Burks was rated 105 in his class out of high school. Late addition at KY when he switched from UCF {??} to KY. At KY he was behind Edwards and Thiero. At AR he would be behind Thiero and perhaps Richmond and Knox. Very gracious in his departure comments to KY. Class guy. He will do well at Georgetown.

Brian Kelly has a long history of not caring which way the wind blows.

I don't think he is lying about them having money, so I am not sure what he lied about.  Regardless, there are only a handful of programs in a situation where they can be highly selective with who and how much they offer NIL.  Even those programs will find themselves in situations where they have to pony up to get the QB that they want or lose him to a rival.  If a QB is rated as high as Manning was when he came out of H.S. and that QB is down to LSU, Alabama, or A&M, Kelly will scramble as fast as he can to come up with the matching price if that will land the star player.  Losing to those schools will not go well with fans if the difference was a couple of hundred grand to "buy" the player.  Will be even worse if that QB beats them two years later.

Imagine this, there are people now who have no idea what that is called, and who it involves.

Quote from: bphi11ips on Today at 02:47:25 pmMaybe he was used just as he will be if he plays in the NBA.  That's been the pat response since the beginning of last season from you and Erie.  But that's not the question.

If Brazile weren't viewed as a threat from 3, he wouldn't have been projected as a draft pick.  The question is whether he could have maintained his position or improved it with an all-out effort to improve areas of his game that would make him a more complete player.  Creating on close-outs is one of those areas.  It was his passiveness on offense as a whole that cost him as much as anything else, and many here have suggested that.

Maybe Brazile's knee and then his ankle were a big reason we didn't see him contribute more, but the question is whether a player projected for the draft is better suited to use college as an audition or to improve as a player as a whole.

Gafford improved at Arkansas overall and gave maximum effort.  The charging rule may have changed, but taking charges is a good example of Gafford using his skill at the time to impact the game.  He just wanted to win.

Players move up and down the draft board based on productivity even if they are also drafted based on potential.

Sometimes I think you just want to type. And this is one of those times. Because I don't even know what your point is. If you work on things that will make you an NBA prospect that's going to make you a more complete player.

No one was questioning Brazile's motor prior to his ankle tweak. Remember when he pulled down like twenty boards in a double OT stanford game? He got in his head post injury and the team surrounding him was just not that good. Everything that could go wrong did.

Gafford really didn't improve at much of anything at Arkansas. He certainly did not become a more complete player. His per possession stats really didn't change. Gafford did not draw charges. Are you confusing him with Jaylin Williams?

What is more likely?

1) Nate is not good at his job of teaching college players to hit at an elite level

Or

2) 5+ guys that have been hitting prior to Nate, all at same time just sunk to career lows?

Whatever Nate's teaching method is doesn't work for the group. Maybe it does for a guy that already has MLB eye and pitch recognition. But for the everyday college hitter, his offenses have been gross. I hope DVH sends him somewhere else so we can get guys in the box that don't give away at bats all the time.

Quote from: AHiD on April 25, 2024, 01:28:53 pmHe significantly improved year 1 to 2, would need to go back and check exactly how much

BP went 9 for 33 from deep as a freshman, 14 for 30 as a soph. That's a pretty nice % increase; I would argue Mike should have had him take more threes.

Quote from: donnie on Today at 11:59:25 amBrazile was utilized exactly as he'd be utilized in the NBA. He just didn't get it done. Some of that is him. Some of that is the pieces around him.

Working on skills happens in the offseason. Coaches aren't going to let a big shoot 3s because that's what they need to do at the next level if the player hasn't put the work in to become a threat from 3.
