stated Propst owed past due spousal support in the amount of $106,000 "representing no payment whatsoever toward said obligation of 53 months prior to the court filing." With interest included, the total was stated to be $123,875.

Thrash ordered withholding $2,000 per month of Propst's income from his employer, Pell City Schools, immediately.

That order was officially filed into state court records May 3 --- the same day Propst announced his resignation from Pell City.

Propst deferred to his attorneys but did adamantly say the timing of his resignation was not related to the garnishment. Efforts to reach his attorney were not immediately successful.

Heather Fann of Gregory Fann Turner represents Tammy Propst.

She wrote in an email she was only authorized to say her "client wishes no ill will toward Mr. Propst and is merely seeking compliance with existing court orders."

In the April 16 order, the judge threatened to issue a writ of arrest against Rush Propst, ordering him to serve 310 days in jail for contempt of court for failure to pay the spousal support for 53 months.

However, no writ or arrest could be found

The judge wrote that Propst could avoid civil contempt if he paid $35,000. Records do not indicate whether that amount was paid.

A deposition is scheduled for May 14.

It's been an intriguing three weeks for the controversial Propst.

ESPN's Matt Barrie breaks down his SEC pecking order

Paul Harvey |

QuoteMatt Barrie firmly believes Georgia is the clear-cut No. 1 team for the 2024 season.

"Georgia's the runaway No. 1. I would put Texas No. 2... Then I think it's a battle with LSU getting in there and Ole Miss getting in there if you're looking at the pecking order in the SEC," Barrie explained.

Outlook for 2024
Oddsmakers agree with Barrie's initial assessment with Georgia (+190) the favorite to win the SEC at DraftKings and Texas following behind at +320. Ole Miss is third at +700 and Alabama, even under new head coach Kalen DeBoer, rounds out the top 4 at +850.

Setting that pecking order in the SEC also holds bigger than normal ramifications for the outlook for the 12-team College Football Playoff. The SEC champion will be a lock to make the field, but how many teams the conference gets in after that will be something to monitor.

By all measures, the No. 2 team in the SEC — whoever that winds up being —

Friedlander: Transfer portal whiffs leave UNC basketball with a 'big' problem

QuoteBasketball players are always among the biggest men on campus at North Carolina, both in size and stature.

Unfortunately for coach Hubert Davis, there aren't any true big men on campus:

It's not that his 2024-25 team is devoid of height. Junior Jalen Washington is 6-10. Graduate Jae'Lyn Withers and sophomore Zayden High are 6-9. So is incoming freshman James Brown.

The problem is that none of the 4 provide the kind of classic low post presence the Tar Heels need to fill the rebounding and defensive void left by the departure of Armando Bacot.
