Chuck Person explains why Auburn's run in 2015 SEC Tournament is more impressive than 1985 title http://ow.ly/Klf46

QuoteAuburn's assistant coach was a player when the Tigers won four games in four days to win the SEC Tournament title and secure a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 1985. Auburn, led by coach Sonny Smith, was the first team in SEC history to win four games in as many days.

Still, it's this Auburn team in 2015 that Person believes accomplished more considering the circumstances. Why? Victories against Mississippi State, Texas A&M and LSU in consecutive days pushed the Tigers (15-20) to the semifinals -- and all of it was accomplished after ending the regular season with six straight losses and only four conference wins in Bruce Pearl's first season as the head coach.

"It was a surreal feeling back when I was a player with coach Sonny Smith leading the way and going into Birmingham to win four games in four days to win the championship, but this even surpasses it with the way we finished the season -- not on a good note losing six games to finish the season," Person said Saturday after he and the Tigers were welcomed home by more than 150 fans. "But these guys showed great resolve. That's because of coach Pearl and his vision and philosophy of never quit and always staying together no matter what the adversity -- because it reveals character. It really showed."

Louie Dampier, who played the final three seasons of his professional career with the Spurs, is among 11 members in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame's Class of 2015.

He becomes the sixth Spur to enter the Hall of Fame, following George Gervin, David Robinson, Dennis Rodman, Moses Malone and Dominique Wilkins. A seventh, Cliff Hagan, played with the Dallas Chaparrals, the ABA franchise that would eventually become the Spurs.

Now 70, Dampier appeared in 232 games with the Spurs from 1976-79. His best season in San Antonio came in 1977-78, averaging 9.1 points and 3.5 assists per game as the Spurs won 52 games.

Dampier's greatest success came in the ABA with the Kentucky Colonels, where he was a seven-time All-Star. Best known for his shooting prowess, he averaged a career-high 26 points per game with the Colonels in 1969-70.

He retired in 1979 with professional averages of 15.9 points and 4.9 assists per game in 960 games. Before that, Dampier helped the University of Kentucky...

After just 48 games. RT @espn_macmahon: Do you expect Rajon Rondo to ever wear a Mavericks uniform again? "No, I don't," Rick Carlisle said.

Rajon Rondo hasn't exactly gotten along w/Tubby Smith, Doc Rivers and now Rick Carlisle. I sense a pattern.

Michael White becomes the first player that could be named to his school's (Ole Miss) Top 13 players since Arkansas joined the SEC and went on to coach at another SEC school.

QuoteA key figure in the recruiting arena, White has helped Ole Miss haul in some of the best signing classes in program history during his tenure. The incoming class in his first season back was ranked as high as third in college basketball by recruiting publications, while two recent classes have both been rated top 25 in the country.

Working with the Rebel backcourt, he helped Terrico White adjust to the starting point guard role en route to 2009 SEC Freshman of the Year and Freshman All-America accolades. He has also tutored All-SEC guards Clarence Sanders, Todd Abernethy, David Huertas, and most recently, Chris Warren.

A four-year starter at the point himself, Michael White helped captain the Rebels to national prominence in the late 1990s and returned to the program as an assistant coach on June 16, 2004. Playing for the Rebels from 1995-99, he entered the starting lineup in the eighth game of his freshman season and missed only one start at the point the remainder of his four years in Oxford.

Over that span, the 6-foot-1, 180-pound floor general helped guide Ole Miss to one of the most successful stints in the program's history, earning consecutive SEC Western Division titles, three straight NCAA Tournament berths and the Rebels' first ever Tournament win in 1999.

White led the squad in assists all four years and ranks sixth in school history with 370 career dimes. He was a two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection and a member of the 1999 SEC Good Works Team.

How many former Cats have NBA rings? Some on here I had forgotten: http://kentuckysportsradio.com/nba-cats/meet-the-wildcats-with-nba-championships/ ...

QuotePat Riley
As a player: Los Angeles Lakers (1972)
As a head coach: Los Angeles Lakers (1982, 1985, 1987, 1988); Miami Heat (2006)
As an assistant: Los Angeles Lakers (1980)
As an executive: Miami Heat (2012, 2013)

Without question the most decorated NBA champion to come out of Kentucky, Pat Riley is one ring shy of a full hand.

Frank Ramsey
Boston Celtics (1957, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964)

The Wildcat with the most rings as a player, Frank Ramsey was a member of the Boston Celtics during the early part of the Celtics' dynasty that took 11 of 13 NBA Championships in the 50s and 60s...

Former Kentucky Wildcats with rings who played against Arkansas:
QuoteRick Robey
Boston Celtics (1981)

Tayshaun Prince
Detroit Pistons (2004)

Nazr Mohammed
San Antonio Spurs (2005)

Antoine Walker and Derek Anderson
Miami Heat (2006)

Rondo
Boston Celtics (2008)
