Statesman can confirm report by @gketch that Texas AD Steve Patterson flying to Richmond, bringing VCU's Shaka Smart to Austin.

Texas officials are hopeful that they can introduce Shaka Smart as new head basketball coach Friday.

Smart has still not said a final yes to Texas as the two sides "work out details." Contract could be as long as six years, source says.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch says Smart's contract says new employer must play VCU in a home-and-home. Or get out of it for $250k.

As he leaves the room, Charlie Strong asks reporters who Texas' new hoops coach will be. Guess he hasn't heard from the AD, either

Strong had a REALLY BIG GRIN on his face when asked about Shaka Smart coming to Texas. They worked together at Florida.

Alabama has expressed interest in Gophers men's basketball coach Richard Pitino, sources with knowledge of the situation told the Star Tribune.

Pitino is heading into the third year of a six-year contract that pays him $1.2 million annually, and he has a buyout of $1.5 million.

Previously, the 32-year-old Pitino worked as an assistant at Louisville — under his father, Rick Pitino — and Florida before taking his first head coaching job at Florida International for the 2012-13 season.

The Gophers started 0-5 in Big Ten play... Pitino is 14-22 in the Big Ten in two seasons with the Gophers...

I would definitely be fine with this.  Obviously no one wanted Marshall to get the Bama job, but I also didn't want to see someone like Prohm at Murray St. or Archie Miller at Dayton get it either- those guys can flat out coach. 

Pitino reminds me a lot of Pelphrey...and in more ways then just him being promoted rapidly due to who he is/knows

Southeast Missouri State hired its new head coach as former Mississippi State head coach Rick Ray will take over, the school announced on Monday. The news was first reported by Gary Parrish of CBSSports.com. Ray replaces former head coach Dickey Nutt, who parted ways with the program after six seasons.

Ray is coming off of a three-year tenure with the Bulldogs in which he finished 37-60 in the league with a 13-41 record in SEC play.

Also a former assistant coach at Clemson, Purdue, Northern Illinois and Indiana State, Ray brings head-coaching experience to the OVC program who hasn't made the NCAA Tournament since 2000 after transitioning from the Division II level.

Green Bay has officially announced that Linc Darner is the new head coach -- replacing Brian Wardle.

Michael Huger is reported to be the new Bowling Green coach.

According to multiple reports there will be one less opening on the coaching carousel, with Bowling Green set to fill its head coaching vacancy.

Michael Huger, currently an assistant on Jim Larrañaga's staff at Miami, is expected to be named the new head coach later this week. Huger is certainly familiar with the Bowling Green program, as he's an alumnus of the school and played for Larrañaga from 1989-93.

Huger will replace Chris Jans, who was fired after one season for his actions at a Bowling Green bar.
