Kansas State guard Nigel Johnson to transfer

With two players, most notably Marcus Foster, having been dismissed from the program and a third (Jevon Thomas) transferring. Kansas State head coach Bruce Weber already had some departures to deal with this offseason. Wednesday brought about a fourth departure, as 6-foot-1 point guard Nigel Johnson announced by way of his Twitter account that he's decided to leave the program.

Johnson shared time at the point with Thomas, averaging 5.2 points and 1.7 assists in just under 18 minutes of action per contest. The sophomore started seven of the 32 games in which he played in 2014-15, reaching double figures six times with the most notable being his 20-point outing in the Wildcats' win over Kansas February 23.

All four of the dismissals/departures from the Kansas State program this spring have come on the perimeter...

Sophomore point guard Nigel Williams-Goss is transferring out of Washington, according to Clay Dade, a summer basketball figure with connections throughout the sport.

Dade tweeted that Williams-Goss said he already has a release.

Williams-Goss averaged 15.6 points, 5.9 assists and 4.7 rebounds this past season.

He'll be among the nation's top available transfers.

Alabama announces transfer of point guard Ricky Tarrant

In his first season playing for the Alabama basketball program, redshirt junior guard Ricky Tarrant played in 19 games before suffering a season-ending ruptured plantar fascia in his foot in late January. Those 19 games, 13 of which were starts, will be the only games Tarrant plays in an Alabama uniform as it was announced by the school that he's decided to transfer.

Tarrant, who began his college career at Tulane before transferring to Alabama, will have one year of eligibility remaining and there is the possibility that he'll be able to do so as a graduate student. If that's the case, Tarrant would be eligible immediately in 2015-16.

"I met with Ricky on Wednesday and shared with him that we wanted him back next season," new Alabama head coach Avery Johnson said in the release. "We told him it would be competitive but he would have the opportunity and we would help him get better so he can reach his goals. There were no gray areas and everything was crystal clear. He wanted to talk it over with his family and once he did that, he called back and asked us for his release yesterday, which we granted.

"As a new coaching staff, we understand that these things can happen. It is not a bad reflection on Ricky or anyone else. He has to do what's in his best interests and we wish him nothing but the best of luck."

Tarrant averaged 13.1 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game...

Iowa State has hit the transfer market hard the last few seasons and it's paid off with a lot of talented players finishing their careers playing for head coach Fred Hoiberg.

The Cyclones continued that recent trend on Sunday as former Arkansas guard Nick Babb announced that he committed to Iowa State. Babb's older brother, Chris, played for the Cyclones under Hoiberg as well.

San Diego State announces that backup point guard Kevin Zabo is the latest to join the ever-growing transfer list.

Canisius took a big hit to its future plans on Monday as the school announced that sophomore guard Zach Lewis plans on transferring.

The 6-foot-3 Lewis was an All-MAAC third-team selection and he led the team with 12.5 points per game on the season.

While Lewis put up decent numbers across the board, he was a high-volume shooter with poor percentages from the field. Lewis shot 33 percent from the field and 31 percent from 3-point range —

Are we no longer an option for the PG from Washington or Wash St., don't remember which school?  As much as I like Anton Beard, i would like to see us get a ball control, penetrating type PG that can create open shots for teammates and make free throws consistently.

Dreher High star Tevin Mack received a release from Virginia Commonwealth on Tuesday, his mother confirmed. Mack, who committed to the Rams in November, asked for, and was granted, a release after VCU coach Shaka Smart left to coach Texas.

Mack chose VCU over South Carolina, Clemson, Georgia and Connecticut. Those schools could be back in play, and the Longhorns also have been added to the list.

One of Columbia's, and the nation's, top high-school players is back on the market.

"That's mainly one of his options," Paula Mack said of Texas. "He wants to weigh out the rest, to sit down and see what's best for him, where he best fits."

Mack, a 6-foot-6 four-star forward ranked the No. 78 prospect in the country by Rivals.com, is an explosive scorer who led Dreher to the third round of the Class 3A playoffs this year. With the spring signing period beginning Wednesday, he will have until May 20 to find a new home.

Former USC guard and local basketball commentator Carey Rich said Mack will have no shortage of suitors.

"Any time you're 6-6 and you have the ability to shoot the ball from the perimeter, you're a commodity and you add value to any team," Rich said. "That's why several teams have already reached out to Tevin Mack."

Mack recently returned from the Senior Showcase All-Star Game in Orlando, Fla., where he joined some of the country's best talent in a game against Florida's best prep talent. Mack scored six points in the Team USA victory, which was led by MVP and USC signee P.J. Dozier.

Dozier leads a four-man class for the Gamecocks, which includes Chris Silva, Travon Bunch and Jamall Gregory.

Could there be another addition?

"He'll have a plethora of options, and I'm sure that South Carolina will be one of the teams that are vying for his services," Rich said. "Any school would certainly have to be the right fit for both parties."

Mack's mother said that any other choices beside Texas haven't been picked.

UNC Asheville to lose high-scoring lead guard to transfer

Andrew Rowsey announced on Wednesday night that he will be transferring out of the UNC Asheville program.

Rowsey will likely be a sought-after transfer target. The 5-foot-10 lead guard averaged 20.3 points as a freshman in 2013-14, following that up by averaging 19.2 points this past season.

The Lexington, Virginia, native will have two seasons of eligibility remaining, although he will have to sit out the 2015-16 season

What's next for Alabama transfer Devin Mitchell?

A few hours after deciding to transfer from Alabama, Devin Mitchell didn't have any solid offers but he'd already been contacted by an NCAA tournament team.

Georgia State, winners of the past two Sun Belt Conference titles, and one of the feel-good stories of this year's NCAA tournament were the first school to offer the 6-foot-4, 182-pound shooting guard as a 10th-grader at nearby Collins High School.

Mitchell said he was the first player Panthers' coach Ron Hunter offered when he got the job in Atlanta in 2011.

"They know my game. They watched me all throughout high school," Mitchell said. "It's just 30 minutes from my house. So, it's something that I'll be looking at pretty closely."

UAB was in Mitchell's top five among a group of finalists that also included Georgia, Ole Miss, Kansas State Wake Forest and Cincinnati when he committed to Alabama in August 2013.

"I wouldn't mind talking to them again," Mitchell said.

Banned by Alabama from going anywhere in the SEC and prepared to sit out next season under the NCAA's transfer rules...

"The main thing was," Mitchell explained, "I think me and coach Johnson just kind of had a mutual understanding that being here probably wasn't going to be that good of an opportunity for me as far as playing. So, I felt like it was best I look at other options and go from there."

With Ricky Tarrant and Devin Mitchell already having decided to transfer in the aftermath of Alabama's head coaching change, a third player who was considering a possible move will stay.

Forward Shannon Hale, who missed the Crimson Tide's final six games of the season with a foot injury, will return to Tuscaloosa for his junior season according to Michael Casagrande of AL.com. Hale's decision makes him the leading returning scorer for new head coach Avery Johnson, as he averaged 8.2 points and 3.2 rebounds per contest in 2014-15...
