60 Minutes of Hell

I've been thinking seriously about buying a kayak for weekly rounds in fairly calm water.  I've always enjoyed getting out on the water, but I've never owned a kayak or canoe.  Does anyone have advice for a first-time buyer?  As of now I'm thinking a used one-seater would be ideal.

I'm also curious how kayaking mixes with back pain.  I occasionally have severe pain in my lower back and have chronic tension in my upper back.  It seems like kayaking could help build core strength to help with both issues... but then again I suppose it could also make things worse.  Anyone have any experience or insight on this?
What a fool I used to be.

Not sure, but I know it will build you're back up quite a bit.

Great hobby.  Hope it works out.  If its just tension and underdevelopment causing your issues, then kayaking could really help.  If you have legitimate structural problems in your back, it will mostly like exacerbate.  Maybe ask your doc...

I have back problems as well but like to lift weights. My doc said to take it slow and do things as a trial and error. The minute you feel discomfort, stop.

The only regret I have concerning my kayak is that I didn't buy it sooner.
