Whitehead served a four-game suspension early in the season for getting into a verbal argument with former secondary coach Charlie Harbison, and even after he came back, he spent two games playing only special teams.

"I got out of place with an adult figure, a coach figure that definitely had the right of way," Whitehead said. "Definitely a million different ways I could have handled the situation, but the way I chose cost me."

The former Tigers quarterback is sticking with his decision to switch to cornerback as he enters the NFL Draft — but he's open to doing whatever role a team asks of him if it means fulfilling his dream of playing on Sundays.

"I'm locked in on defensive back right now," Marshall said Tuesday. "I'm just going to do anything to be on anybody's team; I'm going to do whatever they want me to do."

That includes roles on special teams, being an emergency third-string quarterback and even being utilized as a Wildcat option...

In his NFL mock draft 3.0, released Thursday, Kiper has Dante Fowler Jr. going No. 3 overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars and D.J. Humphries going No. 25 overall to the Carolina Panthers. The latter pick would bring Humphries back to his hometown of Charlotte, N.C.

"Fowler gives you a lot of versatility, he could have a great pro career," Kiper said. "D.J. Humphries, gifted natural athlete, provides huge value going into the NFL."

NFL teams targeting Auburn's Robenson Therezie for specific role http://s.al.com/mHiTmLj

Robenson Therezie played a highly specialized position at Auburn, a hybrid blend between safety and linebacker that sort of transformed into more of a nickel cornerback role as the 2014 season progressed.

For that reason, projecting Therezie's shot at the NFL isn't easy. At 5-foot-9 5/8 inches, he's shorter than most safeties, and his skills don't quite fit as a cornerback.

Therezie's best shot might be to land with a team that uses its nickel near the line of scrimmage, similar to the way he was used at Auburn. As Therezie chases a late-round draft or a shot as an undrafted free agent -- the more likely option -- he's looking to pattern his game after guys who handle that role in the NFL.

"I look at guys like Matt Elam for the Baltimore Ravens, he's a guy with the same stature, same height, same position," Therezie said. "Another guy is Tyrann Mathieu. Pretty much the same height as well."

STARKVILLE -- Three-tenths of a second erased more than 1,500 yards of offense in the Southeastern Conference.

Former Mississippi State running back Josh Robinson ran a 4.7-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine two weeks ago. It ranked 23rd among running backs...

Since the Combine, more has been made about Robinson's 40-yard dash than his second-team All-SEC season last year.

"It's not frustrating because it all comes with it," Robinson said. "But at the same time, I'm a football player. I may not measure up to other guys within the drills, but you put me in pads and I bet I'm just as bad as your favorite player."

Robinson came through when he needed to. With scouts from all 32 teams attending MSU's Pro Day, Robinson ran a 4.61 40. It ranks as 13th best compared to the time posted at the Combine.

"You know why I'm here. To run the 40. That's why I'm here," Robinson said. "It improved and I've pretty much been working on that the whole time. Now I can get back to football. Now I don't have to be a track star."

Robinson was the only MSU player who ran the 40 at the Combine and then again at Pro Day.

He did it to remind scouts that only two running backs in the SEC finished with more rushing and receiving yards than Robinson's 1,573. He led the conference among running backs with 370 yards.

Collins, a second-team All-American and team captain in 2014, won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, the award given to the SEC's top offensive lineman, last season.

In arguably the best college football conference in the country, Collins routinely went up against elite competition, including Florida linebacker Dante Fowler, who is widely considered a top-five pick in the draft this year.

Collins spoke about going up against Fowler last season.

"I feel like I played him as good as anybody. He definitely made me better," Collins said. "When you go back and watch my film against him, he's a top-five pick and I feel like I held my own. If you have any questions about my pass blocking, just go watch my tape against Florida."

Collins' cousin is nine-year NFL veteran and former Dallas Cowboy Marcus Spears [SEC Network].

ud Dupree's stock continues to soar. Two of the latest mock drafts on NFL.com have Dupree going SIXTH to the New York Jets, with another projecting him 13th to New Orleans. SI's latest mock has Dupree going 14th to the Miami Dolphins.

On a conference call on Tuesday, ESPN's Mel Kiper said Bud Dupree's got all the buzz right now, predicting he'll go in the top 16. "He's a hot guy right now," Kiper said.

Collins appeared at a youth football clinic on Wednesday morning in Grant Park but left the field as media arrived for a pre-scheduled interview session.

Schefter said Collins was speaking with authorities in an effort to "clear his name."

Brittany Mills, 29, who was shot and killed April 24, may have had a past relationship with Collins, according to police. Police have said that Collins is not a suspect in her murder.

Mills was pregnant with a child that survived the shooting. Police have not commented on the paternity of the baby.

Baton Rouge police have not publicly named a suspect or motive in the case.

"We're looking to get in touch with Mr. Collins to question him about the (shooting)," Baton Rouge Police Cpl. Don Coppola Jr. said Tuesday. "Again we're not pursuing him as a suspect, but we know he had some type of relationship with Mills. As part of the investigation, we would like to sit down with him, and ask him who may be responsible for this."

Collin's attorney, Jim Boren, told ESPN the timing of the request was unfortunate.

It was a little surprising to see Philon declare early considering he probably won't hear his name called until Saturday as a fourth- or fifth-round pick. But that doesn't mean he won't be successful. He has a quick burst and routinely makes plays in the backfield. He was second on the Razorbacks last year with 4.5 sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss. And he did all that in just his second season playing college football. Once Philon makes an NFL roster, he has plenty of room to grow and develop...
