UK is currently visiting the kid that I think will be the next UK Basketball commitment: http://kentuckysportsradio.com/main/slice-is-visiting-isaiah-briscoe-today ...

QuoteSlice Rohrssen ("Glengarry Glen Ross", Pitt Panthers) is in Newark to visit Briscoe at his Roselle Catholic High School, per Adam Zagoria. It's the third time in three weeks Briscoe has met with someone from Kentucky. He hosted Coach Cal for an in-home visit last month and then made a quick official visit to Lexington on September 28, one day after his official visit to UConn.

Jerry Meyer of 247Sports believes it will be the Cats in the end for the No. 1 point guard in 2015. The National Director of Basketball Scouting for 247 changed his pick from St. John's to Kentucky on September 18...

Jaylen Brown: Brown is the #2 overall player in the country according the 247Sports rankings and took an official visit to Lexington for Big Blue Madness. The 6'7'' Small Forward from Georgia is undoubtedly one of the "can't miss" prospects in the 2015 class. While Brown's Crystal Ball predictions currently show the Wildcats in the lead with 39%, Evan Daniels recently said on KSR that he could see Brown staying home to play for Georgia.

QuoteMalik Newman: The #3 player in the 247Sports Composite rankings took in Big Blue Madness alongside UK's other top 2015 targets. Newman has had one of the quietest recruitments of any top player in recent memory. There is simply very little reliable information out there in terms of where he is leaning. However, many "experts" seem to be discussing the growing likelihood of Newman staying home and playing for either Mississippi or Mississippi State. With that being said, Kentucky still holds a commanding 55% of his Crystal Ball predictions.

#Bolt: Elijah Thomas (#39/#28) goes w Texas A&M. Aggies #2 in #247Sports Composite Team Rankings. http://bit.ly/1s3T6Ec

QuoteFour-star big man Elijah Thomas announced his commitment to Texas A&M.

The Aggies made a late surge in the recruitment of Thomas, hosting him on his final visit and securing a commitment from his close friend Admon Gilder soon after the visit.

Thomas, 6-9, 240-pounds from Rockwall (Texas) Lancaster High School, also visited Illinois, LSU, Oklahoma State and SMU. At different times in his recruitment SMU, Illinois and Oklahoma State were all perceived as the leader until Texas A&M took that position at the very end.

Andy Kennedy's recruiting is not bound by state of Mississippi borders, writes @CourtneyRCronin. http://www.clarionledger.com/story/sports/college/ole-miss/2014/10/23/ole-miss-coach-kennedy-will-go-distance-recruit/17817437/ ...

QuoteAndy Kennedy received valuable advice during his first basketball meeting as a freshman at North Carolina State.

"There's no such thing as levels of programs," then-Wolfpack coach Jim Valvano told his team, Kennedy recalled. "There are levels of players."

Kennedy has called his locker room the "United Nations" given the diverse backgrounds. In searching for his next crop of talent, Kennedy doesn't limit himself regionally when recruiting.

State's Ray focuses on nearby recruiting targets

QuoteThere's a lot of work left. You don't have to tell Rick Ray this.

After a 24-41 record in his first two seasons in Starkville, the Mississippi State men's basketball coach is about to learn a lot regarding the direction of his program.

"This year is the first true barometer for where the program is and where we're headed," said Ray, whose Bulldogs were picked to finish last in the Southeastern Conference by league media on Wednesday.

And that includes the program's recruiting efforts.

Ray, a 44-year-old with heavy Midwest ties, has concentrated his staff's recruiting efforts lately on in-state and regional talents.

This year, Ray shouldered a lot of the recruiting responsibilities.

"I want to make sure the kid I'm recruiting knows the head coach is personally involved and invested in his recruitment," he said.

One of the first obstacles Ray faced at Mississippi State was transfers and dismissal of personnel. By being heavily involved in recruiting, Ray hopes to mitigate what he feels is the direct cause for the 500-plus DI players who transferred after the 2013-14 season.

"I always say that it's great for kids to have a relationship with (assistant) coach (Chris) Hollender and (assistant) coach (Wes) Flanigan, but they're not the ones putting you in the game," he said. "I make those decisions so you need to make sure you have a relationship with me."

Four-star guard Chris Clarke commits to Tennessee  http://shar.es/10sQhl  via @knoxnews

QuoteThe 6-foot-5, 170-pound player from Cape Henry Collegiate School in Virginia Beach, Va., picked UT over Connecticut, Virginia Tech and Creighton.

Scouting service 247Sports considers Clarke the No. 1 player in Virginia, the No. 9 shooting guard and the No. 41 overall prospect in the 2015 class. Rivals and ESPN consider Clarke a small forward. They rank him 59th and 63rd overall, respectively.

Dozier decision expected by end of the week http://scne.ws/7PMM9K  #gg

Quote6-6 PJ Dozier of Spring Valley is about to hit the end of the recruiting road.

His father said Sunday afternoon the plan now is to meet with coaches this week and have a decision Saturday. That decision likely will be announced over one of the ESPN outlets Perry Dozier said though details have not been finalized.

Sunday the Doziers were at the Colonial Life Arena, but not for a recruiting visit. They were there to watch PJ's sister Asia play for the USC women in an exhibition game.

Doziers were at Louisville earlier for the FSU game and an exhibition basketball game.

The 6-6 PG is ESPN's #21 overall in the '15 class and Frank Martin is in the mix.

There have been few recruitments odder than Skal Labissiere's.

QuoteThe 2015 big man is originally from Haiti and played at Evangelical Christian School in Memphis last season, and after the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association ruled him ineligible over the summer, he transferred to the Lausanne Collegiate School, also in Memphis. However, because he's still ineligible, he can't play for Lausanne, so he enrolled in the "Reach Your Dream" Prep School, a sketchy prep school founded by Skal's guardian just for him.

The story gets even weirder with the news that Reach Your Dream Prep's game against the Memphis Mustangs tonight has been rescheduled because Skal is sick. Labissiere's guardian Gerald Hamilton called the opposing coach last night to tell him Skal has an upper respiratory illness and wouldn't be able to play, and the opposing coach agreed to postpone the game until Skal's better. Who does that? Even more, Hamilton told the opposing coach that his team was having trouble finding gym time because they have no home gym, and but couldn't play in the Mustangs' gym because it wouldn't be able to accommodate the large crowd Skal would draw. The whole thing just sounds like an NCAA nightmare waiting to happen.

Meanwhile, Labissiere is down to North Carolina, Memphis, Kentucky, Baylor, Georgetown, and Tennessee, and hasn't ruled out announcing during the early signing period, which starts next week. He's considered the 2nd best center in the 2015 class and Memphis and Kentucky are the favorites. The real question is, is he worth the drama?

#LSU basketball hopes to wow recruits with Tiger Stadium excitement http://blogs.theadvocate.com/fullcourtpress/2014/11/06/lsu-basketball-hopes-to-wow-recruits-with-tiger-stadium-excitement/ ...

QuoteLSU men's basketball coaching staff will host several recruits when the 14th-ranked Tigers and fourth-ranked Crimson Tide meet in front of about 100,000 excited fans — or more.

"It's unbelievable, the atmosphere there in Tiger Stadium," said LSU coach Johnny Jones, who will be in the throng Saturday night. "It's like none other. It's the No. 1-rated stadium in the country, and anytime you expose that type of atmosphere (to recruits) some things happen to you.

"It's always important for us to try and get as many recruits on campus as possible, and I think that's throughout all our sports at LSU. That's a huge recruiting tool."

Among those expected to be on campus are Ben Simmons, a 6-foot-8 small forward from Montverde, Florida, who committed to LSU more than a year ago. Simmons is the nation's top-rated player for the Class of 2015...

Big weekend at LSU as JaQuan Lyle, Antonio Blakeney visit http://zagsblog.com/articles/lyle-blakeney-to-visit-lsu/ ...

QuoteJaQuan Lyle and Antonio Blakeney will both visit LSU this weekend, when the SEC school plays Alabama in football on Saturday night.

Both Lyle and Blakeney are former Louisville commits, meaning LSU will have two former Rick Pitino commits on campus, along with 2015 commit Ben Simmons.

The LSU staff will no doubt pitch the idea of playing with the 6-foot-8 Simmons, who is considered a future pro, to the two guards.

Calipari Visits V.J. King on DMV Tour; Kentucky Recruiting Board http://zagsblog.com/articles/calipari-visits-v-j-king-on-dmv-tour-kentucky-recruiting-board ...

QuoteEven as he awaits word on Isaiah Briscoe's decision and courts the stars of the Class of 2015, Kentucky coach John Calipari is actively recruiting for 2016 and '17, too.

On Wednesday, Calipari passed through the DMV to see several players, including 2016 wing V.J. King of Fairfax (VA) Paul VI, 2017 shooting guard D.J. Harvey of Hyattsville (MD) DeMatha Catholic and 2016 combo guard Markelle Fultz of DeMatha. The visits were first reported by Chris Fisher of Catspause.com, and confirmed by the two coaches at the schools.

"Yeah, he came to see the team and to see V.J.," Paul VI coach Glen Farello said by phone, adding that King already holds a Kentucky offer.

"They offered in the summer."

In addition to Calipari, Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim, Florida's Billy Donovan, UConn's Kevin Ollie, Georgetown's John Thompson III and Maryland's Mark Turgeon have been through to see him.

Farello said Calipari also watched 6-foot-8, 250-pound 2016 center Corey Manigault and 6-2 2017 point guard Aaron Thompson.

• Likely to leave in 2015: Karl Anthony-Towns (No. 3, 2015 DraftExpress.com), Willie Cauley-Stein (No. 10), Dakari Johnson (No. 19), Andrew Harrison (No. 26), Aaron Harrison (No. 28), Alex Poythress (No. 32)
• Likely to leave in 2016: Marcus Lee (No. 17, 2016 DraftExpress.com), Devin Booker (No. 19, 2016), Trey Lyles (No. 21, 2016 )
• Short Term Needs: With Towns and Cauley-Stein projected as lottery picks, and Johnson a mid-late 1st rounder, the Center position will be an immediate need. I predict that Steven Zimmerman will end up in Lexington. The Cats are in the mix for numerous big men, including Stephen Zimmerman, Caleb Swanigan, Ivan Rabb, Carlton Bragg and Cheick Diallo but have stiff competition for all of them. Jaylen Brown, the No. 1 player in the Class of 2015, would be an appealing replacement at small forward, but is considering UCLA, Kansas, Michigan, North Carolina and others, too. With the twins' likely departure, the Cats needs a couple of guards in addition to Matthews to slide in and play alongside Ulis and Booker. Newman, Briscoe and Blakeney are all in play, with Briscoe about to announce next week.

• Long Term Needs: With Cal's system of pushing players to the NBA, the Cats will have to recruit for all five positions. The 2016 class looks to be promising with big targets: Thon Maker, Harry Giles, Tyus Battle, Malik Monk, Derryck Thornton, V.J. King and others.

Zagoria has a UK recruiting board including the 2015 and 2016 classes alongside the current 2014 class at the link.

Good stuff from @BenLoveTSD previewing LSU's signing day: http://foxs.pt/1pNHonh

QuoteEvery year a week-long window opens in November for prep basketball prospects to sign in the early period. This time around the autumn opportunity runs from Nov. 12-19.

Here's what we know and what we're hearing on the following six prospects in play for LSU: Ben Simmons, Brandon Sampson, Antonio Blakeney, JaQuan Lyle, Jack McVeigh and Chad Lott...

The first of two native Aussies LSU is heavily involved with in this class, Simmons is the Tigers' only guaranteed signature in the early period. The five-star, rated Scout's No. 2 overall player, is expected to sign Wednesday in a ceremony at Montverde Academy (Fla.) alongside three other teammates, including one-time LSU target Noah Dickerson, who will ink with the Florida Gators. A powerful yet versatile forward, Simmons, who lists himself at 6-foot-10, 235 pounds, is the best high school prospect to land with LSU basketball in at least two decades...
